WHAT’S NEW

Activity 2: “Speaking Ethically”

Situation A.

1. Yes. Because the site or app itself is designed to outline a speech but this maybe won't give benefit to
George. In order for us to understand something we must do our part first because sometimes sites
can't be trusted and some computer-generated can't tell on what part of the speech is needed to be
outline.

2. Yes. If the outline speech is more polished that others, it can be visible to the teacher that the student
uses an app that outline his/her work. Some apps change the word in a more precise or sometimes
change words in a deeper meaning.

Situation B.

1. We may use some "flowery" language to make our speech more pleasant to audience who are
listening to us but we don't need to use it as a substitute in a speech. We have to make some limitations
on using it because it is only used to give color on our speech.

2. If it's "flowery" language, No. Because having an argument needs a valid evident and a strong
foundation of words or phrases to make it believable. This can he used but never use this as a substitute
because this can only be used in addition to the speech itself.

3. By showing him that people win in an argument for is knowledge and not for using this kind of
language. Maybe it was unethical but some politicians use this to have the sympathy of people. Maybe if
he gives time to his own speech rather than partying maybe he don't have to use a "flowery" language
so that he knows what will he say.

Activity 4: “Sticking to It”

Task A.

A mental illness is a physical illness of the brain that causes disturbances in thinking, behavior, energy or
emotion that make it difficult to cope with the ordinary demands of life. Research is starting to uncover
the complicated causes of these diseases which can include genetics, brain chemistry, brain structure,
experiencing trauma and/or having another medical condition, like heart disease.

Depression is very different from the occasional blues. About 12.8 million Filipinos experience
depressive disorders that affect how they sleep, eat, feel about themselves, and live their lives.
Depression can run in families, and it usually starts between the ages of 15 and 30. Depression has
physical and emotional symptoms and cannot be wished away; people with depression can't just "pull
themselves together." There are different types of depressive disorders, each with its own symptoms
and treatment options. The good news is that depression can be treated, and people can recover.

Although the general perception of mental illness has improved over the past decades, studies show
that stigma against mental illness is still powerful, largely due to media stereotypes and lack of
education, and that people tend to attach negative stigmas to mental health conditions at a far higher
rate than to other diseases and disabilities, such as cancer, diabetes or heart disease. Stigma affects not
only the number seeking treatment, but also the number of resources available for proper treatment.
Stigma and misinformation can feel like overwhelming obstacles for someone who is struggling with a
mental health condition.

This campaign continues to improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of youths in our community and
it is important that we continue to build on it to ensure that those suffering from mental illness do not
have to suffer alone. Because by building greater understanding across all cultures and communities, we
can ensure that every youth can discover a "Winning Way to Wellbeing". I am sure you will agree that
Mental Health Awareness is vitally important in raising awareness of the continuing need to make
mental health a priority for all people.
Task B.

General Purpose: To inform the youth about the importance of mental health awareness

“Healing takes time, and asking for help is a courageous step.” Mariska Hargitay once said. I've
attended a number of mental health conferences, and now I'm here to share what I've learned with you.
As a consequence, we will all be aware of the value of our mental wellbeing.

Despite the fact that public perceptions of mental illness have changed in recent decades,
studies indicate that stigma against mental illness remains strong, owing in part to media myths and a
lack of education, and that people attach negative stigmas to mental health conditions at a much higher
rate than they do to other diseases and disabilities such as cancer, diabetes, or heart disease. Stigma has
an impact not only on the number of people seeking care, but also on the services available for effective
treatment. For those suffering from a mental disorder, stigma and misinformation may seem like
insurmountable barriers.

Hundreds of thousands of youths in our society have benefited from this movement, and it is
important that we continue to build on it so that those suffering from mental illness do not have to
suffer alone. That we will ensure that every youth will discover a "Winning Way to Wellbeing" by
fostering greater awareness of all cultures and societies. I'm sure you'll accept that Mental Health
Awareness Month is crucial in raising awareness of the ongoing need for everyone to prioritize mental
health.

What I Can Do

Activity 6: “Getting Critical”

“I have a dream” speech was given by Martin Luther King on 28th August 1963. There was an
audience of about 250,000 people at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington where the speech was given.
This speech was mainly based on the freedom for the blacks referred to as Negros. He was much
concerned about the oppression and exploitation of the black Americans at that time and he wished
that people would understand that they were all equal.

In the course of delivering his speech, Martin Luther King said, “I am happy to join with you
today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our
nation.” This statement as he said has remained in our times and this is what has been happening all
over the world. People are fighting for their freedom. He viewed it as an end to all oppression that was
continuously being witnessed. This is a sign of new life of freedom and equality.

Martin Luther King’s Speech remains important in modern society. It consists of well-founded
goals which if well addressed will take many countries up the ladder. However, critics will always be
there to search for the wrongs.
Activity 7: “Valuing the Most Valued”

The point Mr. Dyson makes about the possibility for a career to bounce back is something I keep
in mind. Not to be misinterpreted as an excuse for lack of effort but as a reminder not to neglect other
elements in life as they’re much more challenging to repair.

It helps me prioritize, that striving for better does not mean going full throttle in one aspect of
life all the time. That work allows for failure and setbacks, whereas in any of the other elements of life it
can put your life on hold. To understand the difference between losing your job or being diagnosed with
a severe illness. One is distinctly worse. To miss out on events in your child’s life or to receive negative
feedback. One you can improve, the other you’ll never get back.

To me, this gave the “The Five Balls of Life Speech” more meaning than it already had. There is
no way I’m going to live like that. What kind of life are you chasing if it can become so insignificant
within an instance? I’m not arguing that it’s OK to cut corners when it comes to work but to be aware
that there are instances to prioritize other elements of your life.
