Departmental Account Activation

The Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering department has a unique dedicated network facilities.
The departmental network spans several buildings throughout the campus. The undergraduate programs are
limited to the 3rd and 4th floors of the Engineering building. Login accounts on the departmental network are
created yearly for the 2nd year students. Every system within the departmental network will require students to
provide a short login name, password and a two factor authentication code. This document will go through the
steps that you will need to follow to update your password, determine your short Unix login name and enable
the 2 factor authentication on the account.

Before proceeding any further please ensure that you download on your cell phone or tablet the Google
Authenticator if you don’t have it already. You more than likely already have the application installed on your
phone due to the requirement that Ryerson has put in place to access your my.ryerson.ca web portal.

You will need one of these applications to capture the QR code that you will be presented through the
password reset phase. Once you have the above application on your mobile device proceed to the following
website:

You will be presented with a Login window:

Use your @ryerson.ca email address as your login name and your student number as your password.
Complete the login by entering the Captcha string. If your account has been setup you will be presented with
the following pane:

If you do not see the above pane in your web browser send an email to accounts@ee.ryerson.ca. Include your
full name and your Ryerson student number expressing that you are attempting to setup your departmental
login credentials. The departmental IT administrator will follow up with you.

If you see the above pane check your email @ryerson.ca email. You will need to acknowledge the password
reset:

Once you have read the entire email please click on the Acknowledge URL within the email.
Clicking on the Acknowledgment link will bring you back to the departmental forums portal where you will see
the following within your web browser:

Again read the pane and ensure that you have the google authenticator application available so that you can
capture the unique QR code for your account. Click on the Departmental Web Portal circled in Red in the
above graphic and you will be directed back to the familiar login window:

Complete the login by entering the Captcha string. This time you will be presented with a password changing
screen.
Your Password MUST Contain:

● At least one Upper Case letter (ie ABCDE ...)

● At least one Lower Case letter (ie abcde ...)
● At least one number (ie 0123456789)
● At least one Symbol (ie: $%#@!&*()-=+)
● The password has to be at least 8 characters long
● The password cannot be in the dictionary
● The password cannot contain your login name
● The password cannot be any name (including yours)

The web page will now ask you to enter a password that follows the above criteria. If you get it wrong the
portal will tell you what you’ve missed.

Once you’ve met all the password criteria, you will be required to enter your password twice to confirm that you
know what you typed in.
The next screen has two items you need to take note of. Circled in red in the graphic below you should take
note of the unique short login name for your account and the QR code that is unique to your account.

A follow up email will be sent to your @ryerson.ca email address that will include your short login name but not
your QR code so you should take note of this before shutting down your browser. The follow up email will
appear as:

Your account will be access able within 24 hours after the account password reset has been completed. In the
meantime please reference the on-line Network User's Guide to review accessing the departmental
departmental facilities:
