Why do you think a team should undergo the five stages of group development? Explain
your answer in not less than 10 sentences.

As being a leader of a certain team especially in schoolwork’s and being one of the NSTP
student of Ms. Alathea S. Jimenez, I think that a team should undergo the five stages of a group
development. Why? From the first stage, based on the module, the first stage is Forming stage. In
this stage, each member of the team will introduce themselves among of them. Each member of
the team may discuss their strengths and weaknesses and skill, and background and their interests
which they may found if they have similarities. In this first stage, the team can also discuss their
goals and objectives for their project. Also, in this stage, the role and responsibility of each member
will occur. This stage will mainly focus more on the people than your project since it is the first
stage of group development.

The second stage of group development that a team should undergo is Storming stage. In
this stage, each member may start to extract their feelings to others, but they still see themselves
as an individual rather than being part of the team. Members in a team might have a conflict in
completing their tasks. A leader of a team must say to its members that having a disagreement on
a team is normal, and it is part of making a great team. A member of a team may ask a guidance
from their respective leader.

Norming stage are the third stage that a team should undergo. In this stage of group
development, members of the team will start to appreciate their colleagues and their strengths
which helps their team to develop. Each member will have their contribution for their tasks so that
they will enable to accomplish it. Storming stage sometimes may overlap with norming stage due
to the reason that there are some instances that new tasks will be given to them which may also
result to some conflicts in a team. In this stage, there are a greater involvement of team members,
they more overly think as “we” rather than “I”.

The fourth stage that a team should undergo is Performing stage. In this stage, members of
a team will be confident, motivated and familiar enough with the project that they have done doing
it. The team can perform without the supervision of their leader. There are fully – motivated to
accomplish their task. Also, in this stage, the members of a team are in a zone wherein they give
all their focus on performing their finished project.

The last but not the least stage that a team should undergo is the adjourning stage. In the
last stage of group development, the finished project that the team has accomplished has come to
an end. A team will conduct an assessment and will implement a plan for transitioning roles and
each member of the team will recognize each contribution and efforts to their project. The team
will now moving off in different directions since this is the last stage and their project has come to
an end.

Therefore, as being a member of a team, a team should undergo in the five stages of group
development so that their team will grow, and each member of the team will benefit from it. The
five stages of development are significant for a team. With the help of stages of group
development, a team will know their strengths and weaknesses and skills and what are the things
that they need to improve and change as a team.
