1 always rough out the stock at a slow speed. remove square corners on the bandsaw

2 no spectators

3 as the woods diameter decreases, move the tool rest closer to the work

4 always move the tool rest when sanding

5 never touch the work with your bare hands when it is in motion

6 hold the tools firmly with both hands

7 never wear loose clothing, jewelry, and/or long hair when turning

8 always keep the tools sharp. When they become dull ask the instructor to sharpen them,

9 use the right tool for the right job

10 before turning on the machine, always spin the work by hand to make sure it clears the tool

11 before turning on the lathe, make sure spindle turnings are secure between centers

12 when face plate turning, periodically, check the screws to make sure they are secure.
