​ Initiative Journal 

Initiative is the ability to be resourceful and work without always being told what to do. When you 
use your initiative you do things without being asked. People who show initiative demonstrate they 
can think for themselves and take action when necessary. It means using your head, and having the 
drive to achieve. It is important because it will make you get ahead of life. Whether you use initiative to 
catch a problem in a product or think of a way to market something for better results.The traditional 
example is taking leadership of a group situation: being the person who steps up to lead the team and 
knows how to get the most out of everybody else. Initiative and creativity move the world. 
 
This week I have practiced initiative by doing something that no one wanted to do which was say a 
speech at my temple. Without my tamil teacher asking me to make a speech for navarathri I 
volunteered to do it all by myself. This helped me boost my confidence and self awareness. At the end 
I got a good reputation from my teacher and everyone congratulated to me for my initiative. It was a 
good opportunity for me take initiative and set a good example by being a role model for the little kids 
at the temple. I would rate myself 8 out of 10 for my initiative. Something I could have improved on is 
doing this every week and volunteer for the temple and other service projects. Want to grow into a 
helpful person like Mother teresa and help the needy without others asking. Especially when she gave o 
thisservice to people with leprosy. They had no one to who could take care of them except Mother 
teresa. This tells me that each person themselves can make a huge impact this world.
