Factors Affecting Creep of Concrete from Most to Least

1. FA/Ag (k5)
Aggregate undergoes very little creep. The past exactly response to creep. The
aggregates have the effect to restrain the magnitude of creep. Neville found that increase of
volume metric content of aggregate from 65% to 75% can reduce creep to 10%. Aggregate
with high modulus of elasticity will have less creep.

2. Air Content (k6)

The air content refer to the porosity of concrete. The air content is related to the water
cement ratio, and compaction efficiency. The higher water cement ratio will be the lower
strength because more void. In case of inappropriate compaction, the entrapped void will cause
more creep during loading.

3. Relative Humidity (k2)

The surrounding air of the concrete is the important external factor affecting creep.
Creep is higher when there is low relative humidity

4. Curing time (k1)

Same as shrinkage, curing time have effect on the creep on concrete. Inadequate curing
will induce low tensile and compressive strength of concrete which easily to crack for
shrinkage.

5. Size of member (k3)

Creep also depend on size of the member. Under drying at constant relative humidity,
creep will be small in large specimen.

6. Slump (k4)
