1 GENERAL REMARKS
1/2 VISCOSITY
The grade of hydraulic oil used in drilling jumbo has great implication on the life of components
such as pumps or rock drills.
At a given temperature, the oil must be sufficiently fluid when cold to facilitate starts-up and
reduce pressure drop through the filters, and sufficiently thick when hot to ensure lubrication in
hard working conditions.
A too low viscosity causes breaking of the lubrication film in contacting surfaces, increasing rapid
wear of components.
A too high viscosity causes flow losses, seals damage due to increasing of return line pressure,
and a risk of cavitation for the pumps.
Small deviations in viscosity do not necessarily have a rapid or marked effect, but can cause
damage and extra cost.
2. Viscosity of the oil at the operating temperature should be close to the 60 cSt
value, yet so that a possible deviation in continuous use stays within the range
50...110 cSt.
The following variation limits are momentarily (but not continuously !) allowed:
-- 110 -- 200 cSt as a result of cold temperature peak, or
-- 30 -- 50 cSt as a result of hot temperature peak
The limits given by the general charts should be observed first and foremost. In
each case it should always be checked that the product in question brings about
the desired properties.
4. If the fonctioning conditions are such that an unigrade oil does not keep within the given
viscosity limits, then a multigrade oil should be chosen instead.
5. The oil should be changed once a year if heavy use does not require more frequent
changing. This change recommendation based on time is given for the reason that
in a year the oil ages and collects moisture so much that changing is justified.
The selected hydraulic oil should be of high quality and should also be functionnal in
varying temperature ranges
CAUTION : Never mix different types of oils in a hydraulic system. Mixing may damage hydraulic
components.
1/4 ADDITIVES
Oil should contain additives typical for high performance hydraulic oils.
Oil properties change in use, meaning that certain additives are no longer capable to fulfill the
functions intended for them.
2/1 RECOMMENDATIONS
TAMROCK has recommendations for oils in hydraulic system, based on the operation
temperatures.
It is important to choose the adapted oil and respect the recommended changing
intervals. The choice of oil depends on ambient temperature underground.
In case of other oil choose, be sure that the oil typical characteristics are respected.
You will find enclosed supplier recommendations which indicate these characteristics.

5 GREASING RECOMMENDATIONS
Many parts must be reguliarly grease for good operation (cylinders, axles, sliding parts...).
The grease nipples location is indicated in the maitenance manuals.
You will find the greasing frequency in the machine lubrication schedule.

6/1 REPLACEMENT
The oil cicuits filter elements (cartridges) must be exchange at the recommended interval (see
the machine lubrication schedule).
You will find the references of the cartridges in the hydraulic shematic of your machine
(near this symbol) or on the spare parts book.

Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40, utilisée suivant nos recommandations et dans le respect des consignes de sécurité ne présente pas de
danger pour la santé. Toutefois, il faut éviter les contacts prolongés ou répétés avec les huiles de vidange moteurs. Lors de
l'opération de vidange, il est conseillé de porter des gants et une protection adaptés. En cas de contact entre la peau et l'huile
de vidange, lavez vos mains avec de l'eau et du savon. Les mesures d'hygiène et de sécurité ainsi que les précautions à
prendre dans ses emplois habituels sont mentionnées dans la fiche de sécurité (FDS) qui peut être obtenue sur simple
