From watching the presentation by the former Bupati of Banyuwangi, Mr Abdullah

Azwar Anas, from his experience of developing the tourism industry of Banyuwangi
during his 10 years duty as the Bupati of Banyuwangi, I can obtain several program or
action which implemented on the basis of the tourism industry in Banyuwangi that have
a relation with sustainable tourism and also the spirit of the UN SDGs.

I would like to summarize the presentation into several UN SDGs that I think related to
the implementation in the tourism sector and in the governments of Banyuwangi, the
SDGs are:
- SDG 1: No Poverty
SDG 1 has the spirit of creating a world with no poverty. As mentioned in the
presentation and during the webinar, Banyuwangi has successfully decreased the
poverty rate during the 10 years leadership of Mr Abdullah Azwar Anas, mostly thanks
to the government radical and accelerate growth in the tourism sector. The development
of the tourism sector brings a lot of job opportunities which help Banyuwangi decrease
the poverty rate in relation to that issue.
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well Being
With the development of Banyuwangi, the development of their tourism sector, and the
leadership of the government, Banyuwangi try to change its mindset to become a better
area in all aspect. The development of tourism help reduce poverty by providing
numerous job opportunities, improve the economic condition of the people and also
changes the awareness of the government. Health and well being are important, as
shown in the presentation, the creative collaboration concept of the Banyuwangi’s
government are also focusing on something related to this SGD, such as the Siswa
Asuh Sebaya (SAS) Kesehatan and Pegunakan Jamban Sehat, Rakyat Aman
(Pujasera) program.
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Related to tourism industry development and the decrease of poverty rate, shows now
Banyuwangi able to provide better decent job opportunities for their people which help
create a better economic growth which could be shown by the increase of purchasing
power average of the Banyuwangi people.
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
The concept of sustainable tourism is one of the implementation spirits of SDG 9.
Banyuwangi development in the industry of tourism which accelerated during the past
10 years could not be like that without the support of innovation and infrastructure
development in the area. Innovation and Collaboration are the keys to this
improvement. Mr Agung Wicaksono also said during the webinar that Banyuwangi
accelerated into the 4.0 city with all the effort during the past 10 years, especially the
innovation and collaboration.
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Banyuwangi government in the past 10 years evolve into something different compared
to the past history of the regional area. Banyuwangi becomes a 4.0 city with innovation
in bureaucracy and also in supporting the people of Banyuwangi. It shows also that
Banyuwangi put their concern on achieving sustainable cities and communities, as in
the webinar there is some program such as the Festival Toilet dan Kali Bersih which has
the spirit of SGD 3 and SGD 11.
- SGD 15: Life on Land
Many program and activities are being done by the government and people of
Banyuwangi to support their Ecotourism concept. Protecting the environment especially
life on land are some of the examples. Banyuwangi have Cagar Biosfer Blambangan
and also 3 national parks (Baluran, Meru Betiris, Alas Purwo) which help the spirit of
SGD 15. Banyuwangi also in the progress of collaborating with UNESCO to become
one of the Geological Park acknowledged by the UNESCO
