EXPLANATION
This self-monitoring activity is designed to include students
in the process of assessing their own learning. This helps
both the student and the teacher to understand and
communicate with each other to monitor the student’s level
of mastery. This is ideal for any grade level and for all
students.

Simply cut out and laminate the circles, attach them with a
brad in the center, and stick them on the student’s desks in
the corner. During lessons, have cues so that students know
to show their level of learning with one of the faces on the
spinner. Walk around the room and notice who feels
confident and who is struggling. This is a perfect way to
formatively assess your students and get feedback from
them in a quick, easy, honest way. If all the students have
them, it also doesn’t single anyone out or make it look like it
was meant for certain students.
