Lesson Description Time

- I will write down the question on the board for the students to start
~5
Introduction thinking about. I will ask the students if they have any idea based on this
minutes
question what we will be learning in the next unit.
- Number Talk: I will write on the board the question “How many legs does 4
desks have?”, then I will provide an answer sheet for the students. On that
sheet they will write or draw their answer to that question, to show their
process. I will give the students about 5 minutes to think about the question
quietly. Then I will ask the class at large how they answered their question.
Hopefully some results will be by grouping, by adding groups together, adding ~40
Body numbers together, and multiplying.
- Discussion: What is multiplication? What does grouping sound like (they should
minutes
know how to do some grouping already)? How is adding related to
multiplication? What do we use multiplication for in our everyday lives?
- Activity/Game: Then afterwards if there is still time I will have some questions
up on the board for them to practice their grouping. They will use the
whiteboards in order to answer these questions.

- I will ask how many shoes 5 students have in our class? Therefore asking ~2
