CHAPTER I

ABOUT AGENCY

1.1 Introduction of Agency

St. Mary’s School, Surkhet has been one of the reputed schools in the district of Surkhet.
Established in 2050 B.S., St. Mary’s has been providing quality education to the children of
Surkhet for more than 25 years since its establishment. St. Mary’s school with the motto
‘Education with Love and Care’ has been providing just that to the budding minds of
Surkhet. Surkhet lies in the Mid Western Development Region of Nepal, which is
comparatively backward when compared to the Central Development Region. Only now,
after federalism has been introduced in the country, the other development regions are
gaining pace. Surkhet is also one of the badly affected districts in the maoist insurgency and
because of that, many sectors of the district have been compromised. Education is also one
of the sectors that had been adversely affected due to the maoist insurgency with students
being unable to attend schools for long periods of time due to the civil war movement.
Hence the school was established with a motif of providing A Grade education in an English
Medium environment such that the students’ need to travel to other parts/regions of the
country in search for a better education service could be eliminated. Founder/Principal Mr.
Navraj Gurung along with Ms. Lorna Gibson (originally from Calcutta) hence, formally
opened the school in 2050 BS with a highly educated and well versed teaching staff
dedicated to take the student’s to a higher intellectual level and better learning with
facilities matching up to the standards of Kathmandu based education.
St. Mary’s School, Surkhet boasts state of art infrastructure with spacious environment and
well-equipped laboratories and ample space of re-creational activities for the students. The
school also has been providing regular teacher’s training programs relating to various
disciplines and modules and organizing various inter-house and inter-school activities. The
games and sports department have also been carefully designed to provide opportunities
for ample exercise for the budding mind and even opportunities for the students to show
their skills in a larger arena.
After recently celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the school, the management has shown
special attention to take the school to greater heights by incorporating modern technologies
and teaching methods with the traditional form of learning.

need to travel to Kathmandu for seeking quality education.

 To create products from a local level to bring them out in an international platform

with global standards.

 Reduce problems created by low education while at the same time minimizing

migration and brain drain locally.

Objectives

 To find deserving teachers in the local level.

 To conduct regular training programs for the school to remain updated about the

newest advancements in teaching and education.

 To create students with a strong character and personality who can grow up to be

good leaders.

 To provide a good schooling with likes to the standards of Kathmandu valley.

St. Mary’s School has been active in Surkhet providing quality education in a state of

art environment. Students from all over Surkhet and Mid-Western-Development-Region

have come to St. Mary’s in search of quality education. The school has also been providing

boarding/hostel facilities to students from various districts near and far.

1.5 Major Current and Past Activities

St. Mary’s School, Surkhet is one of the reputed schools within the district of Surkhet

providing quality education since its 25+ years of service. Since its establishment, the school

has been providing quality education by creating opportunities for the deserving teachers

from a local level. The school has also been providing English Medium Schooling to the

students form the beginning.

Currently, St. Mary’s School boasts a state of art infrastructure well equipped with all

kinds of modern teaching materials and laboratories which functional in a practical level. The

school has also been consistent in providing professional teachers’ training programs on a

regular basis so as to keep the school updated with modern teaching methods.

2.1 Geographical Coverage

St. Mary’s School is located at Tatapani, Birendranagar, Surkhet. It covers an area of

4.5 ropanees and is a minute distance from the Surkhet-Jumla highway/Latikoili Road hence

making the school easily accessible for all.

2.2 Target Group

The major target group of St. Mary’s School is the students of families with not

enough financial support and also all students in a local level looking for quality education

within a reasonable budget.

2.3 Rational of Action

From the very beginning St. Mary’s School, Surkhet has put tremendous effort on the

development of an epitome of quality teaching/learning.

SUGGESTION AND RECOMMENDATION

3.1 Suggestion and Recommendation

A school is a place where children from all sorts of background come together to a

single platform of learning. Hence, the trainee recommends any new trainee to be sensitive

and receptive to the student’s. It is also recommended to be a bit active and personally

involved as dealing with the students is not an easy job like dealing with adults. There can

be many points for consideration, which might be blocking the flow of communication.

Hence it is recommended to be vigilant about the progress and keep record of feedbacks.

St. Mary’s Co. Ed. School, Surkhet has been providing quality education to the students of
Surkhet since its establishment and has done a commendable job whose outcome can be
seen in the personality and character of the students. The school has taken full measures in
providing state of art services to the students regardless of budget and other difficulties,
which is a praiseworthy act. The trainee hence recommends the agency to keep up the good
work of providing quality education to the children and also suggest the agency to engage
the students in more co-curricular and vocational education to help them grow in an all
round learning environment.
