COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to give the student teacher an understanding of curriculum development,
implementation and evaluation in schools of nursing and midwifery programs. The philosophy, aims,
standards, specifications, selection of materials, organization of the program of studies, and
administrative aspects of curriculum development and management will be considered. Opportunity
will be provided for students to develop a unit of study encompassing all areas concerned, and based
upon that prescribed by the Pakistan Nursing Council's revised basic curricula in
nursing and midwifery.
COURSE OBJECTIVE
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Develop appropriate learning objectives relevant to each learning domain as applied to the
basic nursing and/or midwifery curricula
2. Plan for a supportive infrastructure to facilitate the curriculum process
3. Construct a curriculum, which demonstrates the accepted common characteristics of a sound
curriculum
4. Develop a lesson plan
5. Identify the philosophical premises that influence curriculum development and implementation
6. Construct a content map, course outline and class schedules
7. Plan and develop a classroom learning experience
8. Utilize principles of content organization within a curriculum and within a course
