JANUARY JOURNAL

So far, I have learned that art can take many forms, from paintings to sculpture to
music. And it is unique in its ability to tell a story, touch people in different ways, create
a connection, and make us human. We can also learn to really see, to use our eyes,
and take in what is there for us to look at. I also learned how to appreciate art, even in a
simple or small way. In the worksheet activities, I gain a lot of realizations that art is
literary everywhere. That we can see art in school, in church, in the museum &, etc.,
even in our humble homes. Actually, when I'm making the 1st worksheet activity, I find it
so difficult because I don't know if there's a part of our house considered an art.
Because we aren't an artistic family, and my parents don't also love paintings and all
that. In the end, I'm happy that even though our home isn't that beautiful, there's still an
art that I can call on my own. Because of this, I begin to appreciate art even in the
simplest way. I also learned how to make ukkil design and how to appreciate art in its
creative expression.
It was also exciting to know that art also has its own vocabulary and grammar.
And I have only learned that through this subject. This vocabulary is what they called
"elements," while its grammar or rules for putting things together is what they called
"composition." It's fascinating for me to know these since I am not into art. Further, I
have learned that line, color, shape, and texture are some of the elements of design that
exist and are mostly used in any form of art. But, among all the elements of art &
design, the color element is the most important for me in interpreting art and since color
is always be used in an artist's work for the most part. The color is perceived in mind
and is correlated with temperature. If we are hot, the color red may come to mind or the
color blue when we feel sad. Our ideas on color can also be brought about by the things
we have experienced or been exposed to. Like, if we were to paint the sun, it would
probably be in the color of yellow. Because the sun is warm, and we would perceive
yellow to be a warm color. And since we are surrounded by color, we can easily tell
when something does not work. That's why the color choices in a painting can bring it to
life or destroy it. Thus, picking colors can be difficult because there are so many to
choose from.
Additionally, going through the lesson, I am most captivated by non-
representational abstract art because the artist uses fascinating color palettes. Although
I may not understand the abstract piece, the colors exhibited can excite my emotions
and bring me serenity & peace. In the given examples, the colors in an abstract piece
make me wonder how and why the artist came up with the color combinations. Thus, I
have learned that it is an individual perception of how one interprets color—some base
it on culture, experience, character, or even nature.
