Team Project – Self-Reflection - Alisha Short

The team project was not something I am used to. I feel as though we lacked

good communication at some points. I would post a discussion and wouldn’t hear back

until a week later. This stressed me out because I’m so used to having my assignment

done on time and I always work ahead. We didn’t have our PowerPoint done until the

last day, on Wednesday. I posted the PowerPoint outline on February 18, two weeks in

advance, and asked the members to fill in their part so we wouldn’t be rushed in the

end. We were still rushed in the end. Two of the team members didn’t upload any of

their information until Tuesday and Wednesday, the day it was due. I think we could

have done a lot better with the communication aspect. We did great with the

communication within the first 2 weeks and then at the end it was a little hard to stay in

touch with them. We also set up a specific meeting time for each week, Thursdays at

6pm. The first week, 3 of us showed up and after that no one showed up at that time. I

was always on there at that time checking to see if anyone was discussing the

assignment. It was frustrating to have no contact with my team members because I

wasn’t sure how their part of the assignment was coming along. In the next group

project I hope to have a mandatory specific meeting time (members have to show up)

and have better communication overall.

Our team did great with dividing the categories of what we were supposed to do.

Everyone had their specific category or job and stuck to that. We did great at talking

about the key aspects of censorship and the Bill of Rights article we would be

discussing. We worked well at completing the assignments and helping each other
answer any questions we had. I believe I was an effective team member because I

always had my information turned in on time. I created the PowerPoint presentation

outline, created 8 slides and I always contributed to the discussions. I tried my best to

answer any questions the other members had. I tried to get the other members to be

productive and get a head start on the assignments. I always tried to make sure the

team members knew when our assignments were due. Our team talked in the group

category on the IvyLearn dashboard. Usually it would be at random times and days of

the week. We would comment on what another member said. We would post

discussions to talk about the project. We would upload files and links to webpages that

we found interesting. We posted different articles that could help with our assignment.

Everything was well organized and easy for me to find if I had to refer back to what a

member said.

This team project was a little more complicated than I thought it would be.

Hopefully in the next team group I will have a little more communication from the other

members. It was stressful because I never knew if they were keeping up with their

specific task. Emily and I would communicate back and forth and I would always ask

what else needed done. Even though we lacked communication at times, we did do a

great job on our presentation. All of our information came together well, and everyone

did a fantastic job on their tasks. The success that came from this assignment was I

learned a lot about the censorship of library materials and the Library Bill of Rights. It

was interesting learning about the different problems some libraries and their staff face.

Overall, I think my team did a good job at finishing the project.
