I. FACTS OF THE CASE

Sundaram-Clayton

- Manufacturer of air-brake systems and castings

- The only company in India who has won international recognition which is the Deming Prize
(instituted 40 years ago to honor W. Edwards Deming. for Companies and has emerged the
flag bearer of global class.

- Sundaram-Clayton integrated Deming’s 10 parameters into the four steams of its quality
practices, namely: policies, people, processes and products. It’s TQM models ensures total
employee involvement, policy deployment, standardization, training and promoting
employer-employee relationship

- November 14, 1998. It’s CEO has become known that in the age of 45, he was able to bring
the torch of quality

- Belongs to the exclusively small global elite with the likes of Florida Power and Light, AT & T
Power systems and Philips Taiwan

V. RECOMMENDATION

Sundaram-Clayton should always aim for total quality management. It is not a guarantee that if
you have been an awardee, you will get laxed and would not think of a potential player that may
come along. It is but of importance to always align to the company’s vision and mission of
quality in order to maintain its current standing.
VI. DESCRIPTION OF THE FUTURE STATE

Company succession plan is always a positive thing. If this is being implemented properly then
we will be able to avoid circumstances of certain problems. The Successors must be able to train
well from their predecessor in order live up to the legacy that the company has established
through the years…
