Change template button - allows you to change the template of the publication page; Built-in Template
window will be displayed for you to choose the template that you want to apply in your publication

Scheme group - used to apply colors to you select to publication elements in a consistent way

Click More down arrow - to display this Color

Create New Color Scheme - opens the


“Create New Color Scheme” dialog box.

Within the “Create New Color Scheme” dialog box,

1. click the color drop-down button next to each color cube for
each category shown in the “Scheme colors” section to select a
color for those publication elements.

2. Then enter a name for your custom color scheme into the
“Color scheme name:” text box. Then click the “Save” button
to save your custom color scheme.
Font task pane - opens when you click the Font down arrow
in Page Design tab

Page Background group - allows you to apply background to the


publication page

Three buttons in Page Background group:


1. Apply the image
2. Background down arrow
3. Master pages

Lesson 7 - Create Décor for a Room

Insert tab - used to add shapes, page, table, clipart, pictures, placeholder, text box, and others

Groups in the Insert tab:


1. Pages 2. Tables 3.Illustrations 4. Building blocks
5. Text 6. Links 7. Header and Footer
Text box - is a frame where you can type and insert text

Draw Text box - button in the Text group that is used to make a text box

Cross hair +- is the mouse pointer change after clicking the Draw Text Box button; click anywhere on
the publication and drag to create a text box.

Contextual tab - appears as additional tab in the Ribbon when you insert anything in Publisher 2010;
provides you with different ways to format

Ways to draw text box:


1. Click Home tab, Objects group, and then click Draw Text box
2. Click Insert tab, Text group, and then click Draw Text box

Formatting Text - changes its style and appearance; but it is a must to highlight or select first the text

Text box Format tab - appears when there is selected text on the publication page

Esc - used to cancel or to close the open dialog box without the execution of the command
OK - button to be clicked in a dialog box to execute the command
Groups in Home tab:
1. Clipboard 3. Paragraph 5. Objects 7. Editing
2. Font 4. Styles 6. Arrange

Dialog box launcher - button to be clicked at the rightmost part of the group name
to display the dialog box
Ways to select or highlight the text inside the text box:
1. Click and drag the mouse - click at the start of the text inside the textbox and drag the mouse to
the end of the text that you want to be selected
2. Double-click a word - to select or highlight the word to be modified in the text box
3. Triple-click the word - to select the whole sentence or a paragraph inside the text box
4. Shift-click technique - click at the start of the selection, scroll to the end of the text to
be selected, hold down the Shift key and then click; used to select continuously
5. Home tab, Editing group, Select down arrow and then “Select all text in the textbox” - to
select the whole text inside the text box
Four-headed arrow - is the change of mouse pointer if you will move the text box
Note: Click anywhere on the publication area to deselect the selected text box
Ctrl + Shift + F – used to activate the Font box
Font- is a specific typeface of a certain size and style
Font size - makes the selected text bigger or smaller
Font color - applies the color to the selected text to enhance the publication overall look
Font color down arrow - displays the color palette that you can apply to the selected text
More Colors option - opens the Colors dialog box
Font style - determines the emphasis given to a character
1. Bold 3. Italic 5. Bold Italic
2. Underline 4. Regular
Font dialog box - used to apply different formatting of the selected text
Ways to display the Font dialog box:
1. Click Home tab, click the Font dialog box launcher
2. Right click the selected text, select Change text and then Font…
3. Ctrl + D
4. Click Typography dialog box launcher
Insertion point - is a blinking symbol that appears when typing a text
Effects options - allow the adding of special effects to the selected text
1. Strikethrough 2. Double strikethrough 9. Small caps
3. Superscript 4. Subscript 10. All caps
5. Shadow 6. Emboss 11. Hidden
7. Outline 8. Engrave
Alignment button - determines the appearance and orientation of the paragraph edges

1. Align left = default alignment when the Word opens, aligns the left margin of the document
2. Align right = text begins on the right edges as one type and each new letter pushes the

other to the left; aligns the right margin of the document

3. Justify = adds a little extra space between the words in each line so that every line of the

text begins and ends on the same place on the right and left

4. Center = centers the text between the margins or the column boundaries

Typography commands that can be applied to the text:


1. Drop cap - when the first letter of a paragraph is enlarge to “drop” down two or more lines

2. Ligatures - connect certain combinations of letters to make them easier to read

3. Stylistic alternates - offers alternate versions of specific letters such as g

4. Swash - embellish capital letter

5. Stylistic sets - let you choose between various embellishments for your fonts

6. Number style - provides different styles for number spacing and alignment

There are six Publisher typography commands:


1. Drop Cap, which enlarges the first letter of the
selected text

2. Number Style - which lets you choose between four different styles for
number spacing and alignment
3. Ligatures - which connect certain combinations of letters to make them easier to read

4. Stylistic Sets - this let you choose between


various embellishments for your fonts usually in the form of
exaggerated serifs or flourishes

5. Stylistic Alternates - which offer alternate versions


of specific letters such as g

6. Swash - which embellishes capital letters

Keyboard combination keys to execute the commands:

Ctrl +] - increases the font size by 1 point


Ctrl + [ - decreases the font size by 1 point
Ctrl + L - to align the text left
Ctrl + R - to align the text right
Ctrl + J - to make the alignment justified
Ctrl +E - to make the text centered
Ctrl + Shift + F - activates the Font down arrow
Ctrl + D - opens the dialog box
Ctrl + B - to make the text bold
Ctrl + U - to make the text underline
Ctrl + I - to make the text italic
Ctrl + A - to select all the text
Ctrl + Shift + L - applies the bullets in the text box
Ctrl + Alt + L - applies the numbering

How to insert shapes?


1. Click Insert tab, Illustrations group, and then click Shapes down Arrow
2. Click the shape that you want to insert; the mouse pointer changes to thin
cross (cross hair)
3. Click inside the publication page to create the shape.
Resize handles - white circles in the text box or image that are used to expand and
contract the text box
Rotate handle - the green circle on top of the text box or image that is used to rotate
or flip
