A Great Place to Visit

If we can speak English, we can travel to many countries in the world
and communicate with the people. It will be a great experience in our life if
we can the world. Therefore, here are our picks of the top seven
countries in the world you should .
Jordan One of the safest countries in the Middle East, Jordan is home
to the incredible lost city of Petra. Head to the lowest point on earth and float
in the Dead Sea and then, the stark landscape of the Wadi-Rum desert –
go skydiving over the desert canyons or stay in a Bedouin camp.
Philippines An archipelago of some 7,000 islands, the Philippines is a
fun destination. You will perfect beaches, amazing vistas and
warm hospitality. Go island hopping and discover hidden beaches, snorkel
amongst colourful corals and try some adventure sports.
Indonesia Another country with numerous islands to explore is
Indonesia. If you time, to explore only one island, let it be Bali.
Explore Ubud, the cultural centre of Bali or go for a sunrise trek to
Mount Agung (the highest point on the island) or Mount Batur, which is an
active volcano set in a huge crater.
Turkey, if you have yet to visit this East-meets-West gem, let this be
the year that you do! Istanbul itself has plenty of things to keep you
occupied – the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar and a cruise down
the Bosporus. Make sure you visit the quirky cave dwellings of Cappadocia
and hot air ballooning over its surreal landscape.
South Africa Offering a wide array of options, South Africa is another
destination that should be on your bucket list. Cape Town has consistently
it to the list of best cities to visit. Kruger National Park rivals
Kenya’s Masai Mara in its wildlife safaris. Don’t miss out on visiting the
Table Mountain or the Kalahari dessert.
Spain Sunny Spain is a great location for a mid-season holiday in
Europe. The cities of Barcelona and Madrid are of course must-dos. Don’t
miss visiting the Alhambra fortress in Granada, Andalusia.
Australia The land Down Under has so much diversity that you can
everything from beaches to mountains, theme parks to ski resorts and
vineyards to wildlife. Visit the iconic Opera House in Sydney, go snorkelling
at the Great Barrier Reef and check out Kangaroo Island’s rugged beauty.
You will truly be spoilt for choice in Australia!

Dear God, Thank You for Everything
By Rania Naim

“When we have nothing left but God, we discover that God is enough.”
God, thank you for all these blessings that I take for granted on a daily
basis. Thank you for not hating me when I was ungrateful or rude or when
my faith was shaken. Thank you for the times you have inspired me to seek
knowledge and know more about the world and about myself. Thank you for
giving me the spirituality I need to contemplate the wonders of the world and
the wonders of your creation and the magic of your words and your daily
miracles. Thank you for the thousands of chances you have given me.
Thank you for all the lessons, especially the hard ones. Thank you
for the love you have shown me through family and friends. Thank you for

27
the hardships — indeed, every hardship was followed by ease. Thank
you for always being in my heart and embracing me in my lonely nights.
Thank you for sending me all these warning signs through your messengers
who were disguised as people or books or just gut feelings. Thank you for
giving me the strength I needed to endure pain and be comfortable with my
loneliness. Thank you for giving me a reason to wake up every day. Thank
you for giving me people to look up to.
Thank you for sending me people to love. Thank you for inspiring
me to keep trying to be a better person. Thank you for giving me that faith I
need when there seems to be no hope. Thank you for being patient with me
when I can’t even be patient with myself. Thank you for whispering into
my soul when I almost felt dead inside. Thank you for showing me that
this life is fleeting and unpredictable and that I shouldn’t take it for granted.
Thank you for showing me that you are the truth. Thank you for health, for
shelter, and for food.
Thank you for healing me when I was broken. Thank you for being
there when no one else was. Thank you for everything. Thank you for it all.
I wish I can carry out the message you have for me on this earth right, carry
it with love and carry with peace. I wish I can pass the message on and
make a difference. I am writing this for anyone who is feeling lost, desperate,
sad, angry, or heart broken. Someone who is going through a lot of
hardships or feels betrayed by the world, I would like them to know that you
are the answer and the only guidance. That they don’t have to look outside
or find someone else to heal them, all they have to do is look up and talk to
you or just look for you inside their hearts. This is the only way to deal with
hardships and deal with life. Thank you for always being there and for
reassuring me that no matter what, I will never be alone.

Workers and higher education students

Burnout
WHO medical problem
An American psychologist

Workers or higher education students have experienced burnout for

decades. Burnout is mental exhaustion from too much stress at work. The
WHO has now called it a medical problem. People with burnout often lack
energy or feel exhausted. They feel negative about their job or college and
have problems finishing things at work or at college. The WHO says doctors
should treat patients for burnout. However, doctors and higher education
students are among the most highly stressed workers. They get burnout
twice more than other workers or students. The number of people with

39
burnout is increasing very quickly. More and more workers and higher
education students are getting stressed at work and at college.
An American psychologist identified burnout in 1974. Since then,
many studies have tried to explain it. Researchers said it is similar to
anxiety. It can come from depression. The Mayo Clinic website said burnout
can cause serious health problems, like insomnia, heart disease, high blood
pressure and diabetes. Mayo Clinic gives advice on how to manage burnout.
It suggests talking to your boss to change things at work; reaching out to co-
workers, family and friends; and relaxing activities like tai chi, meditation,
going for a walk in the countryside, and yoga.

Intonation in yes/ no and WH- questions

Yes/no questions--those are the ones whose answers can be a "yes" or

a "no"-- tend to end in a rising pitch pattern. This is opposite of the pattern
for wh- questions, whose pitch boundaries normally fall.
The change in pitch usually begins on the pitch word of the question,
and then continues through the end of the sentence. (Pitch words are also
often the final content word and the word of the sentence that receives the
most emphasis.

The following sentences are unmarked, meaning their intonation is
being used in the most neutral manner. No additional nuance or emotion is
added to the sentence.

READING

Which English Will We Speak?

A. Read the text below, and find the three main ideas of the text.
English is called an international language, but there are actually
quite a few varieties of English that exist around the world. English
originated in England, but soon English spread to other countries, and
different varieties of English began to exist. Today, the countries in which
English is spoken can be divided into three groups.
The first group is made of those countries where English is the
primary language. These are countries like England, Canada, the United
States, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. There are more than 380
million native1 speakers of English in these countries alone.
There is a second group of countries that have their own varieties of
English. Their histories have been directly influenced by one of the early
English-speaking societies. They use English in various important ways
within their own government and everyday life. India, Malaysia, the
Philippines, and Kenya are examples of this group. The total number of
speakers in this group is in the hundreds of millions.
In a third group of countries, English is widely used as a foreign
language. However, citizens use their native language within their own
government and in everyday life. Some countries in this group are China,
Russia, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Indonesia, and many Western European
countries. Some people calculate the number of speakers in this group to be
as many as one billion—and it is growing fast.
This changing situation raises many questions. Will another language
replace English as the international language? If not, will people continue to
use the English of countries such as England or the United States as
models? Will new varieties of English develop in countries such as China or
Brazil? Or, in the future, will a new international variety of English develop
that doesn’t belong to any one country, but to an entire area like Asia or
Europe?
(Source: NGL)

B. Answer the questions below. Discuss it with a partner.

1. Which group has the greatest number of English speakers?
2. The first group is also called as?
3. Do you think it is important for the world to have an international
language? Why, or why not?
4. Do you think another language will replace English as the
international language in the future? Why, or why not?
