My Way of Life
I know what you want me to say, “Back in 2011, a 7-year-old child dreamt of becoming a
surgeon” but that was not the case in my book of life. I dreamt of staying a child, I wish that I
could stay little and play with my barbies, legos, and my kitchen set forever. Now of course I
would pretend to be so many different things whenever I wanted.Yes, I was THAT kid that would
play house with my baby dolls and fake money, then after dinner, I would pretend I was a chef at
“Keanna’s Grill” but honestly, I was truly living my dream. When I started high school that all
changed drastically and something that I never thought would happen took over the whole world.
A disease known as the “Coronavirus” or “Covid-19”, first appeared in China and made it
everywhere else in the world. When I first heard of the Coronavirus I was sitting in my
11th-grade botany class, to say the least, it was an absolute joke to everyone in the beginning.
Some people started wearing face masks and others didn’t, it became known to everyone when
people were getting sick, and some even died from it. It started to get serious when our Governor
put everyone on a stay-at-home order in March of 2020. We couldn't go to school or work, kids
couldn’t even play on public playgrounds. This has changed my life and has made my senior
year a bumpy roller coaster from having to wear masks during sports to learning from a
computer screen. One year later, this became the new normal. I haven’t sat at a school desk in
over a year. Even though all that has happened, I still drive myself to graduate high school and to

start college, I believe that no matter what happens I will still be able to be the person that I have
Who am I? I mean who am I really? Well, my name is Keanna Lynn DesArmo. I was
born on November 13, 2003. I am the daughter of a U.S. Soldier and a current Shipt Shopper.
My first four years of my life, I grew up in Michigan where both my brother and I were born.
When my mom and dad got married we started moving around to a new home every two to four
years. I grew up with one brother and four amazing pets. Over the years throughout my
childhood and pre-teen years, I had multiple different career paths that I swore were my passions,
from wanting to be a chef to a surgeon to an actor but none of those stayed with me. I started
dreaming about working in the medical field since I was in middle school, I just didn’t know
what exactly I wanted to do but recently in the last two years it came to me. In about 11th grade,
I started wanting to become some type of nurse, more specifically a nurse that worked with
babies and/or mothers. I want to help people and be there for them and their families.
When we are young it is impossible to not run into the question “What do you want to be
when you grow up?”, I would say that “I want to be a superhero, princess, to be able to fly”, or
even to be a singer but now when someone asks me that million-dollar question I say that I want
to become a Nurse, more specifically a Nurse that works in pediatrics. Ever since I was young, I
have always had this fairytale-like dream because life itself was so easy going but now that I
have grown up, all of that has changed. Over the years my mom has been my number one person
and my true inspiration for the person I hope to be, she has taught me that life is not what I
thought it was going to be, and is not always going to be easy going or a fairytale. She is
hardworking, committed, loving, and takes care of everyone before herself. Even though I didn’t
grow up with any younger siblings nor do I have a big immediate family, I have always been

super family-oriented and have been in love with babies, I think that they are the greatest
blessing on earth and I knew that I wanted to work with them in my future career.
I have a basic plan to become the person that I have always wanted to be. First I plan to
complete all the things that I need to finish high school. I have not yet decided on what college I
want to attend but after graduating high school I do plan to go to college and start on my
prerequisites. While attending college I plan to either get a job working as a phlebotomist or
even a nurse tech to get experience in the medical field and to be able to experience working
with patients and their families to get an idea of what it is going to be like working under such
circumstances. I think that will allow me to get experience so that I know if I even will like
working in a place like a hospital and will officially help me decide if I want to further my
education in that field. After finishing my prerequisites and feel that I still want to continue to
become a nurse, I plan to be enrolled in a nursing program, complete all requirements, and study
hard to graduate from a four-year bachelor's program. My family is fully supportive of what my
plans are to achieve my set goals. I want to accomplish my goals and become a smart,
hard-working nurse, and to do that I need to focus and not get caught up in anything other than
To wrap everything up, over the years I have come to realize that my future career has
changed a lot and over the years. I have grown to notice that my future career is not anything to
be rushed in and that it takes time to know the career that will make me happy. That being said, I
have started to take an interest in what nursing is and what nurses do for people and their
families. With the support from my family, I plan to finish all of the requirements, schooling, and
