Plans for Leading a Discussion at the Closing of the Lesson/Period

Launch Frame
We have been learning about the Mier Expedition. We talked about how the
majority of the Texan troops at the Rio Grande border decided to disobey
Somerville’s orders to go home after the expedition was decided to be a failure.
The Texans then proceeded to invade the Mexican city of Mier where a battle
took place between the Mexicans and the Texans. The Texans surrendered and
were taken as prisoners. The Texans escaped but suffered from starvation. They
were eventually recaptured. Today we are going to figure out what happens next

punishment?
Conclusion Frame
We have been learning about the Mier Expedition and the grim consequences
that followed for the Texans. The combination of Santa Anna’s cruel and unusual
order and the disobeying of Somerville’s orders led the Texans to their demise.
The Texans faced two harsh futures during the Bean draw. Draw a black bean
and be executed, or draw a white bean and be imprisoned in unsurvivable
conditions.
Plans for Differentiated Instruction/Accomodations
The teacher will provide sentence stems for special education students. The

Assessment
The post assessment for this lesson will be in the form of their independent practice. The teacher will
examine their work from answering the questions about whether or not the bean draw was a fair practice
and the question about how they would of handled the situation if they were Santa Anna.
Classroom Management Plan for the Lesson
The management strategies I plan to use revolve around the students knowing the clear expectations and
procedures of the classroom environment. Students will always have something to do and there will be little
to no down time. The teacher will go over the expectations for the bean draw. The teacher will explain the
clear expectation that everyone will raise their hands when they want to answer a question at the beginning

of the lesson. The students will immediately have a task to complete as soon as they enter the classroom.
This will set a clear expectation of the procedure being asked of them. The teacher will continuously
monitor students and their behavior by walking around the classroom to check if students are on task.
