Brief chosen: Magazine and Website

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and
meet the requirements of your chosen brief?

Product 1
The way I intend to show representations through my magazine front covers is that I will have a specific representation
for the main article on each issue. For the first issue I will represent gender using my main image being a picture of a
woman. This will also represent the social issue of homelessness in our society with the woman being homeless, this
will be seen through the Main article being about homelessness for that edition and the main cover line talking about
homelessness with some facts and figures also, this will be accompanied by the main cover line being a reference to
the Madonna song ‘Material world’ to suggest society has become so comfortable in their own version of a material
world that they do not see the amount of people who are struggling in society. The woman will be surrounded by a few
belongings and will be wearing fully black, the image will be in black and white so the audience can infer the
seriousness of the situation. My second front cover article will focus on young men and will feature a picture of a young
sports star and will comment on how money, fame and the mainstream media has really affected their mental health
due to the huge amount of pressure and scrutiny they are under. The audience will be 16-25-year olds and they will be
wanting a current affairs magazine which talks about issues that young people are interested in. That is why for the
main articles I have chosen issues about mental health and of stereotypes of gender, but there will also be featured
articles about the coronavirus pandemic and how it has affected students going back to school, college and university.
There will be interviews from students about their experiences and how they feel about going back. There will also be a
featured article about climate change and what we as young people can do to help. Everything in my magazine will be
important to the target audience as they are topics that need to be spoken about but there is not always action taken. As
for industry, I know that the magazine is published by Dennis and I know that they would not want to alienate anyone
from the public to maximise sales. So, because of this, I will be intending to create this magazine and make all the
images I use and stories up to a standard that the publisher would like. As for media language, I will be making sure to
use codes and conventions on my front covers that would be seen on any normal magazine. The magazine will have a
layout that stays similar through the issues so the audience can find some familiarity from the magazine. The top left
third will have the masthead then below will have the date line and price. The bottom right third will have the barcode on
it and then the rest of the cover will be filled with the main image. With the main image there will be cover lines that will
be in different positions depending on the specific issue.

Product 2

For my website I aim to present to my audience a website for my magazine. The website will be inclusive and have
an audio visual of an interview with the executive producer of the magazine so the audience can feel like they get to
know the background staff and the work that gets put in to create the magazine. The video will talk about the corona
virus pandemic and how the magazine is working through the pandemic following the rules. It will also discuss a little
about what the brand is about and how it will use the platform it has created. As for the industry, Dennis would want
a website that is informative and engaging, so this website will be created to follow the type of ideals and interests of
the company. As for media language, the website will follow the patterns of other well-known magazine websites with
the logo in the top right corner and then there will be the different pages for the website below that so you can scroll
through and find what you want. The audio visual will be on the second page and it will accompany some information
about the magazine and its ethos. The colour pallet for the website will follow the colours of the masthead/logo from
the first issue to keep the sense of familiarity to the audience.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the
digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 word)

My website and magazines will be linked together because there will be references to the website
throughout my magazine front covers. For instance, there will be the link to the website on the contents
page with social media links also to show understanding of the digital age. My website will feature images of
my two front covers so the audience can see what the magazine is like so they can decide to buy another
issue if they like the look of it. Also, on the website will be social media links also to again attract the
audience to the social media accounts of the magazine as that is for many of the target audiences preferred
way of seeing information.
