Learning Activity 5

Mariel L. Efren BSED ENGLISH IV-B

1. The line of the poem that I liked the most was “For our knowledge is
imperfect , and our teaching is imperfect, and we are always looking for
the better ways which an infinite GOD has placed ahead of us.” I really
like this line because , it only shows that we are always doing our best to
make our plans great but we can’t always deny the fact that even
though we are admitting in our part that we’re doing our very best but it
seems that our best is not good enough (sounds like the lyrics of a
particular song 😊) but we’re still working on it because we have our
goals and we love what we are doing. If ever that we’re thinking that we
can’t control things the way that we want it to be, we just need to trust
God because GOD IS IN CONTROL. God’s plan is always the best , we just
need to trust and believe in HIM because HE sees our hearts and HE
knows the desire that we have inside. “The ultimate ground of faith and
knowledge is confidence in God” according to Charles Hodge.
2. The mental portrait of the teacher in the classroom and the teacher in
the community that is painted by the poem, “You are a Teacher” only
tells us that if we want to become an effective teacher, we should teach
not only by the mind but by the heart. The specific mental portrait that
the poem is trying to paint is, teachers are like our mothers . It’s like you
are treating your students patiently and unconditionally.
3. I felt nostalgic like every line in the poem reminds me of me and my
mother, when my mom was teaching me to take my first baby’s step.
Learning back then, though care free and sometimes careless was
genuine, kind and full of compassion. It was the best days of my learning
in the arms of my loving mom. I never once felt shy, afraid and alone.
She was always there by my side helping, guiding and teaching me every
step of the way.
4. This is how one describes professionalism:
“You have to perform at a consistently higher level than others. That’s
the mark of a true professional. Professionalism has nothing to do with
getting paid for your services.” State professionalism in a sentence by
stating one concrete act of professionalism.
e.g. Professionalism is doing my work to the best of my ability even
when nobody is looking.

Answer :
“Professionalism is like keeping your promise to them even if they
haven’t keep theirs.”
5. Teacher A claims she cares for students? Which is/are a manifestation of
genuine care? Why ? Explain your answer.

I. Knows students
II. Creates a favorable learning atmosphere
III. Maintains professional distance with students
The Roman Numeral I is a manifestation of genuine care because let’s just try
to think of it, we can easily cope up the things that our students were needed
if we really know our students on the first place. Roman Numeral III, which
maintains professional distance with students is also a manifestation of
genuine care because teachers itself are aware that they should know where
they stand so as their students. They can show rapport to their students but
they should know their limitations. You can be friend with them, you can even
help them in any aspect of their school concerns but not to the extent that you
will have this intimate relationship which drives you to become unpleasant in
the eyes of your other students. According to what I’ve said earlier, as a
teacher you should always put a wall/barrier to your students in terms of their
personal needs or concerns (optional :maybe, it’s hard for them to participate
in class because they’re hungry or they need money to buy for their foods)
however, always see to it that you are always willing to help when it comes to
theirschool concerns. Roman Numeral III is a manifestation of genuine care
among all because by only creating a favorable learning atmosphere or what
we call “conducive learning environment” really tells it all, that you care for
your students because you want them to learn without any distractions and in
a state of maintaining a positive classroom culture and exchanging of ideas. In
this way, the learners would feel relaxed, respected, trusted, accepted and
safe because of this conducive environment.
