Lower Mill Housing as Scraper Channel Dam Ring Table Liners Hot Gas Inlet

• Feed material fed to centre of Table

• Material passes under Rollers and is
compressed
• Material builts up to the height of the
dam ring
• Material slides over top of dam ring
and mixes with rising hot gas (on top
of nozzle ring)
• Medium to fine material is “kicked”
up into mill
• Oversize chunks fall through nozzle
ring into scraper channel and are
scraped to mill reject outlet
• Approx. 5-10 % of the material is
Nozzle Ring Scraper Lower Housing
externally re-circulated

Scraper Channel best practices

• Inspections can be carried out

through the gas duct access
door (Confined Space)
• Wear at scraper supports
should be repaired with hard-
faced welding
• The scrapers should be
checked regularly for wear
and secure mounting
• The lower housing outside
liners are subject to heavy
wear and may be hard-faced
or lined with densit within 6
months after start-up

Lower Mill Housing as Hot Gas channel Hot Gas Inlet

• The housing surrounds the table.

• It channels the hot gas into the louver /
nozzle ring
• It is air-tight by welding
• There is a labyrinth seal between the
turning table and the static housing
• The walls and floor are hard surfaced to
control wear
• The floor of the ring duct is double-
walled to stiffen the design and
providing thermal insulation towards the
gearbox below Lower Housing Critical Seal;

Maintenance Visual check:

• Bolts of Bearing covers (M/S) tight
• Scraper/Scraper Channel wear (inside)
• Cracks in Lower housing
• Table Seal (also next presentation)
• Oil accumulations or material chunks
on concrete floor
• Condition and function of Reject outlet
• Mill Anchor bolts tight
• Pedestal welding cracked
• Gearbox Foundation Bolts tight

Maintenance / Interval:
- Visual (weekly)
- Repair Cracks / Clean oil as needed
- Re-tighten Bolts as needed
- Repair worn parts
- Exchange Liners as needed
