ABSTRACT

Mobile phone is our means to remain connected. While the phones have
progressively got more powerful processors and large touch screen interfaces, their
power requirement has increased correspondingly. Unfortunately, battery
technology has not been growing at a comparable pace. Hence, there is a need to
frequently charge the batteries. While travelling, people face a common problem of
charging electronic appliances. Our solution to this problem is mechanical based
hand crank charger. Mechanical hand crank mobile charger is a device that utilizes
mechanical energy, converts it into electrical energy and charges the mobile. It
doesn't require any electrical source. Also by going for this alternative source of
energy we can reduce the human footprint on Earth as we are using human effort
instead of conventional electricity. We have used a gear train and intermediate
gears for transformation of mechanical energy from hand crank to generator.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

USB charging is currently the most universal method of charging an electronic

device. This project details the process of construction of a cheap and simple
portable USB charger which can be used to charge cell phones.

(1) IC 7805:

Fig 8

 IC 7805 is used to regulate voltage.

 IC 7805 is a 5V voltage regulator that restricts the voltage output to 5V and

draws 5V regulated power supply. It comes with provision to add heartsick.
 The maximum value of the voltage regulator is 35V.

 It regulates a steady output of 5V if he input voltage is in rang of 7V to 35V.

 IC 7805 provide +5V DC regulated power with an input voltage

ranging from current 7V to 25V.
 It is given constant current of 1A as output.

(2) USB Female Pin:

Pin Name Cable Color Description
1 VCC Red +5 VDC
2 D- White Data -
3 D+ Green Data +
4 GND Black Ground

USB supplied voltage by a host or a powered HUB ports is between 4.75V and

5.25V. Maximum voltage hubs is 0.35V from its host or hub to the output port .

Normal operational voltage for functions is minimum 4.75 V.

(3) Resistor:
Fig 10

A resistor is a two terminals electronic component that produces a voltage across

its terminals that is proportional to the electric current through it in accordance
with Ohm’s law.
V=IR
The ohm it’s Unit.Commonly used multiples and sub multiples in electrical and
electronics use are milliohm (10-3), kiloohm(103), etc.

(4) LED:
Fig 11

A LED is a semiconductor device that emits incoherent narrow spectrum light

when electrically based in the forward direction of P-N Junction. The effect is a
form of electroluminescence. LEDs are small extended sources with extra optics
added to the chip, which emit a complex intensity spatial distribution. The color of
the emitted light depends on the composition and the semi conducting material
used, and can be infrared, visible or near ultraviolet.

Advantages:
Use it when no electricity is available. This is the one of the most important
advantages of Portable USB charger that when you don’t have electricity at
your place or anywhere else you can always charge your electronic devices
through Portable USB charger.
It is a high powered and it charge the devices in very less time whereas
normal phone chargers take a lot of time.
Easily connect to a USB port.
It can easily get connect with USB port so that can be recharge with a laptop
or in car.

Disadvantages:

Battery gets drained, Some people have the tendency to charge their phones
even if they don’t need charging.
When Portable USB charger Battery ia almost discharge , the speed of
charging is very low.
Using the phone while it is attached to the Charger is difficult.

Applications:

 Simple Circuit
 Voltage Regulation
