What is your understanding of information literacy? An information-literate teacher? An information-

literate student? An information-literate country? Expound, explain, elucidate.

Information Literacy

is a set of abilities requiring individuals to 'recognize when information is needed and have the
ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.

Information-Literate Student

For me information literate student is one who can Recognize the need for information, Access
information efficiently and effectively, Evaluate information and its sources critically, Incorporate
selected information into one’s knowledge base, Use information effectively to accomplish a specific
purpose, understand the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information,Access
and use information ethically and legally.

Information-Literate Teacher

Locates and selects information based on its appropriateness to the specific information need and
the developmental needs of the student.

Are you an information-literate person? Explain why you regard yourself as an information-literate
person, or if not, how will you develop yourself to become one.

I consider myself as information literate being one is not merely about knowing how to use to share any
information but also knowing the responsibilities attached. Since we have these modern technologies,
we also have to be aware about the computer/ media ethics in which we consider how to use media
correctly and righteously. That must have to think several times before we share information through
the media.

 Why we should be concerned about information literacy

Information literacy is the important set of skills required to identify, retrieve, organize, and analyze
information. It is also something all students must learn. People with knowledge of information
literacy are prepared in any decision or task in life, they’ve learned how to learn, which makes them
do better in different situations.

By information literacy, students will understand that not all information is created equal. We
notice that the content on the Internet continually grows, but it doesn’t always come from credible
sources. Internet problem is that anyone can publish content for others to access, because of that we
can't determine which are credible, peer-reviewed sources, and which are not. It is helpful to
everyone, especially students, in order to succeed academically and in their future job opportunities.
Teachers and lecturers are greatly in need of information literacy skills, in order to carry out their
occupations efficiently and successfully. Basically, everybody in the society is in need of information
literacy skills. We should be concerned about information literacy because it can helps us to do well in
school, work, and personal matters because having this skill we can recognize the difference between
good information and bad information and evaluate situations from several perspectives. Everyone
needs to know how to find answers to their questions, no matter what they may be. People who
understand information literacy can solve almost any problem with precision and accuracy.

We can say that this skills is very helpful for a lifetime. We may notice we use Information literacy
in our day to day life such as buying a house, choosing a school, making an investment, voting for the
election, and many more. Information literacy skills are of prime importance in order to achieve every
bodys academic goals. Truly information literacy is needed by every single people.
