General description:

This course provides a survey of the ways in which economics is used to analyze and resolve problems
related to the production and consumption of energy services. The students will develop the understanding
of economic principles and tools necessary to analyse energy issues and to formulate energy policy
instruments. Emphasis will be put on the following topics: empirical analysis of the energy demand and
supply, market failures, energy policy instruments, investments in power plants and in energy efficiency
technologies and reform of the electric power sector.

E-LEARNING This course is supported by an E-learning platform. Students from ETH registered
in the first weeks of the spring semester will receive a user ID and password to
access the platform. Students registering later and students from UZH should
contact Tobias Wekhof. There are lecture notes and reference material on the
platform. Further, you will find some exercises covering the important part of the
theory from the lectures.

PREREQUISITE A course each in statistics and in microeconomics

EXAMINATION There will be a written semester end exam on June 2 , 2016 covering the topics of
the course. The definite date will be announced in the lecture. The evaluation policy
is designed to verify the knowledge acquired during the course.
