TYPES OF EDUCATIONAL PROFESSIONS

The types of professions in the field of education are divided into two, namely educators and
educational personnel. According to the National Education System Law No. 20 of 2003,
especially Chapter I Article 1 paragraph (5) states that education personnel are members of the
community who devote themselves and appointed to support the implementation of education.
Furthermore, in paragraph (6) explained educators are qualified educational personnel as
teachers, lecturers, counselors, pamong learning, widyaiswara, tutors, instructors, facilitators
and other designations in accordance with their specificity, as well as participate in organizing
education.
1. EDUCATION STAFF
People who participate in the implementation of education in the education unit, although
indirectly involved in the educational process, include:

1. Head of Education
Unit, i.e. the person who is authorized and responsible to lead the education unit. The
Head of Education Unit must be able to carry out his role and duties as an educator,
manager, administrator, supervisor, leader, innovator, motivator, figure and mediator
(Emaslim-FM) Other terms for the Head of Education Unit are:
2. Principal
The principal is a leader in a school and is a top-level manager of an educational
organization (especially elementary, junior high, high school or vocational school). The
principal has two main roles, firstly as an institutional leader for teachers, and the
second to provide leadership in management
3. Rector
Rector in Indonesian language is interpreted as the leader of a higher education
institution. In the National Education System Law 2009 (SISDIKNAS Law), rector is the
highest leader of universities that are obliged to advance science in each institution
through education and research, as well as make maximum contribution to broad
decent things.
4. Deputy / Head of
5. Affairs, generally educators who have additional tasks in a special field, to assist the
Head of Education Unit in the implementation of education at the institution. Example:
Head of Curriculum Affairs
6. Administration, is an Educational Worker who is in charge of the administration of the
agency. The administrative fields are managed among others;
Administration of correspondence and archiving,
Staffing Administration,
Student Administration,
Financial Administration,
Inventory Administration and others.
7. Laboran, is a special officer in charge of tools and materials in the Laboratory
8. A librarian is someone who works in a library and helps people find books, magazines,
and other information.

 Educators
Educators or in Indonesia better known as teachers, are educational personnel who participate
in organizing education with a special task as a profession educator. Educators have other
designations according to their specificity, namely:

1. Teacher
According to Law No. 14/2005, on Teachers and Lecturers. In Chapter I of Article 1, Teachers are
professional educators with the primary duties of educators, teaching, guiding, directing,
training, assessing, and evaluating learners on early childhood education pathways of formal
education, primary education, and secondary education.

2. Lecturer
According to Law No. 14/2005, on Teachers and Lecturers. In Chapter I article 1, lecturers are
professional educators and scientists with the main task of transforming, developing, and
disseminating science, technology, and the arts through education, research, and community
service.

3. Counselor
According to Law No. 20 of 2003 states counsellors are educators and in the Regulation of the
Minister of National Education No. 22 of 2005 suggests counsellors are implementers of
counseling services in schools.

Counsellor is a person who has expertise in conducting counseling. Background in education at


least bachelor's degree (S1) from the department of Psychology Education and Guidance (PPB),
Counseling Guidance (BK), or Counseling Guidance (BP). Has a professional organization called
the Indonesian Counseling Guidance Association (ABKIN).

4. Pamong Learning
According to Permenpan dan RB (Regulation of the Minister of Empowerment and Bureaucratic
Reform) No. 15 of 2012, Pamong Belajar is an educator with the main task of conducting
teaching and learning activities, program assessment, and development of nonformal and
informal education models (PNFI) in technical implementation units (UPT) or regional technical
implementation units (UPTD) and PNFI units. Pamong belajar is a career position that can only
be occupied by someone who has been a civil servant. PNFI is now renamed PAUDNI
(Nonformal and Informal Early Childhood Education)

5. Widyaiswara
Widyaiswara is a civil servant (PNS) appointed as a functional official by authorized officials with
duties, responsibilities, authority to educate, teach, and / or train civil servants (civil servants) in
educational institutions and training (training) government.

6. Tutor
Tutors are people who teach or people who facilitate the learning process in learning groups
(Chairudin Samosir, 2006:15). Tutors are mentors and motivating students to learn the teaching
materials presented in the learning module for themselves.

Tutors can come from teachers or teachers, coaches, structural officials, or even students
selected and assigned teachers to assist their peers in learning in the classroom. (Hamalik in Abi
Masiku, 2013).

7. Instructor
The instructor is the one who is in charge of teaching something and at the same time giving his
training and guidance; teachers; trainer; nanny (KBBI online)

8. Facilitator
A facilitator is someone who helps a group of people understand their common goals and helps
them make plans to achieve goals. The task of the facilitator in a learning process essentially
leads the learner to discover for themselves the content or materials offered or provided
through or by his own invention.
