Letter of Recommendation

I would like to recommend Mr. Rohit Bontalwar for Master‟s program in Engineering
Management of your Institution. I know him as a project mentor during his final year of
mechanical engineering. He is very sincere and hard working to achieve desired result which
was demonstrated by him during the execution of project “Design optimization of chlorine
contact tank” being used in UK. He along with his team investigated the Residence Time
Distribution with the help of CFD (Computational fluid Dynamics) software CFX.

He proved his concern for betterment of the society by selecting the subject based on
today‟s hygiene requirements. Most of the places the principle method used for the
disinfection of effluents is chlorination. Since chlorination practices in waste water entail a
significant amount of capital outlay and recurring expenditure, it is important that the process
be effective and efficient to result in a better economy. But achieving desired result was not
easy as the requirement of the experiment that the fluid entering in the contact chamber was
supposed to be evenly distributed over entire cross section of the basin and move in parallel
stream flow with constant uniform velocity for particular period called the „theoretical
detention time‟ to insure the continuous disinfection of fluid. But in actual practice significant
portion of the fluid leaves the tank with residence time considerably less than the theoretical
detention time. Thus, his team did a thorough analysis on why the significant portion of the
fluid leaves the tank with less resident time and also suggested a number of different methods
for improving it like different inlet outlet positions and various baffle plate arrangements. For
that the team used CFD analysis as it can accurately predict the hydrodynamics of the tank.

This project was done in a team of four and was led by him. The working of the team
members was cohesive. Rohit proved to be an excellent team leader and motivator. His hard
work and commitment led the team to success, thus achieving the desired result and
accomplishing the project within the stipulated time frame.

Rohit is a mature and confident individual and would be an excellent graduate student
if selected. I am pleased to recommend him for your institution with my good wishes.
