Moral values are the standards of good and evil, which govern an individual’s behavior and choices.

Individual’s morals may derive from society and government, religion, or self. People generally apply
moral values to justify decisions, intentions and actions, and it also defines the personal character of a
person. An individual with high moral values typically displays characteristics of integrity, courage,
respect, fairness, honesty and compassion.

Moral values refer to a set of principles that guide an individual on how to evaluate right versus wrong.

SOURCES OF MORAL VALUES: Religion Science Law Culture

1.Religion: Religion is the greatest source of values. Religion also teaches us how to behave and acts as a
unconscious policing action. For example, Sikhism religion teaches that they should cover their head
before praying to whom they worship and not eating meat.

8. SOURCES OF MORAL VALUES……. 2. Science- An another source of values. Actually science’s main
objective is to prove certain facts, phenomenon’s and other things right or wrong. For example, it is
scientifically proven that working yourself too hard can lead to health problems.

9. SOURCES OF MORAL VALUES……. 3.Culture - •Culture refers to a set of values, rules & standards
transmitted among generations & acted upon to produce behaviors that fall within acceptable limits.
•These rules & standards always play an important part in determining values. •For example, its good to
give place to elder one.

10. 4. Laws - Laws are rules of conduct, approved by legislatures that guide human behavior in any
society. They codify ethical expectations & keep changing when new evils emerge. But laws cannot
cover all ethical expectations of society. For example, law forbids snatching SOURCES OF MORAL
VALUES…….

The Six (6) Core Moral Values:

1. LOVE OF GOD
– give God what is due Him and develop the moral virtue of religion
through adoration, prayer and obedience.
2. RESPECT OF AUTHORITY
– treat freedom with a sense of self-determination and
personal responsibility, and as a social being, exercise intelligently obedience.
3. SELFLESS LOVE OF PEOPLE
– respect human life, respect the
human body, learn to give, to give oneself, and to love.
4. Respect for the Dignity of Human Sexuality– respect the dignity of
human sexuality by practicing
chastity in marriage through sexual love that is romantic,
procreative, exclusive and lasting, or if unmarried, by having no
experience of sexual pleasure.
5. RESPONSIBLE DOMINION OVER MATERIAL THINGS
-
should not be dominated by it (detachment) and should share it with his
fellowmen bearing in mind that the material world is limited (scarce).

6. TRUTHFULNESS
– never telling what is not true (untruth)
because it destroys the foundation of social life which is based on
mutual trust.

Becoming a better person in our work and through our work, means striving hard to always practice the
six core moral values in all aspects of our working life and likewise, in all aspects of our entire life.
