movies under the Horror category. How could you say

medias are called The Media and Information

Media and Information Languages or Media

Languages are codes, conventions, formats, symbols
and narrative structures that indicate the meaning of
media messages to an audience. Just like our example
a while ago, a horror movie, how did you know that it It is because of the horror representations like the
was a horror movie? blood or the monsters.

Very good! This is the language of the movie poster to

show that the movie is a horror. Media uses these
kinds of languages to convey messages to the
audiences. One of the languages that Media uses is
Codes. What are codes? Class do you have any idea
about what codes are?

Ok! Codes are system of signs that when put together,

create meaning. So in here, we are talking about signs
that convey meanings. Class can you give me any
signs that conveys meaning? None sir

Excellent! There are different kinds of codes used in

Media. We have three kinds of codes. The thumbs-up sign symbolizes “Ok” or
1. Symbolic Codes “Affirmative”.
2. Written Codes The color red represents Love or Romance.
3. Technical Codes

Let’s talk about the Symbolic Codes. Symbolic codes

are symbols that convey meanings.
