In this project we were asked to
investigate, and research
curriculum change and reform.
What were we
asked to do? Using this research we had to
develop either a Junior Cert or
TY short course incorporating
both maths and the technical
subjects.
Reform

THE NEW CYCLE ALLOWS STUDENTS TO REFORM IS INTRODUCED IN EDUCATION THE REFORM ENCOURAGES FORMATIVE
EXPRESS THEMSELVES CREATIVELY AND TO CATER FOR SKILLS THAT STUDENTS ASSESSMENT WHICH ALLOWS STUDENTS
FOCUSES ON THE STUDENT'S WELL- WILL REQUIRE TO CHOOSE A TO CRITICALLY REFLECT ON THEIR
BEING. SUCCESSFUL PATHWAY IN LIFE AFTER LEARNING AND CONTINUOUSLY
SCHOOL. UPSKILL THEIR SKILLS.
A stakeholder in education is anyone who has an interest
in the success of a school or its system. For example
students, teachers and the NCCA

The main reason for reform is that evidence shows

Stakeholders that effective, ongoing assessment practice can support
the students’ learning.

The reform affected the aim of Junior Cycle Mathematics.

The aim is now to provide relevant and
challenging opportunities so students can cope when
faced with challenges of daily life.

Architectural Design
Modelling (ADM)
◦ Ty short course – 15 weeks , 3 hours a week
◦ Students have to walk the plans of the bottom
floor of their house.
◦ Sketch the plans with the measurements.
◦ Convert the foot to mm.
◦ Make a cardboard model of the building.
◦ Do up a working drawing of the plan of their
house.
◦ Then the students make the 3D model on
SolidWorks.
◦ Portfolio and Presentation.
Enable students to Encourage students
represent a to develop their
SolidWorks Model artistic side by
from a 2D technical sketching and design.
Aims of drawing.

Architectural
Design Give students a taste Incorporate maths
Modelling for DCG and
SolidWorks at
into the technical
subjects – change
leaving cert level. foot to mm
Teaching Methodologies
◦ For ADM we are going to use a variety of different methods.
◦ We will be using several different types of technology such as
PowerPoint, SolidWorks and Floor plans from planning
permission sites.
◦ Use 3-D models to allow students to visualise the floor plans
and allow them complete this project.
◦ Also students will participate in group work to get inspiration
for their sketches and enable them to develop communication
skills.
IN TODAY’S EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY

Differentiation DIFFERENTIATION IS SOMETIMES IGNORED. THIS

CRASH COURSE INCORPORATES VARIOUS ASPECTS
WHICH ALLOWS STUDENTS OF VARIOUS ABILITIES TO
EXCEL AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER.

VISUALISATION – SKETCHING – NUMERACY – TECHNICAL STUDENTS

DIFFERENTIATION
Solidworks
◦ Great way of incorporating technology into the classroom.

◦ Allows students to get a feel of efficient and accurate working drawings.

◦ Increase visualization skills of 3-D objects.

◦ Prepare them for DCG at Leaving Cert.

Numeracy
◦ •Students are given examples of houses with different values
missing and they must solve equations to find the missing
dimensions.

◦ •Students measure their houses to find the square footage of the

house.

◦ •Convert between feet and mm.

◦ •Create a scale for the floor plan and make sure drawings are
proportional to real life.
Assessment
◦ This course includes formative and summative assessment.
◦ One form of assessment is Rubric peer-assessment, the
students will firstly peer assess their working drawings.
◦ Other forms of assessment that will take place are
questioning and observation.
◦ Students will also get their working drawings assessed by the
teacher and this will be formative feedback.
◦ The students have to do up a portfolio at the end of the year
containing the working drawings and solidworks model, this
then has to be presented to the class - this will be a form of
summative assessment.
Conclusion
• Architectural Design Modelling (ADM)

• TY Course

• Involves Sketching, 3D Modelling, Math's, Construction Drawing

• Encourages students Creativity as well as their Communication,

Visualisation, Numeracy, Drawing and Practical skills
