Introductory Message
Hi, I’m Teach Joy and welcome to a fun-filled adventure as we take a
trip into the Information Technology and Communication World. The
whole world including the Philippines has continued to shape the vast
field of information and communication technology (ICT). This
encourages you to explore the general world of ICT and helps you to
develop your expertise in various applications. Enjoy your learning
journey!

Content Standard

The learners demonstrate an understanding of ICT in the context of global communication

for specific professional track

Performance Standard

The learners shall be able to, at the end of the 2-week period, independently compose an
insightful reflection paper on the nature of ICT in the context of their lives, society, and
professional tracks (Arts, Tech Voc, Sports, Academic)

Lesson
The Current State of ICT
1 Technologies

Week 1 MELC: Compare and contrast the nuances of varied online platforms, sites, and
content to best achieve specific class objectives or address situational challenges
(CS_ICT11/12-ICTPT-Ia-b-1)
Learning Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:

1. Understand the features of Web 1.0;

2. Understand the features of Web 2.0; and
3. Understand the future of the World Wide Web through Web 3.0

#TEACHJOY SAYS!
Did you know that
Tim Berners-Lee is
the one who invented
the World Wide Web!

Tim Berners –Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989.

He was a graduate of Oxford University, Sir Tim invented
the Web while at CERN, the European Particle Physics
Laboratory, in 1989. He wrote the first web client and
server in 1990. His specifications of URIs, HTTP and
HTML were refined as Web technology spread.

THE WEB 1.0, 2.0 AND 3.0

Web 1.0
Web 1.0 refers to the first level of evolution of the World Wide Web. Earlier, web 1.0 featured
only a few content producers with most users who are content consumers. Personal web
pages were popular, consisting mainly of static pages hosted on web servers run by ISP, or
on free web hosting.
Under Web 1.0 website ads are prohibited when internet browsing. In Web 1.0, Ofoto is also
an online platform for digital photography, on which users can store, download, display and
print digital images. Web 1.0 is a content delivery network (CDN) that allows the websites to
view the piece of information. It can be used as a personal location. It costs to use as per the
displayed pages.

Four design essentials of a Web 1.0 site include:

1. Static pages.
2. Content is served from the server’s filesystem.
3. Pages built using Server Side Includes or Common Gateway Interface (CGI).
4. Frames and Tables used to position and align the elements on a page.

Web 2.0
Web 2.0 refers to a global platform that emphasizes user-generated content, accessibility
and end-user interoperability. Web 2.0 is also known as participatory social network. It does
not apply to a modification of any technical specification, but to change the design and
usage of Web pages. The transformation is positive but when the changes occur it doesn't
seem.

Five major features of Web 2.0 –

1. Free sorting of information permits users to retrieve and classify the information
collectively.
2. Dynamic content that is responsive to user input.
3. Information flows between site owner and site users by means of evaluation & online
commenting.
4. Developed APIs to allow self-usage, such as by a software application.
5. Web access leads to concern different, from the traditional Internet user base to a
wider variety of users.

Web 3.0
It refers to the evolution of web use and interaction that involves turning the Web into a
database. Web 3.0 is a concept used to characterize several network implementation and
interaction evolutions across various paths. With this, data is not held but shared instead,
where services show different views for the same site / data. Also called the Semantic Web.

Below are 5 main features that can help us define Web 3.0:
1. Semantic Web
The succeeding evolution of the Web involves the Semantic Web. The semantic web
improves web technologies in demand to create, share and connect content through
search and analysis based on the capability to comprehend the meaning of words,
rather than on keywords or numbers.
2. Artificial Intelligence
Combining this capability with natural language processing, in Web 3.0, computers can
distinguish information like humans in order to provide faster and more relevant results.
They become more intelligent to fulfil the requirements of users.
3. 3D Graphics
The three-dimensional design is being used widely in websites and services in Web
3.0. Museum guides, computer games, ecommerce, geospatial contexts, etc. are all
examples that use 3D graphics.
4. Connectivity
With Web 3.0, information is more connected thanks to semantic metadata. As a
result, the user experience evolves to another level of connectivity that leverages all
the available information.
5. Ubiquity
Content is accessible by multiple applications, every device is connected to the web,
the services can be used everywhere.

Assessment

A. Modified True or False. Write T if the statement is True then change the underlined
word/s to make it correct. (2 pts each)
1. Bruce Lee created the World Wide Web.
2. Web 1.0 featured only a few content producers with most users who are
content consumers.
3. 3D Graphics was made possible during the Web 2.0.
4. Web 3.0 is the evolution of web use and interaction that involves turning the
Web into a database
5. A content is accessible by multiple applications is described as Ubiquity

B. Complete the table below by stating 5 differences of Web 1.0 to 3.0.
