History of Rajasthan
● The state was formed on 30 March 1949 when Rajputana -
the name adopted by the British Raj for its dependencies in
the region.
● Modern Rajasthan includes most of Rajputana, which
comprises the erstwhile nineteen princely states, two
chiefships, and the British district of Ajmer-Merwara.
● Heera Lal Shastri served as the first Chief Minister of
Rajasthan.
Geography
● It is the largest Indian state by area and the seventh largest by
population.
● The geographic features of Rajasthan are the Thar Desert and the Aravalli
Range.
● Mount Abu lies at the southwestern end of the range, separated from the
main ranges by the West Banas River.
● The legislative assembly election in the Indian state of Rajasthan was held on
7 December 2018 to elect members of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.
● Indian National Congress became the single largest party.
● After securing majority in 2018 assembly election, Ashok Gehlot of the
Indian National Congress assumed office on 17 December 2018.

General Facts
● Vasundhara Raje Scindia of the Bharatiya Janata Party is only female to serve as the
chief minister of the state.
● Rajasthan is home to three national tiger reserves, the Ranthambore National Park in
Sawai Madhopur, Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar and Mukundra Hill Tiger Reserve
in Kota.
● The Dhosi Hill located in the district of Jhunjunu, known as 'Chayvan Rishi's
Ashram', where 'Chyawanprash' was formulated for the first time, has unique and
rare herbs growing.
● The Indira Gandhi Canal irrigates northwestern Rajasthan. The Indira Gandhi Canal is
the longest canal of India . It starts from the Harike Barrage at Harike, a few
kilometers below the confluence of the Satluj and Beas rivers in the Indian state of
Punjab and terminates in irrigation facilities in the Thar Desert in the north west of
Rajasthan state.
