the beginning of the relationship, it was decent. After, a few months, the relationship was toxic. Logan
wanted her to work hard labors, just like him. Without a care in the world about her feelings, but she had
enough of that, and left him to go back home to find her dream life with a person she truly loves.

matter. Joe would always talk down to Janie, and never seeing her point of view. Always, stopping her for
achieving her dreams for a better life.

3. At the beginning of each relationship’s deterioration, the Narrator refers to the disappearance of rhymes
from their conversations. What does this mean? Why does it happen with both men?
Janie soon realizes that both men, that she has married were stopping for accomplishing her dreams of a life
that is best suited with the right person. Nether of the men Joe, or Logan were the right men to achieve a
happy life with Janie, and so the love between them all was lost, and with it a future with either of the men.

4. What does the mule-baiting incident show you about human nature? Can you think of something in your
experience as a human to compare it to?
These people try to understand the role that they are living in right now in the world, and now that
everyone is laughing at the poor mule, dying of old age. It’s the dark side of humanity, and how the people
see things that are underneath them, by showing the people laughing at the mule.
