What is your definition of Art? My definition of Art is broad. I think that Art has more to do with

how something makes you feel than what people perceive as Art.

What do you know about the arts? Art can be defined as anything that promotes an emotional

response. It can be physical, mental, or visual.

What is your experience as a visual artist? I can draw stick figures and bubble puppies, and I like

to make three-dimensional shapes. I also want to doodle, so I think that being a visual artist

means using your vision.

What do you remember about your art lessons from elementary school? Elementary school was a

long time ago, and I do not remember anything much, but I remember that we used paints and

crayons a lot, and markers were not available much. They were costly when I was a kid

What courses in Art have you taken since? I have not taken any art classes, not because I don’t

want to use my artistic side but because I just have not had the need or opportunity to.

What skills would you like to acquire in art production during this class? I would like to know

how to incorporate Art so that kids are using their brains and not just drawing or coloring

premade pictures.

What knowledge would you like to acquire about art history and art criticism? Honestly, I have

no expectations about the past or the fuss involved in learning about Art.

What are your experiences with art museums?  When I went to an art museum, it was not

entirely just an art museum; it was more of a section of Art in a museum. I liked sitting and

looking at the painting, trying to understand what the artist was trying to express.

Who is your favorite artist? Why?   I will have to tell you that my 11-year-old son is my favorite

artist for obvious reasons. But as for a famous artist, I think that my favorite artist is Thomas

Kincade. I love the landscapes that he paints as well as the colors that are in his paintings.

Why would elementary students need to study Art? Art and drawing can be a way for students to

relax their minds.

What components or disciplines should be included in the elementary art curriculum? I think that

3D drawing should be included, as well as expression. This can help kids who have difficulty

talking verbally but can express themselves visually.

How much time each week should be devoted to art instruction? I think that there should be at

least an hour a week dedicated to helping students learn to use Art.

How do you plan to incorporate Art into your future classroom? Currently, I use one-point and

two-point perspective drawing as a reward for students who complete their assigned work. I also

allow them to have free time that they earn during the week to draw or color to relax and express

themselves.
