COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces the basic principles and methods of biostatistics and epidemiology . Topics include basic concepts
and methods of descriptive and inferential statistics and their use in the design, analysis, and interpretation of
health data; and the application of statistics to epidemiology in the matter of rates, incidence and prevalence,
mortality and morbidity, measures of risk, and predictive values.

BEHAVIORAL E XPECTATIONS
 Attendance. Students are expected to attend all lectures and scheduled activities via online mediums such as
Istudy and Zoom/Microsoft Teams.
 Honesty. Every student is to work independently (no copying, no cheating) on all assessment activities such as
assignments, quizzes, tests, and exams. Likewise, he / she is responsible for protecting his/her work from
being copied.
 Types of Communication. Most of our communication takes place in the course forums visible to all. However,
when we have a need for communication that is private, whether personal, interpersonal, or professional, we
will use individual email or FB messenger account.

C OURSE REQUIREMENTS
 Class Participation. Students are expected to participate in online discussions. Pertinent comments that
reflect critical thinking is encouraged.
 Exercises/Assignments/Written Reports. To stimulate independent thinking and facilitate practice in solving
problems, an exercise is assigned for each topic. Exercises/ Assignments are posted on Istudy where it must be
completed and submitted on the specified due dates.
 Long Test. A long test will cover a chapter or several chapters. Long tests are posted on Istudy. Students are
expected to take all the long tests on the dates scheduled.
 Exams. There will be two major exams during the intersemester, the midterm exam and the final exam. Exams
are posted on Istudy.

M ISCELLANEOUS
 Creating Istudy and Microsoft Teams Account. Be aware that Istudy and Microsoft Teams are two
separate systems requiring separate accounts and logins. You do not need to create an Istudy
account since you obtain this when you are officially enrolled for the intersemester. Instructions on
how to create account in Microsoft Teams are sent in your email. If you have any problem with this
process, contact the AUP ICTS help line immediately. Make sure to create your Microsoft Teams
account during week 1, to avoid delays when instruction and assignment deadlines begin.
