Assessment Title Gender and Diversity Issues in Epistemology (Presentations)

A. Introduction/ Situation/ Background Information


Epistemology is that branch of philosophy which is concerned with issues about the nature and
extent of what we know, as well as with related problems about what we should believe. This
assessment introduces a nature, values, sources and limits of knowledge which will develop
healthy self-confidence among students before entering the bitter and competitive social world.
Epistemology allows students to think ontologically and epistemologically. In current
assessment, students able to distinguish between belief, prejudice, and ideology, that will help
them in the field of education, law and social work profession.
B. Course Learning Outcomes (CLO) covered
At the end of this assessment, students are able to:

CLO 1 Understand the nature, values, sources and the limits of knowledge.

C. University Policy on Academic Misconduct

1. Academic misconduct is a serious offense in Xiamen University Malaysia. It can be defined


as any of the following:
i. Plagiarism is submitting or presenting someone else’s work, words, ideas, data or
information as your own intentionally or unintentionally. This includes incorporating
published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form
into your work without acknowledging the source (the person and the work).

ii. Collusion is two or more people collaborating on a piece of work (in part or whole)
which is intended to be wholly individual and passed it off as own individual work.
iii. Cheating is an act of dishonesty or fraud in order to gain an unfair advantage in an
assessment. This includes using or attempting to use, or assisting another to use materials
that are prohibited or inappropriate, commissioning work from a third party, falsifying
data, or breaching any examination rules.

2. All the assessment submitted must be the outcome of the student. Any form of academic
misconduct is a serious offense which will be penalised by being given a zero mark for the
entire assessment in question or part of the assessment in question. If there is more than one
guilty party as in the case of collusion, both you and your collusion partner(s) will be
subjected to the same penalty.

D. Instruction to Students
Followings instructions are given below
1. There will be maximum five (5) members in each group. The groups will be formed by
students and the student list will be provided inside the Moodle. Student can make a
group less than five members or present individually if needed. The student list for this
subject is not yet complete so, they may be change of maximum limit of student in each
group depend upon total strength.
2. It is mandatory to assign any name to group (i.e. Three wise man, Quarantine, Scorpio)
for better organization and convenient to mark.
1. Student will decide their group leader for their respective group. If your group is not
comfortable with the performance of any member/participants, then the group leader
contacts me and I can give some advice (aslam.shahzad@xmu.edu.my).
2. The group leader in consultation with lecturer and other members may expel the group
member through email with given a valid reason given to student and then the lecturer
will decide further action for that student. This make a fair environment.

3. It is Mandatory to submit the soft copy of your presentation slides in (.ppt) format, along
with the cover page and marking rubric through Microsoft OneDrive ONLY.

4. The group leader will submit the presentation slides and presentation video via Microsoft
OneDrive ONLY. It is not mandatory for other members to submit their presentation.
5. If student face difficulty to upload the video and presentation on Microsoft OneDrive
then student can upload on Microsoft team.
6. A Screenshot on how to upload video and Presentation in Microsoft One Drive has given
inside moodle.
7. Submission of presentation video and slides is prohibited through email due to large
number of student inside the class.
8. The deadline for submission of video and presentation is 15th March 2021.

F. Task(s)
1. Each member needs to record their video using any software (i.e Screen recorder, zoom
or microsoft team) that consist of duration (5-10 Minutes). The video will then compile
together of all members recording and the length of total video consist of 50-60 minutes.
Student can record the presentation video using any method (i.e recording individually or
recording together).
2. You are required to follow the marking rubric to prepare the slides.
3. Plagiarism is not allowed in the presentation slides such as using Slide Share, any other
source or within the class. The lecturer may check plagiarism by himself if deemed
necessary.
4. Literature from the research article can be taken but need to cite them proper. Reference
must include with APA format style and recommend to use in at the end in each slides if
quoted or cited rather than putting all reference at the end.

5. The assessment will base upon individual performance of each member inside the group
using marking rubrics.
6. Please follow all instructions given under marking rubric to secured good marks.
7. The best presentation video and slides will upload after the assessment (continuous
assessment) inside the Moodle (last week of semester) and will share to all students. The
content of best presentation is the part of final examination.
8. The results of all presentations will announced before the end of semester and students
have right to appeal to me (aslam.shahzad@xmu.edu.my) in 1-2 days. After that no query
will entertained.
