Thesis: Mental Health during the Pandemic

I. Nature and importance of Mental Health
A. Mental Health
1. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It
affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle
stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.
B. Importance of Mental Health
1. Mental and physical health are equally important components of overall
health. Mental illness, especially depression, increases the risk for many
types of physical health problems, particularly long-lasting conditions like
stroke, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Similarly, the presence of chronic
conditions can increase the risk for mental illness.
II. Symptoms of failing Mental Health
A. Feeling depressed or unhappy
1. Signs of depression include being sad or irritable for the last few weeks or
more, lacking in motivation and energy, losing interest in a hobby or being
teary all the time.
B. Emotional outbursts
1. Everyone has different moods, but sudden and dramatic changes in mood,
such as extreme distress or anger, can be a symptom of mental illness.
C. Sleep problems
1. Lasting changes to a person’s sleep patterns could be a symptom of a mental
health disorder. Sleeping too much or too little could indicate depression or
an sleeping disorder.
D. Feeling guilty or worthless
1. Thoughts like ‘I’m a failure’, ‘It’s my fault’ or ‘I’m worthless’ are all possible
signs of a mental health disorder, such as depression. Your friend or loved one
may need help if they’re frequently criticising or blaming themselves. When
severe, a person may express a feeling to hurt or kill themselves.
III. Strategies in protecting one’s mental health during the pandemic.
A. Recognize that your anxiety is completely normal
1. Although anxiety about coronavirus is completely normal, make sure “to
get information from reliable sources [such as UNICEF and World Health
Organization], or to check any information coming through less reliable
channels”, Dr. Damour advises. If you are worried that you may have the
symptoms, it is important that you tell your parents/guardians about it.
B. Find a distraction
1. “Psychologists know that when people are in chronically difficult conditions
it’s helpful to divide the problem into two categories: things they can do
something about, and then things they can do nothing about”, says Dr.
Damour.
C. Find new ways to connect with friends
1. If you want to spend time with your friends while limiting your face time,
social media are a great way to connect. Be creative: join TikTok challenges
such as #safehands.
2.
What I have Learned
1. I never thought that there were many so many features of effective
communication. I always thought that if we talk to someone then, it is what you
called communication and that is it, no features.
2. After taking up on this lesson I learned about the different strategies in selecting
and organizing information brainstorming, using graphic organizers, and
outlining. I also learned how to use each one of the strategies which greatly
improve my understanding in this particular subject.

accessible, efficient, orderly
manner
In an interview given on Saturday, April 17, Go pointed out the significant role played by
the media in disseminating information about the pandemic to the public. He pointed
out that media workers, especially field reporters, put their health and safety at risk in
order to keep Filipinos informed about the country’s current situation.
 Definition
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered
coronavirus.
Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate
respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older
people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease,
diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop
serious illness.
The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the
COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and
others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub
frequently and not touching your face.

Cayetano expects new POC to inspire athletes

He expressed optimism that under Tolentino’s leadership, the Philippines will sustain
the “legacy of winning” it had regained during the 30th SEA Games.
“I am confident that the power of collaboration and our strength as Filipino people,
which lies in fighting as one and winning as one and which we rediscovered during the
SEA Games, will sustain its momentum,” Cayetano said.

“On matters related to substance use prevention, education alone is not enough. In their classes, we
teach our learners how to reject harmful substances. Outside these classes, we need policies and
structures that will help reinforce our learners’ health-promoting choices, complementing what we
teach them in school,” Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones in her statement of support, in time for the
public hearing on the provisions of the Vaporized Nicotine Products Regulation Act.

 Cause and Effect

Malnutrition is a world
health crisis
Millions of people are suffering from different forms of malnutrition. In fact, 1.9 billion
adults are overweight or obese while 462 million are underweight. Among children, 52
million under-fives are suffering from wasting, where they have a low weight for height.

Around one in ten children are born with low birth weight, and in South Asia, it is one in
four, and approximately 45% of deaths among children under five are linked to
undernutrition. These deaths often occur in low- and middle-income countries where
childhood obesity levels are rising at the same time.

"Nutrition is the main cause of death and disease in the world." Dr Branca says the
developmental, economic, social and medical impacts of malnutrition are serious and
lasting. Events such as World Food Day (October 16) and International Day for the
Eradication of Poverty (October 17) will raise awareness of the problem.

3. Write a minimum of one paragraph employing each of the text
structures discussed (one pattern, one paragraph). Be guided by the
following prompts
a. NARRATION
During the long months off from school, I fixed and cleaned my
room on a regular basis to keep things in order. I set up my study
area so that when class resumes, I will be prepared. I organized my
reading materials and household chores into a schedule. I watch
movies and animes to keep me motivated in the midst of pandemic.
b. DEFINITION
ECQ - The enhanced community quarantine in Luzon was a series of
stay-at-home orders and cordon sanitaire measures implemented by
the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases on the
island of Luzon and its associated islands.
MECQ - People will be allowed to leave their homes only to obtain
essential goods and go to work in industries allowed to resume by the
government. Essential industries allowed under ECQ will continue to be
allowed like health care, pharmacies, veterinary clinics, food
manufacturing and supply chains, and groceries. But there will be an
addition to these allowed industries

MGCQ - Modified GCQ: Work resumes in private and public sector at 100%
capacity but with enforcement of mask-wearing, physical distancing, and
other health protocols.Movement goes back to normal but mask-wearing,
physical distancing, and other health protocols will be enforced.
GCQ - The general community quarantine (GCQ), which was introduced on
May 1, is generally less stringent than ECQ. Public transportation is allowed
at a reduced capacity and select businesses are allowed to operate at 50 to
100 percent of their regular capacity depending on their industry.
c. DESCRIPTION
One effect is the lockdowns and quarantine restrictions. This makes it
harder for people to move from place to place and it can result to people
not being able to work to feed their families. Another result of the
lockdown and quarantine restrictions is it makes it more dangerous for
people to travel especially via public transportation because you never
know if the handrail that you are touching is already infected.

d. COMPARE AND CONTRAST

The similarities in the local educational setup before and after the global
pandemic is that we are still studying even though we are facing a deadly
pandemic and parents are in our side for support and giving our needs.
While the difference is our way of learning which is now digitalized. Online
class. Blended, modular. because of this pandemic we are suffering this
kind of new normal. We will have many possible problems in this kind of
learning system like slow connection. loaded requirements. No time for
your other things you want to do and the distraction of our environment
like noise and lack of study place.

e. SEQUENCE

1st Wet hands with warm water

2nd Apply a generous amount of soap and lather hands well.

3rd Rub hands together for 20 seconds, paying special attention to the areas
between fingers and under nails.
4th Rinse hands thoroughly with warm water.
5th Dry hands with a disposable towel.
6th Use the disposable towel to turn off the faucet and open the door.
f. CAUSE AND EFFECT
Because of Lack of discipline and an incompetent government. A lot of
people keeps on going out from their homes even if they do not have do
anything outside and neglecting the safety protocols which are Wearing
Face Mask and Social Distancing. This leads to increase of COVID cases.
g. PROBLEM AND SOLUTION
Distance learning does not give students the opportunity to work on oral
communication skills. Students in distance learning courses do not get
the practice of verbal interaction with professors and other students.
Social isolation. Most often you'll be studying alone.
Teachers may experience a hard time expressing instructional content to
their pupils, especially long and complex assignments or assessments.
The physical distance also proposed a difficulty in obtaining students'
level of understanding in terms of course content.

The only possible solution for this problem is to cure COVID 19 and
return to normal classes.
What I have Leaned
1. Before the lesson, I did not know about the different patterns by which
ideas are develop and what is the use of each pattern.
2. After taking up this lesson, I learned the different pattern which ideas are
develop and how to use them in writing.

What I Can Do
it is important because It gives students a specific purpose for reading. Different
kinds of texts are organized differently because they are to be read differently. It
helps the Student understand what is important in the text. Knowing the text
structure helps Students to comprehend, looking for important topics and ideas
so that they can retell and summarize the text. Once a student understands what
the overall text structure is, he is better able to retell the story or summarize the
text because he uses the structure of the text to guide his retelling.
