Chapter 5: Ethics as Organizational Culture

I. INTRODUCTION

“You will never consider a work as a burden if you're really loved what

you're doing”.

Yes. It is really important that you love and you are passionate of your

work. It is one of the reasons that you can stay in a company. Still, what

makes you stay in the company, not just because you are passionate of your

work, is also because of the environment. How the company treats its

employees and what is their culture? Is it doing a good deed or the company is

only focusing on gaining profits?

II. BODY

I've been with Kcube Incorporated for almost 4 years and up until now,

despite the pandemic, I become an on-call employee. Though the company

didn't pay me a high salary, I stayed with them. Why? It is because of the

people who make up the company.

The company has two brands namely: Worship Generation and Getblued.

Worship Generation sells Christian merchandise which promotes words of the

Lord, with its tagline: “Making Worship a Lifestyle”. We, as employees are

expected or assumed by mostly of our customers as Christians. With this view,

we are encouraged to do good deeds since we are bringing the brand name.
Also it makes our job satisfying because we consider ourselves as an

instrument that can help spread the word of the Lord. One main reason I

stayed in the company was because of the past situation I'm in.

After I graduated in college, I had a hard time finding a job. After months

of not finding a job, I ended up enrolling Professional Education. When I waited

for my board exams, I find myself hunting for a job and in turn, I failed again.

Review session comes and I needed funds for my review that I tried to find job

again and here comes Kcube Incorporated. I got the job.

During my first month working in the company, reviews are coming and

my problem is taking review classes without sacrificing my work and vice

versa. I was not ready to resign in the company because I needed fund for my

review. My last resort was to ask my boss and compromise.

When my boss knew my situation, he travelled from Quezon City, which

is our main office, to Cagayan de Oro to see me personally and ask me my

goals. I told him that my original plan was to resign when I pass my board

exam but before that, I need to attend review classes every Saturday and

Sunday. Though the end decision was not to their advantage, my boss still

considers and made a decision to support me. It was not easy, for weekends

have the highest foot traffic inside the mall. But my boss supported me and he

told my managers that I will not be disturb every Saturday and Sunday. They

also offer prayers, not just to the customers but also to the employees in which

I am included. With that support, I strived hard in my studies and ended up

passing the board exam.

III. CONCLUSION

When the company also thinks about the welfare of the employees, the

employees will really try to give back the treatment that the company deserves.

I may find the salary low, but the treatment and the culture of the company is

what make me stay. I became what I am today because the company is part of

it.
