(1) Jethro priest of Midian, Moses’ 
father-in-law, heard all that God   ‫ֹת֣ן‬ֵ ‫ֹה֤ן ִמ ְדיָן֙ ח‬ ֵ ‫ִתר֨וֹ כ‬ ְ ‫ִשׁ ַמ֞ע י‬ְ ‫)א( וַיּ‬
had done for Moses and for Israel   ֙‫שׂ֤ה אֱלֹ ִהים‬ ָ ‫ֲשׁ֨ר ָע‬ ֶ ‫ֹשׁ֔ה ֵאת֩ כָּל־א‬ ֶ‫מ‬
His people, how the LORD had   ‫ָא֖ל ַעמּ֑וֹ ִֽכּי־הוֹ ִצ֧יא‬ ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ְ ‫ֹשׁ֔ה וּ ְלי‬ ֶ ‫לְמ‬
brought Israel out from Egypt. (2) 
 (‫ָא֖ל ִמ ִמּ ְצ ָֽריִם׃ )ב‬ ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ְ ‫יְהוָ֛ה ֶאת־י‬
So Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, 
took Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after   ‫ֹשׁ֔ה ֶאת־צִפָֹּר֖ה‬ ֶ ‫ֹת֣ן מ‬ ֵ ‫ִתרוֹ֙ ח‬ ְ ‫וַיִּ ַקּ֗ח י‬
she had been sent home, (3) and her   (‫יה׃ )ג‬ ָ ‫לּוּח‬
ֶֽ ‫שׁ‬ ִ ‫אַח֖ר‬ ַ ‫ֹשׁ֑ה‬ ֶ ‫֣שׁת מ‬ ֶ ‫ֵא‬
two sons—of whom one was named   ֙‫שׁ֤ם ָֽה ֶא ָחד‬ ֵ ‫ֲשׁ֨ר‬ ֶ ‫֑יה א‬
ָ ‫שֵׁנ֣י ָבֶנ‬ ְ ‫ְא֖ת‬ ֵ‫ו‬
Gershom, that is to say, “I have   ‫ְארֶץ‬ ֖ ֶ ‫֔יתי בּ‬ִ ִ‫אָמ֔ר ֵגּ֣ר ָהי‬ ַ ‫ֵֽגּרְשֹׁ֔ם ִכּ֣י‬
been a stranger in a foreign land”; 
(4) and the other was named 
 ‫עזֶר‬ ֑ ֶ ‫ְשׁ֥ם ָה ֶא ָח֖ד ֱאלִי‬ ֵ ‫נָ ְכ ִריָּֽה׃ )ד( ו‬
Eliezer, meaning, “The God of my   ‫ִֽכּי־אֱלֵֹה֤י אָ ִבי֙ ְבּ ֶע ְז ִר֔י וַיַּ ִצּ ֵל֖נִי ֵמ ֶח֥רֶב‬
father was my help, and He   ‫ֹשׁ֛ה‬ ֶ ‫ֹת֥ן מ‬ ֵ ‫ִתר֨וֹ ח‬ ְ ‫ְעֹה׃ )ה( וַיָּבֹ֞א י‬ ֽ ‫ַפּר‬
delivered me from the sword of   ‫ֹשׁ֑ה‬ֶ ‫ִשׁתּ֖וֹ ֶאל־מ‬ ְ ‫וּ ָבנָ֥יו וְא‬
Pharaoh.” (5) Jethro, Moses’   ‫שׁ֖ם‬ ָ ‫ֲשׁר־ה֛וּא חֶֹנ֥ה‬ ֶ ‫ל־ה ִמּ ְדבָּ֗ר א‬ ַ ‫ֶא‬
father-in-law, brought Moses’ sons 
and wife to him in the wilderness, 
 ‫ֹשׁ֔ה‬ ֶ ‫ֹ֙אמר֙ ֶאל־מ‬ ֶ ‫ַה֥ר ָהאֱלִֹֽהים׃ )ו( וַיּ‬
where he was encamped at the   ‫ך‬ָ֔ ‫תּ‬ְ ‫֨שׁ‬ ְ ‫ִתר֖וֹ ָבּ֣א ֵא ֶל֑י ָך וְ ִא‬ ְ ‫ֹתנְ ָך֥ י‬
ֶ ‫ֲאנִ֛י ח‬
mountain of God. (6) He sent word   ‫ֹשׁ֜ה‬ ֶ ‫֖יה ִע ָֽמּהּ׃ )ז( וַיֵּ ֵצ֨א מ‬ ָ ‫וּשֵׁנ֥י ָבֶנ‬ְ
to Moses, “I, your father-in-law   ‫ִשּׁק־ל֔וֹ‬ ַ ‫תּ֙חוּ֙ וַיּ‬ ַ ‫ִשׁ‬ְ ‫תנ֗וֹ וַיּ‬ ְ ֹ‫ִק ַר֣את ֽח‬ ְ‫ל‬
Jethro, am coming to you, with your   ‫ְשׁל֑וֹם וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ‬ ָ ‫ִשׁ ֲאל֥וּ אִישׁ־ ְל ֵר ֵע֖הוּ ל‬ ְ ‫וַיּ‬
wife and her two sons.” (7) Moses 
went out to meet his father-in-law;   ‫ֹ֣תנ֔וֹ‬ְ ‫ֹשׁה֙ לְח‬ ֶ ‫ַפּ֤ר מ‬ ֵ ‫הלָה׃ )ח( וַיְס‬ ֱ ֹ‫ָה ֽא‬
he bowed low and kissed him; each   ‫שׂ֤ה יְהוָה֙ ְל ַפרְעֹ֣ה‬ ָ ‫ֲשׁ֨ר ָע‬ֶ ‫ֵאת֩ כָּל־א‬
asked after the other’s welfare, and   ‫ָא֑ל ֵא֤ת‬ ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ ְ ‫ְמ ְצ ַר֔יִם ַע֖ל אוֹדֹ֣ת י‬ ִ ‫וּל‬
they went into the tent. (8) Moses   ‫ֶך‬
ְ ‫דּר‬ ֔ ֶ ‫֣תם ַבּ‬ ַ ‫ֲשׁ֣ר ְמ ָצאָ‬ ֶ ‫תּלָאָה֙ א‬ ְ ‫ָל־ה‬
ַ ‫כּ‬
then recounted to his father-in-law   ‫ִתר֔וֹ ַע֚ל‬ ְ ‫וַיַּ ִצּ ֵל֖ם יְהוָֽה׃ )ט( וַיִּ ַ֣ח ְדּ י‬
everything that the LORD had done 
to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for   ‫שׂ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה‬ ָ ‫ֲשׁר־ ָע‬ ֶ ‫ָל־הטּוֹ ָב֔ה א‬ ַ ‫כּ‬
Israel’s sake, all the hardships that   ‫ֲשׁ֥ר ִהצִּיל֖וֹ ִמיַּ֥ד ִמ ְצ ָֽריִם׃‬ ֶ ‫ָא֑ל א‬ ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ְ ‫ְלי‬
had befallen them on the way, and   ‫ֲשׁ֨ר‬ֶ ‫֣וּך יְהוָ֔ה א‬
how the LORD had delivered them.  ְ ‫ִתרוֹ֒ ָבּר‬ ְ ‫ֹאמר֮ י‬
ֶ ‫)י( וַיּ‬
(9) And Jethro rejoiced over all the   ‫וּמיַּ֣ד‬ִ ‫ת ֶכ֛ם ִמיַּ֥ד ִמ ְצ ַר֖יִם‬ ְ ‫ִה ִצּ֥יל ֶא‬
kindness that the LORD had shown   ‫ת־ה ָע֔ם‬
ָ ‫ֲשׁ֤ר ִהצִּיל֙ ֶא‬ ֶ ‫ַפּרְעֹ֑ה א‬
Israel when He delivered them from   ‫תּ֣ה‬ ָ ‫ַד־מ ְצ ָֽריִם׃ )יא( ַע‬
ִ ‫תּ ַ֖חת י‬ ַ ‫ִמ‬
the Egyptians. (10) “Blessed be the   ‫תּי ִֽכּי־ ָגד֥וֹל יְהוָ֖ה‬ ִ ‫יָ ַד֔ ְע‬
LORD,” Jethro said, “who   ‫ֲשׁ֥ר ָזד֖וּ‬ ֶ ‫ָל־האֱלֹ ִה֑ים ִכּ֣י ַב ָדּ ָב֔ר א‬
ָ ‫ִמכּ‬
delivered you from the Egyptians 
and from Pharaoh, and who   ‫ֹשׁ֛ה‬ֶ ‫ֹת֥ן מ‬ ֵ ‫ִתר֨וֹ ח‬ְ ‫ֵיהם׃ )יב( וַיִּ ַקּ֞ח י‬ ֶֽ ‫ֲעל‬
delivered the people from under the  ֲ ‫ָח֖ים ֵֽלאלֹ ִה֑ים וַיָּבֹ֨א‬
 ‫אַהרֹ֜ן‬ ִ ‫עָֹל֥ה וּ ְזב‬
hand of the Egyptians. (11) Now I   ‫ָא֗ל ֶל ֱאכָל־ ֶל ֶ֛חם‬ ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ְ ‫ִקֵנ֣י י‬
ְ ‫וְכֹ֣ל ׀ ז‬
know that the LORD is greater than   ‫ֹשׁ֖ה ִל ְפֵנ֥י ָהאֱלִֹֽהים׃‬ ֶ ‫ֹת֥ן מ‬ ֵ ‫ִעם־ח‬
all gods, yes, by the result of their 
very schemes against [the people].” 
(12) And Jethro, Moses’ 
father-in-law, brought a burnt 
offering and sacrifices for God; and 
Aaron came with all the elders of 
Israel to partake of the meal before 
God with Moses’ father-in-law. 
 
   
Exodus 18:13-23   ‫כ״ג‬-‫י״ג‬:‫שמות י״ח‬
(13) Next day, Moses sat as   ‫ֹשׁ֖ה‬ ֶ ‫֥שׁב מ‬ ֶ ֵ‫ְהי֙ ִֽמ ָמּ ֳח ָר֔ת וַיּ‬
ִ ‫)יג( וַי‬
magistrate among the people, while 
the people stood about Moses from   ֙‫ת־ה ָע֑ם וַיַּ ֲעמֹ֤ד ָה ָעם‬ ָ ‫ִשׁפֹּ֣ט ֶא‬ ְ‫ל‬
morning until evening. (14) But   ‫ד־ה ָֽערֶב׃‬ָ ‫ֹ֖קר ַע‬ ֶ ‫ן־הבּ‬
ַ ‫ֹשׁ֔ה ִמ‬ ֶ ‫ַעל־מ‬
when Moses’ father-in-law saw   ‫ֹשׁ֔ה ֵא֛ת‬ ֶ ‫ֹת֣ן מ‬ֵ ‫)יד( וַיַּ ְרא֙ ח‬
how much he had to do for the   ‫ֹ֗אמר‬
ֶ ‫ֹשׂ֖ה ָל ָע֑ם וַיּ‬ ֶ ‫ֲשׁר־ה֥וּא ע‬ ֶ ‫כָּל־א‬
people, he said, “What is this thing   ֙‫ֹשׂה‬
ֶ ‫אַתּ֤ה ע‬ ָ ‫ֲשׁ֨ר‬ ֶ ‫ה־ה ָדּ ָב֤ר ַה ֶזּה֙ א‬ ַ ‫ָֽמ‬
that you are doing to the people? 
Why do you act alone, while all the   ‫דּ ָך‬
֔ ֶ ‫יוֹשׁב֙ ְל ַב‬
ֵ ‫אַתּ֤ה‬ ָ ‫ָל ָע֔ם ַמדּ֗וּ ַע‬
people stand about you from   ‫ֹ֥קר‬ ֶ ‫ָל־ה ָע֛ם נִ ָצּ֥ב ָע ֶל֖י ָך ִמן־בּ‬
ָ ‫וְכ‬
morning until evening?” (15) Moses   ‫ֹשׁ֖ה‬ ֶ ‫ֹ֥אמר מ‬
ֶ ‫ַעד־ ָערֶב׃ )טו( וַיּ‬
replied to his father-in-law, “It is   ‫ֹתנ֑וֹ ִֽכּי־יָבֹ֥א ֵא ַל֛י ָה ָע֖ם ִלדְרֹ֥שׁ‬ ְ ‫לְח‬
because the people come to me to   ֙‫ָה֤ם ָדּ ָבר‬ ֶ ‫ִהיֶ֨ה ל‬ ְ ‫אֱלִֹֽהים׃ )טז( ִֽכּי־י‬
inquire of God. (16) When they 
have a dispute, it comes before me,   ‫וּב֣ין‬ֵ ‫תּ֔י ֵבּ֥ין ִא֖ישׁ‬ ִ ‫ַט‬ְ ‫ְשׁ֣פ‬ ָ ‫ָבּ֣א ֵא ַל֔י ו‬
and I decide between one person   ‫ת־ח ֵקּ֥י ָהאֱלֹ ִה֖ים‬ ֻ ‫תּ֛י ֶא‬ ִ ‫ֵר ֵע֑הוּ וְהוֹ ַד ְע‬
and another, and I make known the   ‫ֹת֥ן‬ֵ ‫ֹ֛אמר ח‬ ֶ ‫ֹתיו׃ )יז( וַיּ‬ ָֽ ‫ְאת־תּוֹר‬ ֶ‫ו‬
laws and teachings of God.” (17)   ‫ֲשׁ֥ר‬ ֶ ‫ֹשׁ֖ה ֵא ָל֑יו לֹא־טוֹב֙ ַה ָדּ ָב֔ר א‬ ֶ‫מ‬
But Moses’ father-in-law said to   ‫תּבֹּ֔ל‬ ִ ‫ֹשׂה׃ )יח( נָבֹ֣ל‬ ֶֽ ‫אַתּ֖ה ע‬ ָ
him, “The thing you are doing is not 
right; (18) you will surely wear   ‫ֲשׁ֣ר‬ ֶ ‫ַם־ה ָע֥ם ַה ֶזּ֖ה א‬ ָ ‫ַם־אַתּ֕ה גּ‬ ָ ‫גּ‬
yourself out, and these people as   ‫ך ַה ָדּ ָב֔ר‬ ֙ ָ ‫ָב֤ד ִמ ְמּ‬ ֵ ‫ִע ָמּ ְ֑ך ִֽכּי־כ‬
well. For the task is too heavy for   ‫תּ֞ה‬ ָ ‫לֹא־תוּ ַכ֥ל ֲעשֹׂ֖הוּ ְל ַב ֶֽדּ ָך׃ )יט( ַע‬
you; you cannot do it alone. (19)   ‫ִיה֥י אֱלֹ ִה֖ים‬ ִ ‫ךו‬ ֔ ָ ‫שׁ ַמ֤ע בְּקִֹלי֙ אִי ָע֣ ְצ‬ ְ
Now listen to me. I will give you 
 ‫אַתּ֣ה ָל ָע֗ם מ֚וּל‬ ָ ‫היֵ֧ה‬ ֱ ‫ִע ָמּ ְ֑ך‬
counsel, and God be with you! You 
represent the people before God:   ‫אַתּ֛ה‬ָ ֥‫את‬ ָ ‫ְה ֵב‬ ֵ ‫ָֽהאֱלֹ ִה֔ים ו‬
you bring the disputes before God,   (‫ל־האֱלִֹֽהים׃ )כ‬ ָ ‫ת־ה ְדּ ָב ִר֖ים ֶא‬ ַ ‫ֶא‬
(20) and enjoin upon them the laws   ‫ת־ה ֻח ִקּ֖ים‬ ַ ‫ת ֶה֔ם ֶא‬ ְ ‫ְתּ֣ה ֶא‬ ָ ‫ְהר‬ַ ‫ְהז‬ ִ‫ו‬
and the teachings, and make known   ‫ָה֗ם‬ ֶ ‫תּ֣ ל‬ָ ‫ת־התּוֹרֹ֑ת וְהוֹ ַד ְע‬ ַ ‫ְא‬ ֶ‫ו‬
to them the way they are to go and 
the practices they are to follow. (21) 
 ‫שׂ֖ה‬ ֶ ‫ת־ה ַמּ ֲע‬ ַֽ ‫ְא‬ ֶ ‫ֶך֙ יֵ֣לְכוּ ָב֔הּ ו‬ ְ ‫ת־ה ֶדּ֙ר‬
ַ ‫ֶא‬
You shall also seek out from among   ‫חֶז֣ה‬ ֱ ‫ְאַתּ֣ה ֶת‬ ָ ‫שׂוּן׃ )כא( ו‬ ֽ ‫ֲשׁ֥ר יַ ֲע‬
ֶ‫א‬
all the people capable men who fear   ‫ְא֧י אֱלֹ ִה֛ים‬ ֵ ‫י־ח֜יִל יִר‬ַ ‫ְשׁ‬ ֵ ‫ָל־ה֠ ָעם אַנ‬ ָ ‫ִמכּ‬
God, trustworthy men who spurn   ‫תּ‬
֣ ָ ‫ְשׂ ְמ‬ ַ ‫בצַע ו‬ ֑ ָ ‫ְאי‬ ֵ ‫ֱמ֖ת שֹׂ֣נ‬ ֶ ‫ְשׁ֥י א‬ֵ ‫אַנ‬
ill-gotten gain. Set these over them   ‫שׂ ֵר֣י ֵמא֔וֹת‬ ָ ֙‫שׂ ֵר֤י ֲא ָלפִים‬ ָ ‫ֵה֗ם‬ ֶ ‫ֲעל‬
as chiefs of thousands, hundreds, 
fifties, and tens, (22) and let them 
 (‫ֽת׃ )כב‬ ֹ‫שׂר‬ ָ ‫ְשׂ ֵר֥י ֲע‬ ָ ‫שּׁ֖ים ו‬ ִ ‫שׂ ֵר֥י ֲח ִמ‬ ָ
judge the people at all times. Have   ‫ְהיָ֞ה‬ ָ ‫ת־ה ָעם֮ ְבּכָל־ ֵעת֒ ו‬ ָ ‫ְשׁ ְפט֣וּ ֶא‬ ָ‫ו‬
them bring every major dispute to   ‫ָל־ה ָדּ ָב֤ר ַהגָּדֹל֙ יָ ִב֣יאוּ ֵא ֶל֔י ָך‬ ַ ‫כּ‬
you, but let them decide every   ‫ְטוּ־ה֑ם‬
ֵ ‫ִשׁפּ‬ ְ ‫ָל־ה ָדּ ָב֥ר ַה ָקּטֹ֖ן י‬ ַ ‫וְכ‬
minor dispute themselves. Make it   (‫ִתּ ְך׃ )כג‬ ָֽ ‫ָשׂא֖וּ א‬ ְ ‫ְה ֵקל֙ ֵֽמ ָע ֶל֔י ָך וְנ‬ ָ‫ו‬
easier for yourself by letting them 
share the burden with you. (23) If   ‫ך‬
֣ ָ ְ‫שׂ֔ה וְִצוּ‬ ֶ ‫תּ ֲע‬ַ ֙‫ת־ה ָדּ ָב֤ר ַה ֶזּה‬ ַ ‫ִא֣ם ֶא‬
you do this—and God so commands   ‫ָל־ה ָע֣ם‬ ָ ‫ְתּ֖ ֲעמֹ֑ד וְַגם֙ כּ‬ ָ ‫אֱלֹ ִה֔ים וְיָָֽכל‬
you—you will be able to bear up;   ‫ְשׁלֽוֹם׃‬ ָ ‫ל־מקֹמ֖וֹ יָבֹ֥א ב‬ ְ ‫ַה ֶזּ֔ה ַע‬
and all these people too will go 
home unwearied.” 
 
   
Exodus 18:24-27   ‫כ״ז‬-‫כ״ד‬:‫שמות י״ח‬
(24) Moses heeded his father-in-law   ‫ֹתנ֑וֹ‬
ְ ‫ֹשׁ֖ה ְלק֣וֹל ח‬ ֶ ‫ִשׁ ַמ֥ע מ‬ְ ‫)כד( וַיּ‬
and did just as he had said. (25) 
Moses chose capable men out of all   ‫ְח֨ר‬
ַ ‫אָמר׃ )כה( וַיִּב‬ ָֽ ‫ֲשׁ֥ר‬ ֶ ‫וַ ֕יַּ ַעשׂ כֹּ֖ל א‬
Israel, and appointed them heads   ‫ִתּ֥ן‬
ֵ ‫ָא֔ל וַיּ‬ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ ְ ‫י־חיִל֙ ִמכָּל־י‬
֙ ַ ‫ְשׁ‬ ֵ ‫ֹשׁ֤ה אַנ‬ ֶ‫מ‬
over the people—chiefs of   ‫שׂ ֵר֤י‬
ָ ‫ל־ה ָע֑ם‬
ָ ‫ָאשׁ֖ים ַע‬ ִ ‫ֹת֛ם ר‬ ָ‫א‬
thousands, hundreds, fifties, and   ‫שּׁ֖ים‬ ִ ‫שׂ ֵר֥י ֲח ִמ‬
ָ ‫שׂ ֵר֣י ֵמא֔וֹת‬ ָ ֙‫ֲא ָלפִים‬
tens; (26) and they judged the   ‫ְשׁ ְפט֥וּ‬
ָ ‫ֽת׃ )כו( ו‬ ֹ‫שׂר‬ָ ‫ְשׂ ֵר֥י ֲע‬
ָ‫ו‬
people at all times: the difficult 
matters they would bring to Moses,   ‫ת־ה ָדּ ָב֤ר‬
ַ ‫ת־ה ָע֖ם ְבּכָל־ ֵע֑ת ֶא‬ ָ ‫ֶא‬
and all the minor matters they   ‫ֹשׁ֔ה‬ֶ ‫שׁה֙ יְבִיא֣וּן ֶאל־מ‬ ֶ ‫ַה ָקּ‬
would decide themselves. (27) Then   ‫ִשׁפּוּט֥וּ ֵֽהם׃‬ ְ ‫ָל־ה ָדּ ָב֥ר ַה ָקּטֹ֖ן י‬
ַ ‫וְכ‬
Moses bade his father-in-law   ‫ֶך‬
ְ ‫ֹתנ֑וֹ וַ ֥יֵּל‬
ְ ‫ֹשׁ֖ה ֶאת־ח‬ ֶ ‫ְשׁ ַלּ֥ח מ‬ַ ‫)כז( וַי‬
farewell, and he went his way to his 
 (‫ל֖וֹ ֶאל־אַ ְרצֽוֹ׃ )פ‬
own land. 
 
   
Exodus 19:1-6   ‫ו׳‬-‫א׳‬:‫שמות י״ט‬
(1) On the third new moon after the   ‫ִישׁ֔י ְל ֵצ֥את‬
ִ ‫שּׁל‬ ְ ‫)א( בַּחֹ֙ ֶדשׁ֙ ַה‬
Israelites had gone forth from the 
land of Egypt, on that very day,   ‫ריִם ַבּיּ֣וֹם‬ ֑ ָ ‫ָא֖ל ֵמ ֶא֣רֶץ ִמ ְצ‬ ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ְ ‫ְבּנֵי־י‬
they entered the wilderness of Sinai.   ‫ַה ֶזּ֔ה ָבּ֖אוּ ִמ ְד ַבּ֥ר סִיֽנָי׃ )ב( וַיִּ ְסע֣וּ‬
(2) Having journeyed from   ‫ַחנ֖וּ‬
ֲ ‫ֵמ ְרפִידִ֗ים וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ ִמ ְד ַבּ֣ר סִינַ֔י וַֽיּ‬
Rephidim, they entered the   ‫ָא֖ל ֶ֥נגֶד‬ ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ְ ‫ן־שׁ֥ם י‬ָ ‫ַמּ ְד ָבּ֑ר וַיִּֽ ַח‬
ִ‫בּ‬
wilderness of Sinai and encamped   ‫ֹשׁ֥ה ָע ָל֖ה‬ ֶ ‫ָה ָֽהר׃ )ג( וּמ‬
in the wilderness. Israel encamped 
there in front of the mountain, (3)   ֙‫ִק ָר֨א ֵא ָל֤יו יְהוָה‬ ְ ‫ל־האֱלֹ ִה֑ים וַיּ‬

and Moses went up to God. The   ‫ְב֣ית‬ֵ ‫ֹאמר֙ ל‬ַ ‫ן־ה ָה֣ר לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּ֤ה ת‬ ָ ‫ִמ‬
LORD called to him from the   (‫ָאל׃ )ד‬ ֵֽ ‫ִשׂר‬ְ ‫ְת ֵגּ֖יד ִל ְבֵנ֥י י‬
ַ ‫יַ ֲעקֹ֔ב ו‬
mountain, saying, “Thus shall you   ‫֖יתי‬
ִ ‫שׂ‬ ִ ‫ֲשׁ֥ר ָע‬ֶ ‫ִית֔ם א‬ ֶ ‫אַתּ֣ם ְרא‬ ֶ
say to the house of Jacob and 
 ‫ְפ֣י‬
ֵ ‫ת ֶכם֙ ַעל־ ַכּנ‬ ְ ‫שּׂ֤א ֶא‬ ָ ‫ָא‬
ֶ ‫ְמ ְצ ָר֑יִם ו‬
ִ‫ל‬
declare to the children of Israel: (4)   (‫ת ֶכ֖ם ֵא ָֽלי׃ )ה‬ ְ ‫ְשׁ ִר֔ים וָאָ ִב֥א ֶא‬ ָ‫נ‬
‘You have seen what I did to the   ‫שׁ ְמעוּ֙ בְּקִֹל֔י‬ ְ‫תּ‬ ִ ‫ִם־שׁמ֤וֹ ַע‬
ָ ‫תּ֗ה א‬ ָ ‫וְ ַע‬
Egyptians, how I bore you on 
eagles’ wings and brought you to   ‫֨יתם ִל֤י‬ ֶ ִ‫ִהי‬ְ ‫ִית֑י ו‬
ִ ‫ְתּ֖ם ֶאת־ ְבּר‬ ֶ ‫וּשׁ ַמר‬ ְ
Me. (5) Now then, if you will obey   ‫ָל־ה ַע ִמּ֔ים כִּי־ ִל֖י‬
֣ ָ ‫ְס ֻג ָלּה֙ ִמכּ‬
Me faithfully and keep My   ‫תּ ְהיוּ־ ִל֛י‬ ִ ‫ְאַתּ֧ם‬ ֶ ‫ָל־ה ֽאָרֶץ׃ )ו( ו‬ָ ‫כּ‬
covenant, you shall be My treasured   ‫אלֶּה‬ ֚ ֵ ‫ֹהנִ֖ים וְג֣וֹי ָקד֑וֹשׁ‬ ֲ ‫ַמ ְמ ֶ ֥לכֶת כּ‬
possession among all the peoples.   ‫ַבּ֖ר ֶאל־ ְבֵּנ֥י‬ ֵ ‫תּד‬ְ ‫ֲשׁ֥ר‬ ֶ ‫ַה ְדּ ָב ִר֔ים א‬
Indeed, all the earth is Mine, (6) but 
you shall be to Me a kingdom of   ‫ָאל׃‬ֵֽ ‫ִשׂר‬ְ‫י‬
priests and a holy nation.’ These are 
the words that you shall speak to the 
children of Israel.”

(7) Moses came and summoned the   ‫ִקֵנ֣י ָה ָע֑ם‬
elders of the people and put before  ְ ‫ִק ָר֖א ְלז‬ ְ ‫ֹשׁ֔ה וַיּ‬ ֶ ‫)ז( וַיָּבֹ֣א מ‬
them all that the LORD had   ‫ָל־ה ְדּ ָב ִר֣ים‬
ַ ‫ֵיה֗ם ֵא֚ת כּ‬ ֶ ‫֣שׂם ִל ְפנ‬ ֶ ָ‫וַיּ‬
commanded him. (8) All the people   ‫ֲשׁ֥ר ִצוָּ֖הוּ יְהוָֽה׃ )ח( וַיַּ ֲענ֨וּ‬ ֶ ‫ָה ֵא֔לֶּה א‬
answered as one, saying, “All that   ‫ֹ֣אמר֔וּ כֹּ֛ל‬
ְ ‫ַח ָדּו֙ וַיּ‬ ְ ‫ָל־ה ָע֤ם י‬
ָ ‫כ‬
the LORD has spoken we will do!”   ‫֧שׁב‬ֶ ָ‫שׂ֑ה וַיּ‬ ֶ ‫ִבּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה נַ ֲע‬ ֶ ‫ֲשׁר־דּ‬ ֶ‫א‬
And Moses brought back the   ‫ֹשׁ֛ה ֶאת־ ִדּ ְב ֵר֥י ָה ָע֖ם ֶאל־יְהוָֽה׃‬ ֶ‫מ‬
people’s words to the LORD. (9) 
And the LORD said to Moses, “I   ‫ֹשׁ֗ה ִהֵנּ֨ה‬ ֶ ‫ֹ֨אמר יְהוָ֜ה ֶאל־מ‬ ֶ ‫)ט( וַיּ‬
will come to you in a thick cloud, in   ‫ך ְבּ ַע֣ב ֶֽה ָענָן֒ ַבּ ֲעב֞וּר‬ ֮ ָ ‫אָנִֹכ֜י ָבּ֣א ֵאלֶי‬
order that the people may hear   ‫ך‬
֖ ָ ‫ִשׁ ַמ֤ע ָה ָעם֙ ְבּ ַד ְבּ ִר֣י ִע ָמּ ְ֔ך וְגַם־ ְבּ‬ ְ‫י‬
when I speak with you and so trust   ‫ֹשׁ֛ה‬ ֶ ‫ֲמ֣ינוּ לְעוֹ ָל֑ם וַיֵַּגּ֥ד מ‬ ִ ‫יַא‬
you ever after.” Then Moses 
 (‫ֶאת־ ִדּ ְב ֵר֥י ָה ָע֖ם ֶאל־יְהוָֽה׃ )י‬
reported the people’s words to the 
LORD, (10) and the LORD said to   ‫ֹשׁה֙ ֵל ְ֣ך‬
ֶ ‫ֹ֨אמר יְהוָ֤ה ֶאל־מ‬ ֶ ‫וַיּ‬
Moses, “Go to the people and warn   ‫וּמ ָח֑ר‬
ָ ‫תּ֥ם ַהיּ֖וֹם‬ ָ ‫ַשׁ‬ְ ‫ל־ה ָע֔ם וְ ִקדּ‬ָ ‫ֶא‬
them to stay pure today and   ‫ְהי֥וּ נְכֹנִ֖ים‬ ָ ‫תם׃ )יא( ו‬ ָֹֽ‫שׂ ְמל‬ ִ ‫וְִכ ְבּס֖וּ‬
tomorrow. Let them wash their   ‫ִישׁ֗י‬ ִ ‫שּׁל‬ ְ ‫ִישׁ֑י ִכּ֣י ׀ ַבּיּ֣וֹם ַה‬ ִ ‫שּׁל‬ ְ ‫ַליּ֣וֹם ַה‬
clothes. (11) Let them be ready for 
the third day; for on the third day   ‫ל־ה֥ר‬
ַ ‫ָל־ה ָע֖ם ַע‬ ָ ‫יֵ ֵר֧ד יְהוָ֛ה ְל ֵעיֵנ֥י כ‬
the LORD will come down, in the   ֙‫ת־ה ָעם‬ָ ‫ְתּ ֶא‬ ֤ ָ ‫ְה ְג ַבּל‬ִ ‫סִיֽנָי׃ )יב( ו‬
sight of all the people, on Mount 
Sinai. (12) You shall set bounds for 
 ‫שּׁ ְמר֥וּ ָל ֶכ֛ם ֲעל֥וֹת‬ ָ ‫ָס ִב֣יב לֵאמֹ֔ר ִה‬
the people round about, saying,   ‫ָה֖ר‬ָ ‫ָל־הנֵֹּג֥ ַע בּ‬
ַ ‫ָה֖ר וּנְגֹ֣ ַע ְבּ ָק ֵצ֑הוּ כּ‬ ָ‫בּ‬
‘Beware of going up the mountain   ‫א־ת ַגּ֨ע בּ֜וֹ יָ֗ד‬ ִ ֹ‫יוּמת׃ )יג( ל‬ ָֽ ‫מ֥וֹת‬
or touching the border of it.   ‫ָקל֙ אוֹ־יָרֹ֣ה יִיָּ ֶר֔ה‬ ֵ ‫ִֽכּי־ ָסק֤וֹל יִסּ‬
Whoever touches the mountain 
ְ ‫ְה ָמ֥ה אִם־ ִא֖ישׁ לֹ֣א י‬
 ‫ִחיֶ֑ה‬ ֵ ‫אִם־בּ‬
shall be put to death: (13) no hand 
shall touch him, but he shall be   ‫ָהר׃‬ָֽ ‫ֹב֔ל ֵה ָ֖מּה יַ ֲעל֥וּ ב‬ ֵ ‫ִמשְֹׁך֙ ַהיּ‬ ְ‫בּ‬
either stoned or shot; beast or man,   ‫ל־ה ָע֑ם‬
ָ ‫ן־ה ָה֖ר ֶא‬ ָ ‫ֹשׁ֛ה ִמ‬ ֶ ‫)יד( וַ ֧יֵּרֶד מ‬
he shall not live.’ When the ram’s   ‫תם׃‬ ָֹֽ‫שׂ ְמל‬ ִ ‫ת־ה ָע֔ם וַֽיְַכ ְבּס֖וּ‬ ָ ‫וַיְ ַק ֵדּשׁ֙ ֶא‬
horn sounds a long blast, they may   ‫הי֥וּ נְכֹנִ֖ים‬ ֱ ‫ל־ה ָע֔ם‬ ָ ‫ֹ֙אמר֙ ֶא‬ ֶ ‫)טו( וַיּ‬
go up on the mountain.” (14) Moses 
 ‫ל־תּ ְגּשׁ֖וּ‬
ִ ‫ָמ֑ים ֽאַ‬ ִ ‫֣שׁת י‬ ֶ ֹ‫ִשׁל‬ְ‫ל‬
came down from the mountain to 
the people and warned the people to   ‫ִישׁ֜י‬
ִ ‫שּׁל‬ ְ ‫ְהי֩ ַביּ֨וֹם ַה‬ ִ ‫ִשּׁה׃ )טז( וַי‬ ָֽ ‫ֶאל־א‬
stay pure, and they washed their   ‫ְהי֩ קֹלֹ֨ת וּ ְב ָר ִק֜ים‬ ִ ‫ֹ֗קר וַי‬ ֶ ‫ִֽבּ ְהיֹ֣ת ַהבּ‬
clothes. (15) And he said to the   ‫ל־ה ָה֔ר וְקֹ֥ל שָֹׁפ֖ר ָח ָז֣ק‬ ָ ‫ָבד֙ ַע‬ ֵ ‫וְ ָענָ֤ן כּ‬
people, “Be ready for the third day:   ‫ֲשׁ֥ר‬ ֶ ‫ָל־ה ָע֖ם א‬ָ ‫ח ַר֥ד כּ‬ ֱ ֶ‫ְמאֹ֑ד וַיּ‬
do not go near a woman.” (16) On 
the third day, as morning dawned, 
 ‫ֹשׁ֧ה‬ֶ ‫ַֽבּ ַמּ ֲחֶֽנה׃ )יז( וַיּוֹ ֵצ֨א מ‬
there was thunder, and lightning,   ‫ִק ַר֥את ָֽהאֱלֹ ִה֖ים‬ ְ ‫ת־ה ָע֛ם ל‬ָ ‫ֶא‬
and a dense cloud upon the   ‫תּ֥ית‬ ִ ‫ְת ְח‬ַ ‫תיְַצּב֖וּ בּ‬ ְ ִֽ‫ן־ה ַמּ ֲחֶנ֑ה וַיּ‬
ַֽ ‫ִמ‬
mountain, and a very loud blast of   ‫שׁ֣ן ֻכּלּ֔וֹ‬ ַ ‫ְה֤ר סִינַי֙ ָע‬ ַ ‫ָה ָֽהר׃ )יח( ו‬
the horn; and all the people who   ‫ָא֑שׁ‬ֵ ‫ֲשׁ֨ר יָ ַר֥ד ָע ָל֛יו יְהוָ֖ה בּ‬ ֶ ‫מ ְפּנֵי א‬ ִ֠
were in the camp trembled. (17) 
Moses led the people out of the 
 ‫ח ַר֥ד‬ֱ ֶ‫ְשׁ֔ן וַיּ‬
ָ ‫֣שׁן ַה ִכּב‬ ֶ ‫שׁנוֹ֙ ְכּ ֶע‬ ָ ‫וַ ֤יַּ ַעל ֲע‬
camp toward God, and they took   ‫ְהי֙ ק֣וֹל‬ ִ ‫ָל־ה ָה֖ר ְמ ֽאֹד׃ )יט( וַי‬ ָ ‫כּ‬
their places at the foot of the   ‫ֹשׁ֣ה‬ֶ ‫ְחֵז֣ק ְמאֹ֑ד מ‬ ָ ‫ַהשּׁוֹ ָפ֔ר הוֹ ֵל ְ֖ך ו‬
mountain. (18) Now Mount Sinai   ‫ְהאֱלֹ ִה֖ים יַ ֲעֶנ֥נּוּ בְקוֹל׃‬ ָ ‫ַבּ֔ר ו‬ ֵ ‫יְד‬
was all in smoke, for the LORD had 
come down upon it in fire; the 
smoke rose like the smoke of a kiln, 
and the whole mountain trembled 
violently. (19) The blare of the horn 
grew louder and louder. As Moses 
spoke, God answered him in 
thunder.

(20) The LORD came down upon   ‫ל־ה֥ר סִינַ֖י‬ ַ ‫)כ( וַיֵּ֧רֶד יְהוָ֛ה ַע‬
Mount Sinai, on the top of the 
mountain, and the LORD called   ‫ֹשׁ֛ה‬ ֶ ‫ִק ָר֨א יְהוָ֧ה לְמ‬ ְ ‫ֶאל־רֹ֣אשׁ ָה ָה֑ר וַיּ‬
Moses to the top of the mountain   (‫ֹשׁה׃ )כא‬ ֶֽ ‫ֶאל־רֹ֥אשׁ ָה ָה֖ר וַ ֥יַּ ַעל מ‬
and Moses went up. (21) The   ‫ֹשׁ֔ה ֵר֖ד ָה ֵע֣ד‬ ֶ ‫ֹ֤אמר יְהוָה֙ ֶאל־מ‬ ֶ ‫וַיּ‬
LORD said to Moses, “Go down,   ‫ֶה ְרס֤וּ ֶאל־יְהוָה֙ ִל ְרא֔וֹת‬ ֶ ‫ָבּ ָע֑ם ֶפּן־י‬
warn the people not to break   ‫ֹהנִ֛ים‬ ֲ ‫וְנָ ַפ֥ל ִמ ֶמּ֖נּוּ ָֽרב׃ )כב( וְַג֧ם ַהכּ‬
through to the LORD to gaze, lest 
many of them perish. (22) The   ‫ִת ַק ָדּ֑שׁוּ‬ ְ ‫ָשׁ֥ים ֶאל־יְהוָ֖ה י‬ ִ ‫ַהנִּגּ‬
priests also, who come near the   ‫ֹ֤אמר‬ֶ ‫ָה֖ם יְהוָֽה׃ )כג( וַיּ‬ ֶ ‫ֶפּן־יִפְרֹ֥ץ בּ‬
LORD, must stay pure, lest the   ‫ֹשׁה֙ ֶאל־יְהוָ֔ה לֹא־יוּ ַכ֣ל ָה ָע֔ם‬ ֶ‫מ‬
LORD break out against them.”   ‫י־אַתּ֞ה‬ ָ ‫ל־ה֣ר סִינָ֑י ִֽכּ‬ ַ ‫ַל ֲעלֹ֖ת ֶא‬
(23) But Moses said to the LORD, 
 ‫ְבּ֥ל‬
ֵ ‫ֹ֤תה ָבּ֙נוּ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר ַהג‬ ָ ‫ַה ֵעד‬
“The people cannot come up to 
Mount Sinai, for You warned us   ‫ֹ֨אמר‬ֶ ‫ַשׁ ֽתּוֹ׃ )כד( וַיּ‬ ְ ‫ת־ה ָה֖ר וְ ִקדּ‬ ָ ‫ֶא‬
saying, ‘Set bounds about the   ‫אַתּ֖ה‬
ָ ‫֥ית‬ ָ ‫ֶך־ ֵר֔ד וְ ָע ִל‬ ְ ‫ֵא ָל֤יו יְהוָה֙ ל‬
mountain and sanctify it.’” (24) So   ‫ְה ָע֗ם‬ ָ ‫ֹהנִ֣ים ו‬ ֲ ‫ְהכּ‬ ַ ‫ְאַהרֹ֣ן ִע ָמּ ְ֑ך ו‬ֲ ‫ו‬
the LORD said to him, “Go down,   ‫אַל־יֶֽ ֶה ְרס֛וּ ַל ֲעלֹ֥ת ֶאל־יְהוָ֖ה‬
and come back together with Aaron; 
but let not the priests or the people 
 ‫ֹשׁ֖ה‬
ֶ ‫ֶפּן־יִ ְפרָץ־ ָֽבּם׃ )כה( וַ ֥יֵּרֶד מ‬
break through to come up to the   (‫ֵהם׃ )ס( )א‬ ֶֽ ‫ֹ֖אמר ֲאל‬ ֶ ‫ל־ה ָע֑ם וַיּ‬ ָ ‫ֶא‬
LORD, lest He break out against  ַ ‫ַבּ֣ר אֱלֹ ִה֔ים ֵא֛ת כּ‬
 ‫ָל־ה ְדּ ָב ִר֥ים‬ ֵ ‫וַיְד‬
them.” (25) And Moses went down   ‫ֵאמֹר׃ )ס( )ב( ֽאָנִֹ ֖כי֙ יְהוָ֣ה‬ ֽ ‫אלֶּה ל‬ ֖ ֵ ‫ָה‬
to the people and spoke to them. (1)   ‫ארֶץ‬ ֥ ֶ ‫ֵאת֛י ָך ֵמ‬
ִ ‫ֲשׁ֧ר הוֹצ‬ ֶ ‫אֱלֶֹה֑֔י ָך א‬
God spoke all these words, saying: 
(2) I the LORD am your God who 
 ‫ִמ ְצ ַר֖יִם ִמ ֵבּ֣֥ית ֲע ָב ִדֽ֑ים׃ )ג( לֹֽ֣א‬
brought you out of the land of   ַ‫ר֜ים ַעל־ ָפּֽנָ֗י‬ ֵ ‫ך אֱלֹ ִה֥֨ים א‬
֖ ִ ‫ֲח‬ ֛֩ ָ ‫ִהיֶֽה־ ְל‬ְ‫י‬
Egypt, the house of bondage: (3)   ‫ך ֶפ֣ ֶ֙סל֙ ׀‬ ֣֥ ָ ‫שׂ֨ה־ ְל‬ ֶ ‫ת ֲע‬ַֽ ‫)ד( לֹֽ֣א‬
You shall have no other gods   ‫ַשּׁ ַמ֣֙יִם֙ ׀ ִמ ַמּ֡֔ ַעל‬ ָ ‫ֲשׁ֣ר בּ‬ ֤ ֶ ‫ָל־תּמוּנָ֡֔ה א‬ ְ ‫וְכ‬
besides Me. (4) You shall not make   ‫ַמּ֖֣יִם‬
ַ ‫ֲשׁ֣ר בּ‬ ֥ ֶ ‫תַּ ַ֜חת וַא‬ ֑ ָ ‫ֲשׁ֥ר֩ ָבּאָ֖֨רֶץ ִמ‬ ֶ ‫וַֽא‬
for yourself a sculptured image, or   (‫ָאָ֗רֶץ )ה‬ ֽ ‫תּ֥ ַ֣חת ל‬ ַ ‫׀ ִמ‬
any likeness of what is in the   ֒‫דם‬ ֑ ֵ ‫ת ָע ְב‬ ָ ‫ָה֖ם֮ וְלֹ֣א‬ ֶ ‫תּ ְח ֥וֶ֣ה ל‬ ַ‫שׁ‬ ִ ֹ‫ל‬
ְ ‫ֽא־ת‬
heavens above, or on the earth 
below, or in the waters under the   ‫ֹ֠קד‬ֵ ‫ך ֵא֣ל ַקנָּ֔א פּ‬ ֙ ָ ‫ִכּ֣י ֽאָנִֹכ֞י יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֶֹה֙י‬
earth. (5) You shall not bow down   ‫ֵשׁ֥ים‬ ִ ‫ל־שׁלּ‬ ִ ‫ֲעוֺ֨ן אָבֹ֧ת ַעל־ ָבּנִ֛ים ַע‬
to them or serve them. For I the   ‫֤שׂה‬ ֥ ‫ִבּ ִע֖ים לְשֹׂנְאָֽ֑י׃ )ו( ו‬
ֶ ֹ‫ְע‬ ֵ ‫וְ ַעל־ר‬
LORD your God am an   ‫ֹה ַב֖י וּלְשֹׁ ְמ ֵר֥י‬ ֲ ‫ֶח֖ ֶ֙סד֙ ַל ֲא ָל ִפ֑֔ים לְא‬
impassioned God, visiting the guilt   ‫שּׂ֛א‬ ָ‫ת‬ ִ ‫ֺתי׃ )ס( )ז( לֹ֥א‬ ָֽ ‫ִמ ְצו‬
of the parents upon the children, 
upon the third and upon the fourth   ‫ַשּׁ֑וְא ִכּ֣י לֹ֤א‬ ָ ‫ת־שׁם־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֶֹה֖י ָך ל‬ ֵֽ ‫ֶא‬
generations of those who reject Me,   ‫ִשּׂ֥א‬ ָ ‫ֲשׁר־י‬ ֶ ‫ַקּה֙ יְהוָ֔ה ֵא֛ת א‬ ֶ ‫יְנ‬
(6) but showing kindness to the   ֩‫ַשּׁוְא׃ )פ( )ח( ָזכ֛וֹר‬ ָֽ ‫ת־שׁמ֖וֹ ל‬ ְ ‫ֶא‬
thousandth generation of those who   (‫ְשׁ֗וֹ )ט‬ ֽ ‫בּ֜ת ְל ַקדּ‬ ָ֖ ‫שּׁ‬ ַ ‫ֶאת־י֥֨וֹם ַה‬
love Me and keep My 
 ‫֣ית‬
ָ ‫שׂ‬ ֖ ִ ‫תּ ֲעבֹ֔ד֮ וְ ָע‬ ַֽ ֙‫ָמ֣ים‬ ִ ‫֣שׁת י‬ ֶ‫שׁ‬ ֵ֤
commandments. (7) You shall not 
swear falsely by the name of the   ‫ע֜י‬֔ ִ ‫שּׁבִי‬ ְ ‫ך )י( וְי֙וֹם֙ ַה‬ ֒ ָ ‫ְתּ‬ֶֽ ‫ָל־מלַאכ‬ ְ ‫כּ‬
LORD your God; for the LORD   ‫בּ֣ת ׀ לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֶֹה֑֗י ָך‬ ָ֖ ‫שׁ‬ ַ
will not clear one who swears   ‫אַתּ֣ה ׀‬ ָ ‫ָל־מלָא ָ ֡כ֜ה‬ ְ ‫שׂ֨ה כ‬ ַ ֹ‫ל‬
֣ ֶ ‫ֽ֣א־ת ֲע‬
falsely by His name. (8) Remember   ‫ך‬ ֙֜ ָ ‫ת‬ְ ‫ֲמ‬ָֽ ‫ך וַא‬ ֤֨ ָ ‫ִתּ֗ ָך ַע ְב ְדּ‬ ֶ ‫וּ ִבנְ ָךֽ֣־וּ֠ב‬
the sabbath day and keep it holy. (9) 
Six days you shall labor and do all 
 ‫ִשׁ ָע ֶֽר֔י ָך‬ ְ ‫ֲשׁ֣ר בּ‬ ֶ֥‫ך א‬ ֖֙ ָ ‫ְה ְמ ֶתּ֔֗ ָך וְֵג ְר‬ ֶ ‫וּב‬
your work, (10) but the seventh day   ‫שׂ֨ה יְהוָ֜ה‬ ָ ‫ָמים֩ ָע‬ ִ ‫שׁת־י‬ ֶ‫שׁ‬ ֵֽ ‫)יא( ִכּ֣י‬
is a sabbath of the LORD your God:   ‫ת־האָ֗רֶץ‬ ָ ‫ְא‬ ֶ ‫שּׁ ַמ֣יִם ו‬ ָ ‫ת־ה‬
ַ ‫ֶא‬
you shall not do any work—you,   ‫ֲשׁר־ ָבּ֔ם וַ ֖יָּנַח‬ ֶ ‫ְאת־כָּל־א‬ ֶ ‫ת־היָּם֙ ו‬ ַ ‫ֶא‬
your son or daughter, your male or   ‫שּׁבִי ִע֑י ַעל־כֵּ֗ן ֵבּ ַר ְ֧ך יְהוָ֛ה‬ ְ ‫ַבּיּ֣וֹם ַה‬
female slave, or your cattle, or the 
stranger who is within your 
 (‫ְשׁהוּ׃ )ס‬ ֵֽ ‫שּׁ ָבּ֖ת וַֽיְ ַקדּ‬ ַ ‫ֶאת־י֥וֹם ַה‬
settlements. (11) For in six days the   ‫ִמּ ָך‬֑ ֶ ‫ְאת־א‬ ֶ ‫ַבּ֥ד ֶאת־אָ ִב֖י ָך ו‬ ֵ ‫)יב( כּ‬
LORD made heaven and earth and   ‫ָמ֔ה‬ ָ ‫ָמ֔י ָך ַע֚ל ָה ֲאד‬ ֶ ‫ְמ ַען֙ יַ ֲא ִרכ֣וּן י‬ ַ֙ ‫ל‬
sea, and all that is in them, and He   (‫ֹת֥ן ָֽל ְך׃ )ס‬ ֵ ‫ֲשׁר־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֶֹה֖י ָך נ‬ ֶ‫א‬
rested on the seventh day; therefore   ‫תּנְאָֽ֑ף׃‬ ִֿ ‫תּ ְר ָצֽ֖ח׃ )ס( ֣לֹ֖א‬ ִֿ ‫)יג( ֥לֹ֖א‬
the LORD blessed the sabbath day 
and hallowed it. (12) Honor your   ‫ֽא־ת ֲעֶנ֥ה‬ ַ ֹ‫ְנֹ֔ב׃ )ס( ל‬ ֽ ‫תּג‬ ִֿ ‫)ס( ֣לֹ֖א‬
father and your mother, that you   ‫שׁ ֶקר׃ )ס( )יד( לֹ֥א‬ ָֽ ‫ְב ֵר ֲע ָך֖ ֵע֥ד‬
may long endure on the land that   ‫֣שׁת‬ ֶ ‫ֽא־ת ְחמֹ֞ד ֵא‬ ַ ֹ‫ת ְחמֹ֖ד ֵבּ֣ית ֵר ֶע֑ך ל‬ ַ
the LORD your God is assigning to 
you. (13) You shall not murder.   ‫ַחמֹר֔וֹ‬
ֲ ‫ֲמתוֹ֙ וְשׁוֹר֣וֹ ו‬
ָ ‫ֵר ֶע֗ ָך וְ ַע ְבדּ֤וֹ וַא‬
You shall not commit adultery. You   (‫ֲשׁ֥ר ְל ֵר ֶעך׃ )פ‬ ֶ ‫וְכֹ֖ל א‬
shall not steal. You shall not bear 
false witness against your neighbor. 
(14) You shall not covet your 
neighbor’s house: you shall not 
covet your neighbor’s wife, or his 
male or female slave, or his ox or 
his ass, or anything that is your 
neighbor’s. 
 
   
Exodus 20:15-23   ‫כ״ג‬-‫ט״ו‬:‫שמות כ׳‬
(15) All the people witnessed the   ‫ת־הקּוֹלֹ֜ת‬ ַ ‫ָל־ה ָעם֩ רִֹא֨ים ֶא‬ ָ ‫)טו( וְכ‬
thunder and lightning, the blare of 
the horn and the mountain smoking;   ‫ְאת֙ ק֣וֹל ַהשָֹּׁפ֔ר‬ ֵ ‫ת־ה ַלּפִּידִ֗ם ו‬ ַ ‫ְא‬ ֶ‫ו‬
and when the people saw it, they   ‫שׁ֑ן וַיַּ֤רְא ָה ָעם֙ וַיָֻּנ֔עוּ‬ ֵ ‫ת־ה ָה֖ר ָע‬ ָ ‫ְא‬ ֶ‫ו‬
fell back and stood at a distance.   ֙‫ֽאמרוּ‬
ְ ֹ‫ָחֹק׃ )טז( וַיּ‬ ֽ ‫וַיַּֽ ַע ְמד֖וּ ֵֽמר‬
(16) “You speak to us,” they said to   ‫ר־אַתּ֥ה ִע ָמּ֖נוּ‬
ָ ‫ַבּ‬
ֵ ‫ֹשׁ֔ה דּ‬ ֶ ‫ֶאל־מ‬
Moses, “and we will obey; but let   ‫ַבּ֥ר ִע ָמּ֛נוּ אֱלֹ ִה֖ים‬ ֵ ‫מ ָעה וְאַל־יְד‬ ֑ ָ ‫ִשׁ‬
ְ ‫וְנ‬
not God speak to us, lest we die.” 
(17) Moses answered the people,   ‫ֹשׁ֣ה‬
ֶ ‫ֹ֨אמר מ‬ֶ ‫ָמוּת׃ )יז( וַיּ‬ ֽ ‫ֶפּן־נ‬
“Be not afraid; for God has come   ֙‫אַל־תּירָאוּ֒ כִּ֗י ְל ַֽב ֲעבוּר‬ ִ ֮‫ל־ה ָעם‬
ָ ‫ֶא‬
only in order to test you, and in   ‫ת ֶכ֔ם ָבּ֖א ָהאֱלֹ ִה֑ים‬ ְ ‫נַסּ֣וֹת ֶא‬
order that the fear of Him may be   ‫תּ ְהיֶ֧ה יִרְאָת֛וֹ ַעל־ ְפּנֵי ֶכ֖ם‬ ִ ‫וּ ַב ֲעב֗וּר‬
ever with you, so that you do not go 
 ‫ֱטאוּ׃ )יח( וַיַּ ֲעמֹ֥ד ָה ָע֖ם‬ ָֽ ‫ְתּ֥י ֶתח‬ ִ ‫ְל ִבל‬
astray.” (18) So the people 
remained at a distance, while Moses   ‫ָפ֔ל‬ ֶ ‫ל־ה ֲער‬
ָֽ ‫ֹשׁה֙ נִ ַגּ֣שׁ ֶא‬ ֶ ‫ֵמרָחֹ֑ק וּמ‬
approached the thick cloud where   (‫ר־שׁ֖ם ָהאֱלִֹֽהים׃ )פ( )יט‬ ָ ‫ֲשׁ‬ ֶ‫א‬
God was. (19) The LORD said to   ‫ֹאמ֖ר‬
ַ ‫ֹשׁ֔ה כֹּ֥ה ת‬ ֶ ‫ֹ֤אמר יְהוָה֙ ֶאל־מ‬ ֶ ‫וַיּ‬
Moses: Thus shall you say to the   ‫ִית֔ם ִכּ֚י‬ ֶ ‫אַתּ֣ם ְרא‬ ֶ ‫ָא֑ל‬ ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ ְ ‫ֶאל־ ְבֵּנ֣י י‬
Israelites: You yourselves saw that I 
spoke to you from the very heavens: 
 ‫ְתּי ִע ָמּ ֶֽכם׃ )כ( לֹ֥א‬ ִ ‫בּר‬ ֖ ַ ‫מיִם ִדּ‬ ַ֔ ‫שּׁ‬
ָ ‫ן־ה‬ַ ‫ִמ‬
(20) With Me, therefore, you shall   ‫ִתּ֑י אֱלֵֹ֤הי ֶכ ֶ֙סף֙ וֵאלֵֹה֣י‬ ִ ‫ת ֲעשׂ֖וּן א‬ ַ
not make any gods of silver, nor   ‫ת ֲעשׂ֖וּ ָלכֶם׃ )כא( ִמ ְז ַבּ֣ח‬ ַ ‫ָה֔ב לֹ֥א‬ ָ‫ז‬
shall you make for yourselves any   ‫תּ֣ ָעלָ֗יו‬ ָ ‫ַח‬
ְ ‫שׂה־ ִלּי֒ וְָזב‬ ֶ ‫תּ ֲע‬ ַ ֮‫ָמה‬ָ ‫ֲאד‬
gods of gold. (21) Make for Me an   ‫ָמ֔י ָך‬
ֶ ‫ת־שׁל‬ ְ ‫ְא‬ ֶ‫ך ו‬֙ ָ ‫ֶאת־עֹלֶֹת֙י‬
altar of earth and sacrifice on it your 
burnt offerings and your sacrifices   ‫ר ָך‬
֑ ֶ ‫ְאת־ ְבּ ָק‬ֶ‫ך ו‬ ֖ ָ ְ‫ֽאנ‬
ֹ‫ֶאת־צ‬
of well-being, your sheep and your   ‫ֲשׁ֣ר אַ ְז ִכּ֣יר‬ ֶ ‫ָל־ה ָמּקוֹם֙ א‬ ַ ‫ְבּכ‬
oxen; in every place where I cause   ‫ְתּי ָך׃‬ִֽ ‫וּב ַרכ‬ ֵ ‫ת־שׁ ִמ֔י אָב֥וֹא ֵא ֶל֖י ָך‬ ְ ‫ֶא‬
My name to be mentioned I will   ֙‫ִם־מ ְז ַבּ֤ח ֲא ָבנִים‬ִ ‫)כב( וְא‬
come to you and bless you. (22)   ‫ת ֶה֖ן ָגּ ִז֑ית‬ ְ ‫ֽא־ת ְבֶנ֥ה ֶא‬ ִ ֹ‫שׂה־ ִלּ֔י ל‬ ֶ ‫תּ ֲע‬
ַֽ
And if you make for Me an altar of 
stones, do not build it of hewn   ‫ַתּ ַֽח ְל ֶֽל ָה׃‬
ְ ‫֖יה ו‬ָ ‫ְתּ ָע ֶל‬ ָ ‫ִכּ֧י ַח ְר ְבּ ָך֛ ֵהנַ֥פ‬
stones; for by wielding your tool   ‫ְמ ֲעלֹ֖ת‬ ַ ‫ֽא־ת ֲע ֶל֥ה ב‬ ַ ֹ‫)כג( וְל‬
upon them you have profaned them.  ִ ֹ‫ֲשׁ֛ר ל‬
 ‫ֽא־ת ָגּ ֶל֥ה‬ ֶ ‫ְח֑י א‬ ִ ‫ל־מ ְזבּ‬
ִ ‫ַֽע‬
(23) Do not ascend My altar by   (‫ָתך֖ ָעלָיו׃ )פ‬ ְ ‫ֶע ְרו‬
steps, that your nakedness may not 
be exposed upon it.

(19) The LORD said to Moses:   ‫ֹשׁ֔ה כֹּ֥ה‬ ֶ ‫ֹ֤אמר יְהוָה֙ ֶאל־מ‬ ֶ ‫)יט( וַיּ‬
Thus shall you say to the Israelites: 
You yourselves saw that I spoke to   ‫אַתּ֣ם‬ ֶ ‫ָא֑ל‬ ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ְ ‫ֹאמ֖ר ֶאל־ ְבֵּנ֣י י‬ ַ ‫ת‬
you from the very heavens: (20)   ‫ְתּי‬ִ ‫בּר‬ ֖ ַ ‫שּׁ ַמ֔יִם ִדּ‬ ָ ‫ן־ה‬

ְ ‫וְָזב‬
burnt offerings and your sacrifices   ‫ך‬
֖ ָ ְ‫ֽאנ‬ֹ‫ָמ֔י ָך ֶאת־צ‬ ֶ ‫ת־שׁל‬ְ ‫ְא‬ ֶ‫ו‬

Isaiah 6:1-7:6   ‫ו׳‬:‫ז׳‬-‫א׳‬:‫ישעיהו ו׳‬
(1) In the year that King Uzziah   ‫ֶך ֻע ִזּיָּ֔הוּ‬
died, I beheld my Lord seated on a  ְ ‫מּל‬ ֣ ֶ ‫ִשׁנַת־מוֹת֙ ַה‬ ְ ‫)א( בּ‬
high and lofty throne; and the skirts   ‫ִסּ֖א‬ֵ ‫ֹשׁ֥ב ַעל־כּ‬ ֵ ‫ְא֧ה ֶאת־אֲדֹנָ֛י י‬ ֶ ‫ָאר‬ ֶ‫ו‬
of His robe filled the Temple. (2)   ‫ִשּׂ֑א וְשׁוּ ָל֖יו ְמ ֵל ִא֥ים‬ ָ ‫ָר֣ם וְנ‬
Seraphs stood in attendance on   ‫ֹמ ִד֤ים ׀‬ ְ ‫שׂ ָר ִפ֨ים ע‬ ְ (‫ת־ה ֵהי ָֽכל׃ )ב‬ ַ ‫ֶא‬
Him. Each of them had six wings:   ‫שׁ֥שׁ ְכּנָ ַפ֖יִם‬ ֵ ‫פיִם‬ ֛ ַ ָ‫שׁ֧שׁ ְכּנ‬ ֵ ‫מּ ַעל֙ ל֔וֹ‬ ֙ ַ ‫ִמ‬
with two he covered his face, with   ‫ַסּ֣ה ָפנָ֗יו‬ ֶ ‫תּיִם ׀ יְכ‬ ֣ ַ ‫ִשׁ‬
ְ ‫ְא ָח֑ד בּ‬ ֶ‫ל‬
two he covered his legs, and with 
two he would fly. (3) And one   ‫תּ֥יִם‬ ַ ‫ִשׁ‬ ְ ‫ַסּ֥ה ַר ְג ָל֖יו וּב‬ ֶ ‫תּ֛יִם יְכ‬ ַ ‫ִשׁ‬ְ ‫וּב‬
would call to the other, “Holy, holy,   ‫ְאָמ֔ר‬ַ ‫ְעוֹפף׃ )ג( וְ ָק ָר֨א ֶז֤ה ֶאל־ֶזה֙ ו‬ ֵֽ ‫י‬
holy! The LORD of Hosts! His   ‫ָקד֧וֹשׁ ׀ ָקד֛וֹשׁ ָקד֖וֹשׁ יְהוָ֣ה ְצ ָבא֑וֹת‬
presence fills all the earth!” (4) The   ֙‫ָל־האָ֖רֶץ כְּבוֹדֽוֹ׃ )ד( וַיָֻּנ֙עוּ‬ ָ ‫ְמלֹ֥א כ‬
doorposts would shake at the sound 
 ‫אַמּ֣וֹת ַה ִסּ ִפּ֔ים ִמקּ֖וֹל ַהקּוֹ ֵר֑א‬
of the one who called, and the 
House kept filling with smoke. (5) I   ‫ֹמ֞ר‬ַ ‫שׁן׃ )ה( וָא‬ ָֽ ‫ִמּ ֵל֥א ָע‬ ָ ‫ְה ַבּ֖יִת י‬ ַ‫ו‬
cried, “Woe is me; I am lost! For I   ‫֗יתי ִכּ֣י ִא֤ישׁ‬ ִ ‫ְמ‬ ֵ ‫ֽאוֹי־ ִל֣י ִֽכי־נִד‬
am a man of unclean lips And I live   ‫ְתוֹך‬
֙ ְ ‫ָת֙יִם֙ אָנֹ֔כִי וּב‬ ַ ‫א־שׂפ‬ ְ ‫ְט ֵֽמ‬
among a people Of unclean lips;   ‫יוֹשׁ֑ב כִּ֗י‬ ֵ ‫ָתיִם אָנִֹכ֖י‬ ֔ ַ ‫שׂפ‬ ְ ‫ם־ט ֵמ֣א‬ ְ ‫ַע‬
Yet my own eyes have beheld The 
King LORD of Hosts.” (6) Then 
 ‫ֶך יְהוָ֥ה ְצ ָבא֖וֹת ָרא֥וּ ֵעיֽנָי׃‬ ְ ‫מּל‬֛ ֶ ‫ת־ה‬
ַ ‫ֶא‬
one of the seraphs flew over to me   ‫שּׂ ָר ִפ֔ים‬ ְ ‫ן־ה‬
ַ ‫)ו( וַ ֣יָּ ָעף ֵאלַ֗י ֶא ָחד֙ ִמ‬
with a live coal, which he had taken   ‫ְמ֨ ְל ַק ַח֔יִם ָל ַק֖ח ֵמ ַע֥ל‬ ֶ ‫וּ ְביָד֖וֹ ִר ְצ ָפּ֑ה בּ‬
from the altar with a pair of tongs.   ‫ֹ֕אמר‬
ֶ ‫ְבּ ַח׃ )ז( וַיַַּגּ֣ע ַעל־ ִפּ֔י וַיּ‬ ֵֽ ‫ַה ִמּז‬
(7) He touched it to my lips and   ‫ָת֑י ָך וְ ָס֣ר ֲעוֶֺ֔נ ָך‬ֶ ‫ל־שׂפ‬ ְ ‫ִהֵנּ֛ה נָ ַג֥ע ֶז֖ה ַע‬
declared, “Now that this has 
touched your lips, Your guilt shall 
 ‫שׁ ַמ֞ע‬ ְ ‫ָא‬
ֶ ‫תּ ֻכ ָֽפּר׃ )ח( ו‬ ְ ֖‫את ָך‬
ְ ‫ְח ָטּ‬ ַ‫ו‬
depart And your sin be purged   ‫שׁ ַל֖ח‬ ְ ‫ת־מ֥י ֶא‬ ִ ‫ֹמ֔ר ֶא‬ ֵ ‫ֶאת־ק֤וֹל אֲדֹנָי֙ א‬
away.” (8) Then I heard the voice of   ‫ָחנִי׃‬ֵֽ ‫שׁל‬ ְ ‫ֹמ֖ר ִהנְנִ֥י‬ ַ ‫וּמ֣י יֵֽלֶך־ ָל֑נוּ וָא‬ ִ
my Lord saying, “Whom shall I   ‫ְתּ ָל ָע֣ם ַה ֶזּ֑ה‬ ֖ ָ ‫ְאָמר‬
ַ ‫ֹ֕אמר ֵל ְ֥ך ו‬ ֶ ‫)ט( וַיּ‬
send? Who will go for us?” And I   ‫ְאַל־תּ ִב֔ינוּ וּ ְרא֥וּ ָרא֖וֹ‬ ָ ‫עו‬֙ ַ ‫שׁמ֙וֹ‬ ָ ‫שׁ ְמע֤וּ‬ ִ
said, “Here am I; send me.” (9) And 
He said, “Go, say to that people:   ‫ֵב־ה ָע֣ם‬ ָ ‫שׁ ֵמן֙ ל‬ ְ ‫ְאַל־תּ ָֽדעוּ׃ )י( ַה‬ ֵ ‫ו‬
‘Hear, indeed, but do not   ‫שׁ֑ע‬ ַ ‫ְבּ֖ד וְ ֵעינָ֣יו ָה‬ ֵ ‫ַה ֶזּ֔ה וְאָ ְזנָ֥יו ַהכ‬
understand; See, indeed, but do not   ‫ִשׁ ָמ֗ע‬ ְ ‫ְא֨ה ְב ֵעינָ֜יו וּבְאָ ְזנָ֣יו י‬ ֶ ‫ֶפּן־יִר‬
grasp.’ (10) Dull that people’s   (‫רפָא לֽוֹ׃ )יא‬ ֥ ָ ְ‫ָשׁ֖ב ו‬
ָ ‫וּ ְל ָבב֥וֹ יָ ִב֛ין ו‬
mind, Stop its ears, And seal its   ‫ֹ֡אמר ַע֣ד‬ ֶ ‫ת֖י אֲדֹנָ֑י וַיּ‬ ַ ‫ד־מ‬
ָ ‫ֹמ֕ר ַע‬ ַ ‫וָא‬
eyes— Lest, seeing with its eyes 
And hearing with its ears, It also   ‫יוֹשׁ֗ב‬ ֵ ‫ִם־שׁא֨וּ ָע ִר֜ים ֵמ ֵא֣ין‬ ָ ‫ֲשׁר֩ א‬ ֶ‫א‬
grasp with its mind, And repent and   ‫ָמ֖ה‬ ָ ‫ְה ֲאד‬ ָ ‫ָתּים֙ ֵמ ֵא֣ין אָ ָד֔ם ו‬ ִ ‫וּב‬
save itself.” (11) I asked, “How   ‫ִח֥ק יְהוָ֖ה‬ ַ ‫שׁ ָמ ָֽמה׃ )יב( וְר‬ ְ ‫שּׁ ֶא֥ה‬ ָ‫תּ‬ ִ
long, my Lord?” And He replied:   ‫ְקרֶב‬ ֥ ֶ ‫ת־האָ ָד֑ם וְ ַר ָבּ֥ה ָה ֲעזוּ ָב֖ה בּ‬ ָ ‫ֶא‬
“Till towns lie waste without 
 ‫שׂ֣ ִריָּ֔ה‬ ִ ‫ָה ֽאָרֶץ׃ )יג( וְע֥וֹד ָבּהּ֙ ֲע‬
inhabitants And houses without 
people, And the ground lies waste   ‫ָא ָל֣ה‬ ֵ ‫ְת֣ה ְל ָב ֵע֑ר כּ‬ ָ ‫ְהי‬
ָ ‫ְשׁבָה ו‬ָ֖‫ו‬
and desolate— (12) For the LORD   ‫ְשׁ ֶלּ֙ ֶכת֙ ַמ ֶצּ ֶ֣בת ָבּ֔ם‬ ַ ‫ֲשׁ֤ר בּ‬ ֶ ‫וְכָאַלּ֗וֹן א‬
will banish the population— And   ‫ְה֡י‬
ִ ‫ְתּהּ׃ )פ( )א( וַי‬ ָֽ ‫ֶ֥זרַע קֹ֖דֶשׁ ַמ ַצּב‬
deserted sites are many In the midst   ‫ֶך‬
ְ ‫ן־יוֹת֨ם ֶבּן־ ֻע ִזּיָּ֜הוּ ֶמ֣ל‬ ָ ‫ִימ֣י אָ ָ֠חז ֶבּ‬ ֵ‫בּ‬
of the land. (13) “But while a tenth 
part yet remains in it, it shall repent. 
 ‫ארָם‬ ֠ ֲ ‫ֶך־‬
ְ ‫יְהוּדָ֗ה ָע ָל֣ה ְר ִצ֣ין ֶֽמל‬
It shall be ravaged like the terebinth   ֙‫ָאל‬ ֵ ‫ִשׂר‬ ְ ‫ֶך־י‬ ְ ‫ְמ ְליָ֤הוּ ֶֽמל‬ ַ ‫וּפ ַקח ֶבּן־ר‬ ֶ֨
and the oak, of which stumps are   ‫֑יה וְלֹ֥א יָכֹ֖ל‬ ָ ‫ְח ָמ֖ה ָע ֶל‬ ָ ‫ַמּל‬ ִ ‫֣וּשׁ ִַל֔ם ל‬
ָ ‫יְר‬
left even when they are felled: its   ‫ְב֤ית‬ ֵ ‫יה׃ )ב( וַיֻּגַּ֗ד ל‬ ָ ‫ָח֥ם ָע ֶֽל‬ֵ ‫ְהלּ‬ִ‫ל‬
stump shall be a holy seed.” (1) In   ‫ריִם‬ ֑ ָ ‫ל־א ְפ‬ֶ ‫ָדּוִד֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר נָ ָֽ֥חה ֲא ָר֖ם ַע‬
the reign of Ahaz son of Jotham son 
of Uzziah, king of Judah, King 
 ‫וַיָּ֤נַע ְלבָבוֹ֙ וּ ְל ַב֣ב ַעמּ֔וֹ ְכּנ֥וֹ ַע‬
Rezin of Aram and King Pekah son   ‫ֹ֣אמר‬ ֶ ‫ֽוּח׃ )ג( וַיּ‬ ַ ‫ֲעצֵי־יַ֖ ַער ִמ ְפּנֵי־ר‬
of Remaliah of Israel marched upon   ‫ִק ַר֣את‬ ְ ‫ְשׁ ְעיָהוּ֒ צֵא־נָא֙ ל‬ ַ ‫יְהוָה֮ ֶֽאל־י‬
Jerusalem to attack it; but they were   ‫וּשׁאָ֖ר יָשׁ֣וּב ְבֶּ֑נ ָך‬ ְ ‫אַתּ֕ה‬ ָ ‫אָח֔ז‬ ָ
not able to attack it. (2) Now, when   ‫תּ ָע ַלת֙ ַה ְבּ ֵר ָכ֣ה‬ ְ ‫ל־קצֵ֗ה‬
it was reported to the House of  ְ ‫ֶא‬
David that Aram had allied itself   ‫כוֹבס׃‬ ֵֽ ‫שׂ ֵד֥ה‬ ְ ‫ל־מ ִס ַלּ֖ת‬ ְ ‫ָה ֶעלְיוֹנָ֔ה ֶא‬
with Ephraim, their hearts and the   ‫שׁ ֵק֜ט‬ ְ ‫ְה‬
ַ ‫שּׁ ֵמ֨ר ו‬ ָ ‫ְתּ ֵא֠לָיו ִה‬ ֣ ָ ‫ְאָמר‬
ַ ‫)ד( ו‬
hearts of their people trembled as   ‫שֵּׁנ֨י‬ְ ‫אַל־תּירָ֗א וּ ְל ָב ְבך֙ אַל־יֵ ַר֔ך ִמ‬ ִ
trees of the forest sway before a 
wind. (3) But the LORD said to   ‫אלֶּה‬ ֑ ֵ ‫שׁנִ֖ים ָה‬ ֵ ‫ַזנְב֧וֹת ָהאוּ ִד֛ים ָה ֲע‬
Isaiah, “Go out with your son   ‫ְמ ְליָֽהוּ׃‬
ַ ‫וּבן־ר‬ ֶ ‫ָחרִי־אַ֛ף ְר ִצ֥ין וַ ֲא ָר֖ם‬ ֳ‫בּ‬
Shear-jashub to meet Ahaz at the 
end of the conduit of the Upper   ‫)ה( יַ֗ ַען ִֽכּי־יָ ַע֥ץ ָע ֶל֛י ָך ֲא ָר֖ם ָר ָע֑ה‬
Pool, by the road of the Fuller’s   (‫ֵאמֹר׃ )ו‬ ֽ ‫ְמ ְליָ֖הוּ ל‬ ַ ‫וּבן־ר‬
ֶ ‫ֶא ְפ ַר֥יִם‬
Field. (4) And say to him: Be firm   ‫נַ ֲע ֶל֤ה ִֽביהוּ ָדה֙ וּנְ ִקי ֶצ֔נָּה וְנַ ְב ִק ֶע֖נָּה‬
and be calm. Do not be afraid and   ‫ֶך בְּתוֹ ָכ֔הּ ֵא֖ת‬ ֙ ְ ‫֥יך ֶמ֙ל‬
ְ ‫ַמ ִל‬
ְ ‫ֵא ֵל֑ינוּ וְנ‬
do not lose heart on account of   (‫ְאַל׃ )ס‬
those two smoking stubs of  ֽ ‫ן־טב‬
ָ ‫ֶבּ‬
firebrands, on account of the raging 
of Rezin and his Arameans and the 
son of Remaliah. (5) Because the 
Arameans—with Ephraim and the 
son of Remaliah—have plotted 
against you, saying, (6) ‘We will 
march against Judah and invade and 
conquer it, and we will set up as 
king in it the son of Tabeel,’ 
 
   
Isaiah 9:5-6   ‫ו׳‬-‫ה׳‬:‫ישעיהו ט׳‬
(5) For a child has been born to us,   ‫ִתּן־ ָל֔נוּ‬ַ ‫)ה( כִּי־ ֣יֶלֶד יֻלַּד־לָ֗נוּ ֵבּ֚ן נ‬
A son has been given us. And 
authority has settled on his   ‫ִק ָר֨א‬
ְ ‫ל־שׁ ְכמ֑וֹ וַיּ‬
ִ ‫שׂ ָר֖ה ַע‬ ְ ‫ַתּ ִה֥י ַה ִמּ‬ ְ‫ו‬
shoulders. He has been named “The   ‫פּלֶא יוֹ ֵעץ֙ ֵא֣ל ִגּבּ֔וֹר ֲאבִי ַע֖ד‬ ֠ ֶ ‫שׁמ֜וֹ‬ ְ
Mighty God is planning grace; The   [‫ְבּ֨ה‬ ֵ ‫ְמר‬ַ ‫ר־שׁלֽוֹם׃ )ו( לםרבה ]ל‬ ָ ‫שׂ‬ ַ
Eternal Father, a peaceable ruler”—   ‫ין־ק֗ץ‬
ֵ ‫ְשׁל֣וֹם ֵֽא‬ ָ ‫שׂ ָר֜ה וּל‬ ְ ‫ַה ִמּ‬
(6) In token of abundant authority   ‫ְה ִכ֤ין‬
ָ ‫ל־מ ְמ ַל ְכתּ֔וֹ ל‬
ַ ‫ִסּ֤א ָדוִד֙ וְ ַע‬ ֵ ‫ַעל־כּ‬
And of peace without limit Upon 
David’s throne and kingdom, That   ‫שׁ ָפּ֖ט וּ ִב ְצ ָד ָק֑ה‬ְ ‫ְמ‬
ִ ‫ֹתהּ֙ וּֽ ְל ַס ֲע ָד֔הּ בּ‬ ָ‫א‬
it may be firmly established In   ‫תּה֙ וְ ַעד־עוֹ ָל֔ם ִקנְאַ֛ת יְהוָ֥ה‬ ָ ‫ֵמ ַע‬
justice and in equity Now and   (‫שׂה־זֹּֽאת׃ )ס‬ ֶ ‫תּ ֲע‬ַ ‫ְצ ָבא֖וֹת‬
evermore. The zeal of the LORD of 
Hosts Shall bring this to pass.
