Mode (ADM) Module on Recognizing the Common Terms
in English Relating to Parts of Book Orientation.

This module was collaboratively designed,


developed and reviewed by educators both from public
and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or
facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set
by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal,
social, and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners


into guided and independent learning activities at their
own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking
into consideration their needs and circumstances.

situations. The language used recognizes the diverse

the textbook you are now using.

discussions, illustrations, activities and assessments.

What Is It

It is very important to know the parts of a book. It helps


learners or readers familiarize where to find the information
they are really looking for.

A book has beginning parts: these are the front cover,


title page, copyright page, preface and table of contents.
It has also a body which covers the main content of a book.
The ending parts of a book include the glossary and index.

Study the illustrations below and the meaning of each


part.

front cover

● The front cover tells the title and author or authors. It
also protects the inside pages of a book.

title page
● The title page gives the full title of a book, the publisher
and the author or authors.

copyright page
● Copyright page provides information of the name of

the writer/s, the publisher, the date and the place of

printing.

Preface
The preface is a short message from the writer or writers. It
also tells the whole part of a book.

● The table of contents is a list of units, title and pages.

● The body is the inside pages of a book or the main

content of a book.

● The glossary is like a little dictionary. It lists words

alphabetically with their meanings.
