Weather, Unit 1 Essential Knowledge

1. Recognize that the Sun provides the energy that
drives convection within the atmosphere and
oceans, producing winds
2. Identify the role of the oceans in the formation of
weather systems such as hurricane

One side will be hotter because of uneven heating

Areas with higher temperature will cause certain parts of the ocean to
heto a higher degree

I think that the difference in ocean temperature will cause air above the
warm area to become dense and humid?

-we have two tropical storms coming towards us now

The category 1 hurricane had faster winds after the category 4 hurricane
cooled down. Ad when the pressure deacresed the wind speed
increased.

The air pressure was stronger in the beginning and then gradually
decreased

The hurricane made landfall right on the edge of louisiana and Texas.

The equator has particularly warm waters so that causes more storms to
form.

Convection currents

Not taking in enough water to sustain its form.

I think that Hurricane Laura will continue to fizzle out over Arkansas
and Mississippi.

Hurricanes turn the way the do because of something called the coriolis
effect

Hurricane Noah or hurricane Nevaeh.

Monday Map:
1. Describe the location of high and low pressure
areas on the map.
There are no low pressure systems in Texas at the moment, but thre
are three low pressue systems to the North, South, and west of our
borders.
2. Describe the location of any cold and warm fronts
on the map.
There is a large cold front spanning across the US heading South East.
There is also a Warm front going North East.

3. Predict what the weather will be like in your city

five days from today.
I think we might get some slightly cooler if not more humid weather this
weekend.

Tuesday Map:
1. Describe how the high and low pressures areas
have changed from yesterday.
There are are more low pressure systems today, they seem to be
concentrated in the South West.

2. Describe how the cold and warm fronts have

changed from yesterday.
The warm front and cold front clashed and now its kinda just sitting there.
The warm front is moving north and the cold front is moving South.

Wednesday Map:
1. Describe how the high and low pressures areas
have changed from yesterday.
The cold front and low pressure systems are bringing in more humidity and rain.

2. Describe how the cold and warm fronts have

changed from yesterday.
There is a low pressure system moving South east towards Texas. We also
have a warm front moving North east towards New York

Thursday Map:
1. Describe how the high and low pressures areas
have changed from yesterday.
The pressure systems are less concentrated in the
south east today and are more scattered.t

2. Describe how the cold and warm fronts have

changed from yesterday.
