jemison
Mae Carol Jemison was born in Decatur, Alabama on October
17,1956.When Jemison was 3 years old her family moved to chicago, Illinois
where she got an advantage of a better educational opportunities.Jemison is
the youngest of three,she was fascinated with Science in her early age and her
parent supported her.In a young age she was into dancing,theater production
and participated on her school Black Student union.Her Mother Dorothy was a
elementary school teacher and her father Charlie was a maintenance supervisor
and carpenter.jemison would always change her career because she wanted to
purse her dreams.In 1973 she graduated from Morgan Park high school at age
16 then in 1977 She attended Stanford university on scholarship that’s where
she got her bachelor of science in chemical engineering and another bachelor
for arts in african american studies.As the only African American student in her
class she has experienced racial dicsramation in school.Jemison has practiced
medicine as a volunteer in a Cambodian refugee camp and as a medical officer
with the Peace Corps in West Africa .Jemison got her degree on Medical for
Cornell University in 1981.Mae C.jemison was training to be astronaut in 1985
and was not afraid after the challenger exploded the next year.She realized that
she was chosen out 2,000 applicants to be an astronaut and trained.Jemison
completed her training as a mission specialist with NASA in 1988.She is the first
Afraican American woman that went to Space in june 4,1987.She is an
engineering,Physician, and former NASA astronaut. Mae C Jemison also was
the first woman with six other astronauts to travel abroad in Space Shuttle
Endeavour on a mission of STS47 where they obrited 126 times around earth
which was 8 days in September 12, 1992.Jemison job in space was to
experiences bone cells,and motion sickness on her crewmates and herself.The
returned back in kennedy space center in florida on september 20,1992.Mae C
jemison won an award of Elizabeth Blackwell Medal.The Elizabeth Blackwell
medal is an award for the most outstanding contributions of women in the field
of medicine.Jemison had written several books about her life.She was inducted
into the Nationalwomen’s hall of fame and the International space hall of
fame.Jemison left NASA in march of 1993 after serving six years as an
asustornet.She began teaching in Dartmouth College and started her own
company.Mae Carol Jemison got a position as white professor at large in
Cornell University on 1999 where she wrote her own book in 2001 which was a
children's book about her life.Mae Carol Jemison was never married because
she was always busy with her career and is now 64 years old and lives alone in
Houston Texas.
