INTRODUCTION
1.1 Objective:
To meet the upcoming demand in Coal Sector and present policy of Government
of India to make a huge Coal Bank of different grades and categories of Coal to
minimise import figures to its Lowe stand to feed both Government and Private
Sector coal based industries, CMPDI, the Nodal Agency of Ministry of Coal has been
regularly outsourcing different coal blocks for detailed exploration and
documentation. Mand-Raigarh Coalfield has been identified as a potential coalfield
for priority exploration since large tracts of virgin areas covered with coal bearing
formation to the West of Mand River have remained unexplored. For detailed
exploration by outsourced agencies, CMPDI has subdivided the West of Phatehpur
Basin into West of Basin Phatehpur “A”, “B” and “C” Blocks. MAPL after being
awarded has carried out detail exploration of West of Basin Phatehpur “A” Block
with the Following objectives:
1. To decipher lay and disposition of Coal Seams based on sub surface data
generated through drilling;
2. To interpret geological structure, faults etc;
3. To delineate and correlate workable and correlatable Coal Seams;
4. To determine grade wise quality of Coal Seams;
5. To estimate thickness wise, depth wise, grade wise and category wise net
geological reserves of seams of 1m and above in case of opencast property and
0.90m and above in case of underground property.
1.2 Location:
The West of Basin Phatehpur-A Block forms a part of the Mand-Raigarh Coal field,
Korba district in the state of Chhattisgarh. It spans over an area of 14.70 Sq.km
between,
Latitude 21°45’00” – 22°42’00” North.
Longitude 83°01’00” – 83°44’00” East.
The Block is falling in the Survey of India Top sheet no. 64 J/15 and 64 N/3 (RF
1:50,000). The West of Basin Phatehpur A Block is bounded by 6 Cardinal Points and
coordinates of the individual points as provided in NIT are given below in Table no.
1.1. The Location Plan has been shown in Plate No-I.
Figure 1.2 : Drainage Map in and around West of Basin Phatehpur-A Coal Block.
1.6 Climate:
The area is characterized by tropical climate with well defined summer from
April to June, monsoon from July to September and winter from November to
o
February. May is the hottest month when the temperature rises to a maximum of 48 C.
December is the coldest month with mercury dipping to a low of 7oC. The average

annual rainfall recorded in the region was 2200.8mm in 1994. The relative humidity
during the monsoon ranges from 75% to 80% and in summer from 18% to 60%.
1.7 Previous Work:
It is not known when coal was first reported from Mand Valley. W.T Blanford
carried out geological investigation in a part of this coalfield in 1870. Shortly
afterward, V. Ball surveyed the coalfield in some detail (1882). This was followed by
exploratory drilling carried out under the superintendence of W. King assisted by Lala
Hiralal (1886). The drilling operation was taken up in the neighbourhood of Tumidih
to prove the extension of seams outcropping in the bed of Mand River. The boring
proved two seams viz. the Jubilee seam (5.7 Meter) and Hiralal Seam (4.3 Meter).
1. Discouraged by the inferior quality of the seam, the investigation was
discontinued. After a lull of about 60 years, the field again received attention
of geologists, when S. M. Mathur (1949), A. B. Dutta (1953), M. S.
Venkatraman, J.Narayana Moorthy and B.N. Sinha (1959) examined part of
the coalfield.
2. The Mand valley area of this belt was geologically mapped on 1: 63,360
scale map between 1961 and 1966 by V.D.Puri, G.P. Deshmukh, A. K. Dey
etc. who located the various coal outcrops and worked out the structural
framework of the basin.
3. Since 1977, A. Mukhopadhaya etc of GSI took up exploration by drilling
in the area south of Dharamjaygarh. D. K. Dey (1982) of GSI carried out large
scale geological mapping of 15 Sq. KM area in the northern part of the
Dharamjaygarh-Khargaon area of Mand Raigarh coal field. During the field
season 1979-80, a total of 2292.15 m were drilled in 7 bore holes (MRK 9-15),
in which eight regionally persistent coal seams and five locally developed coal
seams were intersected. A total of 281.6 Million Tonne of reserves have been
estimated, out of which 16.5 and 265.1 Million Tonne are of proved and
indicated categories respectively.
4. During the late 90’s, GSI had carried out regional exploration in Ongana-
Potia Block and Jilga-Barpali Block located East of Mand River in Mand
Raigarh Coal Field. A total of 8 regionally persistent seams have been reported
in Ongana Potia while five upper Barakar Seams (interbanded) have
Geological Report
West of Basin Phatehpur-A Block
Mand Raigarh Coal Field, Korba District, Chhattisgarh
been reported in Jilga-Barpali Block. GSI has carried out regional exploration
in Kera Kachhar area and has drilled some bore holes of “KKR” and “KK”
series. This area lays West of Basin Phatehpur Block and East of Rajgamar
area. MECL has carried out priority regional exploration in the Trans-Mand
Sector located west of Mand River since December 1997 to 2000 over an area
of about 435 Sq. Km extending from Syang in the North to West of Basin
Phatehpur in the south. In view of extremely large expanse of coal bearing
potential area, it was suitably divided into four parts for ease of
documentation. MECL submitted the Geological Report of Syang-Boro Block
in June, 2000 containing data of 31 boreholes spread over 94.5 square
kilometers and estimated a total coal reserve of 1511.925 million tonne under
indicated category.
5. The regional exploration in Basin Phatehpur Block by MECL was
completed in March 2000. In this block covering an area of 37 Sq. Km, MECL
has drilled 9 bore holes involving 4047.95m. A total of seventeen seams
designated as XIX – to III in descending order have been intersected in the
boreholes drilled in the Block. In this Block, MECL has estimated a total of
1364.769 million tonne of coal reserves. The Geological Report of this Block
has been submitted by MECL in December, 2000.
6. MECL has also submitted the Geological Report on Batati-Kolga Block
in April, 2002 and has estimated total, of 2303.546 million tonne of coal
reserves.
Priority regional exploration under promotional program carried out by
MECL (from 1.4.2002 to 17.04.2003) in West of Basin Phatehpur Block
involved geological mapping of 48 Sq. Km area, exploratory drilling of 32
Boreholes involving 14798.75 meter of drilling, chemical analysis of 822.36
meter (band-by-band) and 342 numbers of seam overall (at 60% RH and
40°C) samples besides special tests. Based on this promotional drilling Report
of MECL, West of Basin Phatehpur Block was further been subdivided into
West of Basin Phatehpur A, B & C Blocks for detailed exploration.

1.8 Mining History of the Block:
There is no mining activity in West of Basin Phatehpur A Block. The nearest
Opencast Mine is Jampali Mine of Mand Raigarh Coalfield. This Mine is about 33 km
towards SE of Phatehpur A Block.
1.9 Exploration Design:
Exploration design was based on the existing 13 numbers of coring boreholes
drilled by MECL on regional exploration campaigning within the block. This phase
was initially designed to prove till seam II. However, once the exploration program
was commenced at site, it was felt unnecessary to drill till floor of seam II because of
poor seam thickness and high parting in between Seam III and Seam II. Thus the
design was considered to drill up to the base of Seam III on 400 m X 400 m grid
pattern to establish the potentially of the opencast mining for the younger packets
(Seam XVI to Seam VI) and underground potentiality of the older seams till seam III.
1.10 Important features in the area:
Most of the area is covered under forest area while a nala in the northern part
along with its branches are dissecting part of the block. The western part of the block
is represented by higher elevation which is geologically controlled by Kamthi
formation. Even the younger seam will also have high overburden in this part of the
block.
1.11 Present Investigations:
The present investigations comprising 60602.60 meter of drilling including
45690.05 meter of coring drilling and 14912.55 meter of non coring drilling covers
the total area with 157 nos. of boreholes. Exploration was carried out during the
period of November, 2014 to April, 2016. An Interim Geological Note was submitted
on completion of 50% of the drilling activities on August, 2015. After completion of
100% of drilling activities during May 2016, MAPL had to wait an abnormally long
period to receive the analysis results from CIMFR Laboratories at Bilaspur and
Nagpur. As a result, Draft geological Report could not be prepared as per schedule
and as advised by CMPDI, a Status Report was submitted on 31st January 2017.
Finally, all the Band by Band, Seam Overall and GCV results were received during
November 2017, based on which this Revised Draft Geological Report has been
prepared and submitted in the month of February, 2018. Subsequently, there was a
Geological Report
West of Basin Phatehpur-A Block

need for deliberation on the distribution of Seam III whether to be considered as a
composite seam of split seam. Side by side, arrangement of quality data was also
processed to fit with the seam correlation. Consideration for computed Seam Overall
data was inevitable. Finally, with due consultation with RI-V, CMPDIL, the
correlation and consideration criteria for Seam’s were finalised and seam III has been
depicted as a composite. Accordingly Final Geological Report is being prepared.
However, as on date, analysis results of Special tests are yet to be received except
AFT of 2 boreholes out of 11 boreholes sent for analysis.

2.2.4 Processing and Results
Horizontal traverses ( With Total Station & DGPS):
Survey work has been done with reference to the Collar Data of boreholes MNPS
138, 139 and 154 of MECL falling within the Block. These values were provided by
CMPDI, RI-V. The values are shown in Table 2.2below:

Reduced Level value of MNPS 05 situated just outside the Block, very close to its
south-eastern boundary was also utilized. Though initially survey work was taken up
using Reference Points provided by CMPDI, RI-V, three TBM Points with pillars were
also fixed by MAPL which are given in Table 2.3. below:

CMPDI RI-V had also checked and approved these TBM Points to be utilized for
detail contour survey. Survey team was engaged with Total Station Instrument for
traversing the entire survey area. Initial survey work commenced from 20th
November, 2014. Spot “X, Y & Z” values were recorded on field varying from 10
m to 20 m (depending on terrain condition) interval. Intermittent check survey was
conducted for rectification measure wherever required.

Closed vertical traverses (Leveling):
Leveling work has been carried with Total Station instrument. As one of the quality
measures is leveling work, all the control points have been connected again while
returning back to close at the starting point. Thus, two values have been generated for
each control point. Wherever difference is more than 10 mm, leveling work has been
repeated and corrected for better accuracy.
Detail Topographical Survey:
After finalization of horizontal and vertical traverses, X, Y, and Z values were
arrived for each traverse station. From these known traverse stations, detailed
topographical survey has been started to capture all existing features both manmade
and natural objects as per specifications using Electronic Total Station Instruments.
For this work two/three teams were engaged.
Ground spot levels as per ground conditions were computed. Grid was laid over
horizontal surfaces or slope with uniformity. This methodology was followed to get
all the spot levels. Based on these spot levels contour lines at 1 meter interval was
created. Every day after field work, collected data from Total Station Instruments
have been downloaded and drawings were prepared/updated. As a quality measure,
a separate team was deputed in the field for verification of collected data to compare
with ground details. Omission or correction if any has been rectified and necessary
correction has been incorporated in the drawing.
Geographical co-ordinates of a few boreholes distributed within the Block were
also determined for integrating the block with the rest of the area in the coalfield map
and is shown in Table 2.4 below.

2.8.4. Interpretation
It is a common law that mudstones have higher GR values and conventional sandstones
have relatively lower GR values in clastic rock formations. Therefore, the GR log is
widely used to calculate apparent shale content for clastic rock. Based on the principles
of rock naming, sandstone and mudstone can be distinguished by the apparent shale
content cut-off value of 50%. However, according to the principles of GR log, the GR
value only reflects the rock’s radioactive character. Thus, some sandstone reservoirs
with relatively high radioactive features are often found to be symbiotic of
conventional sandstone reservoirs. In order to distinguish conventional sandstone
reservoir from high GR sandstone reservoir, the sandstone reservoirs with apparent
shale content greater than the cut-off value of 50% are defined as high GR sandstone
reservoirs. According to the GR log characters of conventional sandstone and

mudstone in the study area, when the GR value is 110 API, the apparent shale content is
approximated to be 50%.
The feldspar, clay minerals, and tuff in sandstones usually contain or absorb radioactive
elements, so the accumulation of feldspar, clay minerals, and tuff will lead to high GR
character for sandstones. Laboratory experiments, such as rock thin section analysis, X-
ray diffraction analysis, and whole rock analysis will be helpful in this regard to
understand the reason for high gamma ray.
Initially band by band analysis of the coal cores were obtained and subsequently
proximate analysis at 60% RH & 40 oC and special tests were advised for BCS, I 30, I100
and Ip samples which are defined as under:
BCS Sample: Only coal, shaly coal and carbonaceous shale low.
I30 Sample: Including combustible bands up to a thickness of 30cm. This type of
analysis has been asked only for assessing underground reserves. Dirt bands upto 5cm
irrespective of lithology have been included in the seam for quality assessment.
Carbonaceous shale high bands having thickness more than 30cm have been excluded
from the seam thickness.
I100 Sample: ‘BCS sample+ carbonaceous shale (ash+ moisture upto 75% ) bands and
grey shale(ash+moisture >75%) bands up to 1m in thickness and excluding all other
obvious bands such as sandy shale, shaly sandstone, sandstone etc. irrespective of
their thickness.
Ip Sample: I100 Sample+ carbonaceous and grey shale bands irrespective of their
thickness and excluding all other obvious bands as in I 100 sample.
Out of 118 coring boreholes drilled in the Block, 117 boreholes had been sent for
Band by Band moisture and ash results on air dried basis (total core of one borehole
has been sent for Physico-mechanical Test). BB analysis of all the advised boreholes
were received and considered for lithological corrections and seam structure
development. Out of the total 117 BB analysed boreholes, a total of 62 numbers of
boreholes were selected for SOV and GCV analysis and all the analysis results have
been received till date. A total 11 number of boreholes were selected out of the 62 to
carry out Special Tests. Till date AFT results of only 2 boreholes namely MMPA 38
and 39 have been received and have been given in Annexure VIIA. All the other

The coal and carbonaceous horizons have been differentiated from each other on the basis of
moisture and ash contents as applicable in high moisture non-coking coal. Ash plus moisture
values, considered for different constituents of coal, are as follows:
Table 4.1
General Description
Lithology Ash + Moisture
Coal Up to 40.0 %
Shaly coal > 40.0% up to ≤ 55.0%
Carbonaceous Shale Low >55.0% up to ≤ 65.0%
Carbonaceous Shale High / (Combustible bands) > 65.0% up to ≤ 75.0%
Non-combustible Band/Obvious Dirt Bands More than 75.0%
To delineate coal seams and carbonaceous horizons following points are considered:
i. Shaly coal and carbonaceous shale Low occurring at the roof and floor of the seam have
been included within the coal seam.
ii. The Carbonaceous shale High or the obvious band occurring immediately below the roof
and above the floor has been considered as a part of the seam only when the thickness of the
band is less than or equal to that of coal, shaly coal or Carbonaceous shale Low overlying and/or
underlying it.
iii. The Carbonaceous shale High and the obvious dirt bands exceeding 1.00 m. and 0.30m
thickness respectively have been excluded from I100 and I30 samples

their band by band results, seam overall and special tests for the selected samples have been
carried out as follows:
Proximate Analysis on 60% RH and 40˚C for both BCS (barring carbonaceous shale) and
I100 (including all dirt bands up to 1m thickness) samples and determination of Gross
Calorific Value(GCV);
Determination of Phosphorus, Carbonate and Sulphur distribution;
Ultimate Analysis for BCS samples;
Ash Fusion Temperature Range (AFT) for I100 samples;
Hardgrove Grindability Index (HGI) (HGI) & Ash analysis for I100 samples
4.1.4 Data Processing:
4.1.4.1 Lithologs, seam structures and quality statements:
The roof and floor of all coal seams were determined on the basis of band analysis data and their
seam structures. The detailed litholog of all bore holes were validated and processed through
Minex, the graphic logs on the basis of band by band data on R.F. 1:500 were made through
MINEX and plotted through CAD software.
Roof and floor of coal seams have been fixed on the basis of band by band analysis results
eliminating dirt-bands on 1:1 proportion method. In case of not analyzed insignificant coal seams
on visual logging, roof and floor of a particular seam has also been selected by eliminating

visually logged dirt bands on 1:1 proportion method and after matching the thickness of the seam
with the surrounding boreholes, where band by band analysis data are available. In certain cases,
analyzed carbonaceous shale bands containing overall ash + moisture close to 55% are also
considered as part of coal seam depending upon regional behavior of the seam around the
borehole.
BCS Thickness-It is the cumulative thickness of all the coal, shaly coal and carbonaceous shale
low.
I100 Thickness – It is the cumulative thickness of all the coal, shaly coal and carbonaceous shale
low sections along with the thickness of all dirt bands (both combustible and noncombustible)
greater than 0.30m and less than 1m in thickness present within the seam.
I30 Thickness – It is the cumulative thickness of all the coal, shaly coal and carbonaceous shale
low sections along with the thickness of all dirt bands (both combustible and noncombustible) up
to 0.30m in thickness present within the seam.
In case the individual seam is not developed and/or converted to complete Carbonaceous shale
high, then half way influence zone around those boreholes and the surrounding boreholes has
been drawn and marked as zone of non-development/deterioration.
4.1.4.3 M100 CALCULATION Moisture Content on Pure Coal Basis:
M100 value of a particular coal seam was calculated from seam overall proximate analysis on 60%
RH and 40oC data of that particular seam of all boreholes, by using following formula: -
M*100
M100 = =M
100 - (1.1* A + M)
Where M = Moisture % and A = Ash %, determined on 60% RH and 40oC as per IS 1350, Part I,
1984.

Weighted average of moisture and ash contents of the coal seam from band by band analysis (as
available on air dried basis) were calculated as follows:

West of Basin Phatehpur-A Block
Mand Raigarh Coal Field, Korba District, Chhattisgarh
∑ (Weight x Moisture %)
Average Moisture% =---------------------------------------= M
∑ Weight
∑ (Weight x Ash %)

∑ Weight
Where moisture%, ash% and weight were of determined band by band proximate analysis as per
IS 1350, Part I, 1984.
If weighted average moisture and ash contents on air-dried basis as obtained above are M and A
respectively.

Based on the previous exploratory details and established seam correlation chart, seam
correlation has been done in this part of the basin for the ongoing exploration program.
Individual seams were identified and plotted on regular basis post completion of each borehole.
Seam L12 is found to be the younger most coal horizon in West of Basin Phatehpur-A Block
whereas III is the oldest Seam. Seam XVI, however, is intersected only in 27 boreholes within
the Block. All the boreholes have been drilled up to Seam III, the bottom most target seam as
per work order, excepting only five which have been taken up to L-4, occurring below a major
parting from Seam III. Three most persistent seams, viz. Seam XVI, XV & XIV and XIVA are
found to in crop within this Block whereas rest of the seams have in cropped far north beyond
the Block boundary. Coal core samples were collected and advised for analysis for different

5.3.2 Barriers:
As such no barriers are conceptualized for blocking of reserve within this block. A
surface run off in the north eastern corner
5.3.3 Sectors / Sub sectors:
No sectors and sub sectors has been considered in this report.
5.3.4 Mine data considered:
The area is devoid of any mining activities at present. Thus no mine data has been
considered for reserve estimation.
Geological Report
West of Basin Phatehpur-A Block
Mand Raigarh Coal Field, Korba District, Chhattisgarh
5.3.5 Methodology:
The volume of coal reserves has been estimated by volumetric method using the
relevant module of Minex Software. For converting the volume into tonnage, average
relative density as defined in the ISP and furnished in table no. 5.1 are considered.
Thickness grids as estimated from the effective thicknesses (after reducing the in seam
band thickness) and were used for reserve estimation through Minex software. Effective
thickness for non coring boreholes were estimated from the Geophysical Log
interpretations. Thus effective thickness grids have been generated with 100% boreholes
while GCV grids were generated from the coring boreholes only. Computed GCV values
were used wherever SOV data not available.
5.3.6 Average Specific Gravity:
Average specific gravity as depicted in table no. 5.1 is utilized for volume to tonnage
conversion.
5.3.7 Computation of Coal Reserves:
A reserve has been computed from the grids generated through Minex Software.
Grids were generated with “General Purpose Gridding” with 25 x 25 mesh sizes. Data
boundary is restricted to 200 m.
5.4 Overburden
5.4.1 Nature
The top Overburden of west of Basin Phatehpur A shows a varying degree of
maturation starts from the thick weathered zone to exposed Kamthi group of sandstones.
Kamthi’s are exposed in the relatively higher elevation zones and found to occur in the
western section of the block.
The overburden is mostly hard compact sandstones of Barakar formation as a
partings between the seams.
5.4.2 Inseam burden:
In seam burdens are mostly represented by carbonaceous shales and grey shales.
5.4.3 Methodology for Overburden Estimate:
For estimation of top OB, volume difference between the topographical surface and
floor of base of weathering grids were used. Estimation has been done through Minex
software.
Geological Report
West of Basin Phatehpur-A Block
Mand Raigarh Coal Field, Korba District, Chhattisgarh
As the opencast seam considerations are limited to floor of Seam VIB, all OB
estimations were restricted to roof of Seam VIB. Wherever, seam VIB are found to be
deteriorated or not developed, overlain workable seams were considered for estimation
of overburden.
The estimated top OB comes to about 194.41 Million Cum. The estimated
Overburden upto roof of seam VIB comes to about 2698.323 Mcum. Seam wise
overburden including top OB of 194.41 Million Cum is furnished in Annexure-XII.

7.1 GENERAL
The coals available in West of Basin Phatehpur-A block are of relatively high
moisture, moderate to high ash, low rank, non-coking coals of both inferior and
superior nature. Altogether there are 32 correlatable coal seams observed in the block
with 10 numbers of local seams which have also been correlated as per the available
regional exploratory data. Younger seams are found to be incropping within this block
are Seam XVI, XV, XIVA, XIV & Seam XIII. In between the inconsistent coal seams
namely L12 is also incropping however due to their inconsistent nature and poor
thickness range expected not to have any effect on mining. Initially it was firmed to
estimate floor of Seam VI as a limit for opencast reserve while older seams (V, IV &
III) were supposed to be considered as underground potential. However, as seen from
the processed data after due lithological correction from band by band analysis results,
the middle packet consisting Seam IX, VIII T , VIII B, VII T, VII B, VIT & VI B are
having very poor thickness range and their average thickness range is less than the
workable thickness. Thus floor of Seam X has been considered as limit for quarriable
reserve which occurs mostly within a depth range of 200 meter from the surface level.
Seam IV Top, IV Bottom & III are considered to be potential for underground mining.
The general seam sequence of West of Basin Phatehpur A is depicted in table no. 7.1
below.

Opencast coal resources were estimated based on I 100 criteria. Minimum 1.0 meter
effective thickness was considered for resource estimation. Floor of seam VIB has been
considered for limiting the opencast coal reserve. This is found to occur mostly in the
depth range of 0 to 300 meter from surface level. Details of opencast coal reserve is
given in table no. 7.2 below.

7.5 Possibilities:
7.5.1 Entries:
Seam incrops of XIII, XIV, XIVA, XV & XVI are present within the block. Mine
entry location can be firmed based on the site conditions to touch the floor of Seam XIII
in the initial stage. With progress of mine in down dip direction towards South East,
subsequently opening up of Seam XIV, XV and XVI will be followed.
For Underground opening, inclined or shafts may be planned with suitable techno
economical planning.
7.5.2 External Overburden dump:
The whole West of Basin Phatehpur A coal block is found to be mineralized. Thus need
for external overburden dump is envisaged in the initial stage of mining till sufficient
de-coaled areas are available for internal dumping.
7.5.3 Colony
Can be planned while project planning.
7.4.1Coal characteristics
The coals of West of Basin Phatehpur A are, in general, high moisture, moderate to
high ash, low rank, non-coking coals of both inferior and mid calorific value range. The
HT range is found more than 14500C.
The Coals from West of Basin Phatehpur A are mostly suitable for power
generation. A selective mining of the UG seams can give a moderate ash coal which
may be suitable for Sponge Iron production DRI technology.

undulatory terrain, much of the lands are not under cultivation and most of the
cultivable lands are found to be single crop based on monsoon rain. The major river in
the part is Labed which flows south easterly to meet Mand River. Regional drainage
pattern depicts dendritic pattern.
West of Basin Phatehpur-A Block with an area of 14.70 Sq. Km. of Mand Raigarh
Coal Field was taken up for detailed geological exploration.
75000 (+/- 30%) including 56250m and 18750m of coring and non coring drilling
respectively were proposed in the NIT and Work Order. Finally 60602.60 m including
45690.05 m coring and 14912.55 m of non coring drilling were done in the Block. A
few proposed points falling in highly forested and hilly terrain in the south western
corner of the block were inaccessible. CMPDI, after discussing the matter in a Review
Meeting held in May 2016 decided to close Drilling Operation without trying to take up
these points. A total of 157 boreholes were drilled in the Block including 118 coring
boreholes and 39 non coring boreholes. Boreholes were placed on 400m grid pattern.
An overall borehole density of 11.56 BH/Sq. km (including MNPS series, MECL
Boreholes) suggests a reasonably good for reserve estimation as per UNFC
classification. Except in the north eastern corner of the block, the rest of the area depicts
simple geological structure.
Topographical Survey was carried out for the entire block with contour interval of
5 M.
Total core of one borehole namely MMPA 59 was sent for Physcio-Mechanical
Test at CIMFR, Dhanbad; results are enclosed in Annexure-VIII. Coal cores of 117
boreholes have been sent for Band by band analysis and analysis results were utilized
for lithological correction as well as roof and floor adjustment. A total 62 boreholes
were selected for seam overall analysis and results were utilized to derive the overall
grade of the coal seams. I100, I30 and BCS samples were analyzed and results are utilized
for delineation of in seam bands. Ultimate analysis advice has been made for 11
boreholes, however results are still awaited. Petrographic test results of two boreholes
are also awaited. All these special test results will be incorporated in the final
Geological Report.
All Coal seams in the Block are confined within Barakar Formations. All together
32 correlatable coal horizons including 9 numbers of local seams were identified from
the exploratory data of the block. Though many coal horizons are identified, however, a
distinct two packets – one is suitable for opencast mining and the other is suitable for
