All four characteristic of successful entrepreneurs i.e.

passion for business, product/consumer

focus, tenacity dispute failure and execution intelligence were found in Jason Jacobs and all

these factors led to the success of his company.

Jason Jacobs was very passionate about his business and dedicated his full time towards it by

quitting his job. Initially he planned on making only a website where he could help runners keep

track of their progress but along the way he polished his idea and decided to go with an app too.

He was fully eager to influence people’s lives in a positive way by providing them a simple and

single platform to keep track of their running activity. He successfully added all the features that

customer wanted and needed to keep themselves motivated to workout.

Jacobs was keen on providing the best features to his customers. For him, best way to build

RunKeeper was through by creating an exemplary user experience. Execution of the product

played a key role in the success of his company, Jacobs had saved up a tidy sum of money and

was able to manage them in a well manner for example he could have hired expensive web

developers, but he went for employees for asked for much less money. He also hired a team of 5

people who met weekly for development of the app. In the end Jason Jacobs was able launched

this app in short period of time. He placed execution of his product before promotion, though he

promoted his product when possible but he did turn down many promotional opportunities.

Jacobs still believes that he only has scratched the surface of running and wishes to work on it

more before he add other features on his app such as climbing and swimming which show how

much product centered he is.

Lastly, though Jacob didn’t face any sort of failure on his business venture, but after reading this

case study it is quite clear he did hold the quality of tenacity. There were many doubters along

the way, but he remained steadfast and believed in his idea which in the end lead to the success

of his business idea.
