Technology Transfer

Technology transfer is the transfer of any technology

between organisations or people or between any organisation and people or vice versa. This
can even happen between universities or so. It helps in the wide opening of the growth of
science and technology all over the globe. Mostly if some sort of innovation needed to be
taken care with a patent , transfer of technology helps. It also helps in widening of
opportunities as well.

National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) is a

premier Knowledge Transfer Organisation (KTO) in India. It has commercialized technology
in India and abroad, as well as exported technologies, turnkey ventures, and services to
developed and developing countries alike. NRDC has taken on the task of obtaining,
reviewing, improving, and transmitting technologies developed at various national
laboratories, regardless of their stage of development. One of the most significant roles of
NRDC has been to ensure that worthwhile inventions, whether from national laboratories,
private inventors, small companies, or emerging university innovators, do not go unnoticed or
unrecognized. It normally helps with organisations which has unrecognised abilities and
make them protected as well as to make them useful for other organisations or universities,
whoever is requiring it.

From case 4, the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar

was funded to undertake the research and develop the vaccine against PPR. The technology
relates to development of vaccine against Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) using a lineage 4
virus isolated in India. The developed vaccine was tried on animals at laboratory level and
then at state level. The technology was transferred to NRDC for commercialization.
However, the developed technology required further development for industrial use. With the
PPR vaccine, the disease can be controlled in the country's 200 million small ruminant
populations. This, in turn, will boost small ruminant production and profitability, particularly
for small and marginal farmers. Controlling the disease would also assist in the expansion of
small ruminant trade. Exporting the vaccine to neighbouring Asian countries where viruses
are prominent may also help the country. This is how the transfer of technology helps, that
too when commercialised by NRDC, increases the benefits for the country as well as the
neighbouring countries
