High range water reducing super-plasticizer for
high strength concrete and concrete containing
high proportion of GGBS, FA and silica fume
DESCRIPTION
Mapefluid R 440 is a chloride free super-plasticizing
admixture based on synthetic polymers to produce high
quality durable concrete.
ADVANTAGES
Mapefluid R 440 reduces the water/cement ratio with
excellent improvements in both fresh and hardened
concrete properties. It is particularly designed for
meeting all the specifications required for high content
GGBS, PFA and silica fume mixes. Mapefluid R 440
considerably improves fresh and hardened concrete
properties maintaining long slump retention particularly
in hot climatic conditions:
• dramatically improves early and ultimate compressive
strengths and enhances durability;
• improves cohesiveness and pumpability whilst
minimising segregation and bleed;
• extends vibration time and minimises the possibility of
cold joints in rafts and mass concrete pours;
• optimises cement content and water addition whilst
maintaining the compressive strength and workability
thereby contributing to reduced carbon footprint of
the concrete mix;
• chloride-free;
• long distance transportation;
• extended workability particularly for hot weather
concreting;
• improves concrete surface finishing;
• reduces exotherm in mass concrete.

WHERE TO USE
• Ready mix concrete where extended workability
retention is required.
• Pouring in hot climates.
• Fly ash, silica fume and GGBS blended concretes
either as a stand alone admixture or in combination
with other products from the MAPEI range such as
Mapeplast admixtures.
• Mass concrete pours with improved cohesion.
• Piling mixes.
• Raft foundations.
DOSAGE
From 0.5 tp 1.2 litres every 100 kg of total cementitious
materials.
Dosages outside this range can be considered subject
to trials. For high performance concrete a dosage
between 1.0-2.0 litres/100 kg of total cementitious
materials may be considered subject to trials, in addition
to consulting Mapei Technical Services Department.
EFFECT OF OVERDOSING
An overdose of Mapefluid R 440 will result in an
increase in retardation. In case of overdosage,
good concrete practices such as curing and delay
of de-shuttering must be followed. The ultimate
strength of concrete will not be adversely affected
by over retardation and will generally be increased.
The retardation effect of an overdose will be more
pronounced with Sulphate Resistant Cement mixes.

DISPENSING
Mapefluid R 440 is a ready to use liquid which
should be added to the concrete mix using
a recommended dispenser. To maximize
the effect of the admixture we suggest the
admixture is added subsequent to adding
50-70% of the mixing water. All admixtures
are to be added to the concrete mix using
a calibrated automatic dispenser. Where
multiple admixtures are used in the same mix,
they must be added separately to the mix.

COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER MAPEI
PRODUCTS
Mapefluid R 440 is compatible with other
MAPEI products for preparing special
concretes, particularly with:
• retarding plasticizer from Mapeplast range
• viscosity modifying agent for improving
concrete pumpability from Viscostar and
Viscofluid range;
• Mapeplast SF, a silica fume based
powder for reinforcement protection from
corrosion and high durability concretes in
all aggressive and marine environments;
• Expancrete, expansive agent for producing
shrinkage compensating concretes;
• Mapetard range, retarding admixture for
producing very long slump retention in very
hot climates.

SPILLAGE AND DISPOSAL

PACKAGING
Mapefluid R 440 is normally supplied in bulk,
however, on request, it may also be provided
in 275 kg drums and 1000 litre totes.
STORAGE
Mapefluid R 440 can be stored for 12 months
in sealed containers. Protect from frost.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION
Mapefluid R 440 is not considered hazardous
according to the current regulation regarding
the classification of mixtures. It is however
recommended to use gloves, eye protection
and to take the usual precautions when
handling chemical products.
