Managed Pressure Drilling by Weatherford

Manage pressure drilling (MPD) provides an active approach to well control. Unlike passive
control methods, MPD operations use a closed-loop system that helps to determine the
downhole pressure limit and manage the annular pressure profile accordingly. As a result,
you can enhance primary well control, verify downhole barriers in real time, and even
automatically react to influxes and losses.
Advantages :
• Reduce NPT
• Reduce risk of stuck pipe
• Real-Time measurement and analysis of flow and pressure data
Features :
• Minimization of kick and mud loss
• Reduce ECD
• Navigate narrow mud weight windows
• Reduce Formation Damage
• Early kick and loss detection
• Improved hole stability
Emergency Disconnect Sequence
In a case where a DP rig has lost station keeping ability, the EDS is a one button system that
allows the wellbore to be secured by closing the shear rams. The hydraulic functions to the
lower BOP are then vented and the LMRP is separated from the lower BOP by unlatching the
connector. An over‐pull is preset on the riser tensioners and the LMRP lifts from the lower
BOP . A riser recoil system prevents a sling shot effect. After the EDS button is activated, the
sequence takes about 55 seconds maximum.
Mark IV Subsea MUX BOP Control System
The Mark IV high-availability subsea BOP control system – featuring an industry-first three-
POD design – improves operational availability of the drilling system through redundancy
and improves reliability through simplified POD design. Conventional subsea BOP control
systems use a two-POD design, providing a single spare if the primary control POD becomes
unavailable. The Mark IV-HA control system system’s third POD provides additional
redundancy, which eliminates the need to pull the stack if one POD fails. It can also improve
the subsea control system’s availability to as much as 98%, and reduce the likelihood of a
POD-related stack pull by up to 73%. The Mark IV-HA control system simplified design
increased reliability and functionality in a smaller footprint. Designed with 50% fewer tubing
connections, the potential for leak paths is reduced, and the addition of redundant solenoid
pilot regulators means they are no longer a single point of failure within the POD. Each POD
has 33% more available functions to accommodate eight-cavity stacks. The new POD is also
designed with pressure-compensated pilot accumulators that adjust automatically for water
depth. This feature prevents the chance of human failure and reduces maintenance costs. The
Mark IV-HA control system is 26% smaller than its predecessor, and weighs one-third less
than competitors’ control PODs.
Advantages :
•Three-POD option, each with 160 functions to accommodate eight-cavity stacks
•Reduction of 50% in internal tubing to reduce leak paths
•Sub-plate-mounted valves for improved reliability
•Tungsten carbide seals on small valves for improved reliability
•Pressure-compensated regulator pilot accumulators that automatically adjust
•Dimensions: 46 in × 49 in × 14.5 in
•Weight: 23,000 lbm
•Compliance with API 16D/53, DNV Drill, and ABS CDS requirements
Automated Drill Pipe Handling AR3200 –Automated Iron Roughneck
The AR3200 adds value to any rig's operation by improving crew safety, by ensuring
protection to drill pipe threads, and by providing reliable make-up torque to drilling
connections. The operation is controlled from Driller Control Room (DCR).
Advantages :
 Gateless torque wrench
 Unparalleled make-up repeatability
 Spinning wrench automatically counter-rotates to seat threads, then safely spins-in
 Economy of rig floor space- no hanging tools
 Enhances crew safety- hands off pipe
