b) An atom has 2K, 8L and 5M electrons. Write down electronic configuration of
the elements and indicate in it: i) Number of sub shells ii) Number of orbital iii)
Number of unpaired electrons iv) Number of p-electrons v) Number of electrons
with l=0. (5)

Q7. Detail the chemistry of electronic spectroscopy. Give the various types of
transition involved in this technique with one example in each case. (10)

Q7. Describe briefly the theory of NMR spectrum. What information can be
obtained from the NMR peaks? (10)

Q8. A gaseous fuel has the following composition by volume H2=20%, CH4=25%,
C2H6=16%, C2H4=15%, C2H4=10%, CO=2%, CO2=2%, O2=8% and N2=2%. Find
the air required for the perfect combustion of 1m3 of this gas. If 50% excess air is
used, find the volume analysis of the dry products of combustion. (10)

Q8.The percentage composition of the sample of coal by weight was found to be:
C=76%; H=5.2%; O=12.8%; N=2.7%; S=1.2% and remaining being ash. Calculate
the minimum a) weight and b) volume at NTP of air necessary for the complete
combustion of 1 Kg. of coal. Also calculate percentage composition of dry products
by weight if 50%excess air is used. (10)
