Unit 1 Topic 3: Reflection #2

Do you think that authentic assessment deviates largely from traditional assessment? Could
there be a common ground where these two assessment approaches can stand?

Authentic assessment and traditional assessment, in my opinion, are not that dissimilar. These
two are used to collect relevant information about a student's success or progress, as well as to
assess a student's priorities in order to make a decision about the learning process. However,
authentic assessment has many advantages over traditional assessment in my opinion,
especially for learning outcomes that necessitate authentic assessment that require higher
order thinking skills. Traditional and authentic assessment can be mixed, but the most critical
aspect to remember is that the student has enough experiences to be able to adapt their
learning to authentic assessment criteria. Authentic is separate from instructions while
traditional integrated with instruction.
