1. Teachers’ Roles (25 points)

Describe the roles of a teacher to wit:
1.1 as a person
A teacher is someone who instructs and motivates students in appropriate behavior.
They display personal qualities like empathy, compassion, patience, and respect for
their coworkers and students. Teachers must be able to communicate effectively,
maintain a cheerful attitude, and be tolerant of others.
1.2 as a professional
A teacher's duties as a professional include developing and executing lesson plans,
grading homework, assessing students' progress, and offering constructive criticism.
They should take advantage of opportunities for professional growth, stay current on
education-related research, and consider their teaching methods.
1.3 as a community leader and social advocate
Teachers are essential community leaders and social activists who work to advance
social justice and equity. In a warm and safe learning atmosphere, all children should
be able to feel appreciated and respected. To encourage students' intellectual growth
and self-improvement, teachers should work in partnership with families, local
authorities, and other educators.
1.4 as a model of character
As a role model, a teacher must conduct themselves with ethics, morals, and
character. Teachers should exert a constructive impact on their students in order to aid
in the formation of solid moral principles and a feeling of civic duty. By committing to
lifelong learning and personal development, educators can inspire students to value
intellectual curiosity and self-improvement.
1.5 as an expert
A teacher should be an expert in their field and have a broad understanding of how
to teach it. They should be able to provide effective and interesting educational
materials while also successfully guiding pupils through challenging concepts. Also,
educators must be able to correctly gauge the development of their pupils and modify
their instruction as necessary.

2. Challenges of Teaching (25 points)

Have some readings and provide a discussion on each of the following challenges of
teaching, namely:
2.1 multicultural classroom
one of the main reasons of why multicultural classroom become a challenge in
teaching because of students’ diversity. Learners are different in terms of language,
religion, ethnicity, belief, nationality, and culture. Teachers are challenged to use
pedagogical approaches that are culturally relevant and responsive. They are
encouraged to develop instructional materials and curriculum models that are culturally
inclusive. The cultural diversity in our country demands all teachers to be equipped and
empowered to address the needs of a culturally diverse classroom. It is important for
teachers to promote equity, fairness, and respect among students
2.2 learner centered teaching
A teacher should be an expert in their field and have a broad understanding of how
to teach it. They should be able to provide effective and interesting educational
materials while also successfully guiding pupils through challenging concepts. Learner-
centered teaching refers to the practice of reorienting teaching away from the educator
and toward the student by accurately assessing students' progress and making any
required modifications to teaching strategies. For teachers to be successful, their
students must be able to work together and proactively engage with the lesson. Also,
they must to be able to provide tailored assistance and independent guidance in order
to fulfill the various increasing needs of their students.
2.3 multi-grade classes
Multi-grade teaching is the process of instructing pupils of various ages and skills in
the same classroom. Teachers must be able to differentiate instruction in order to suit
the unique requirements of their pupils and guarantee that each one is interested and
challenged in their education. They must also be able to run their classroom efficiently
and provide tailored support to each student.
2.4 ICT integration
A common struggle of teachers attempting to integrate technology into their
classrooms is a lack of knowledge and understanding of how to use technology, or
discomfort with using it. Teachers who have these concerns also struggle with being
provided with professional development resources to help them gain the knowledge
and familiarity to introduce technology reliably and effectively. Another problem with
technology in the classroom is the cost of bringing new technology into your classroom.
Not all classroom budgets are able to sustain this addition. Lastly, increased access to
technology can leave students vulnerable to either intentionally or otherwise being

exposed to graphic content (including violent media and pornography), online

predators, scammers and hackers, and cyberbullying.
2.5 brain-based education
In brain-based education, research on how the brain learns has an impact on
teaching strategies. Teachers need to be aware of how the brain processes information
if they want to offer pupils opportunities for learning that are interesting to them. The
most recent studies will be tough for teachers to keep up with and incorporate into their
lesson plans.
2.6 multiple intelligence
The multiple intelligence theory holds that individuals differ in their strengths and
aptitudes in a wide range of domains, including language, logic, music, and
kinesthetics. Teachers must take these individual variances into account and make
accommodations in their teaching strategies and resources. It can be difficult for
teachers to differentiate instruction to meet the varying requirements of students.
2.7 children with special needs
Educating students with special needs can be challenging since teachers need to
be able to accommodate each student's unique demands. Teachers must be able to modify
their teaching strategies and resources to meet the needs of students with a range of skills,
learning preferences, and disabilities. To guarantee that their pupils have access to the
tools and assistance they need to achieve, they must also be able to work closely with
parents and other professionals. Using strategies like tailored instruction and inclusion will
help teachers get over these challenges.

3. Pillar of Education (25 points)

Explain the four pillars of education:
3.1 learning to know
This pillar refers to the acquisition of knowledge and understanding. It is the
foundation upon which all other pillars are built. Without this, it would be difficult for
individuals to engage in critical thinking or develop their own opinions on various issues.
3.2 learning to live together
This pillar promotes social cohesion and harmony within a society. It emphasizes
the importance of tolerance, respect, and understanding toward others. Only by working
together can we hope to achieve common goals.
3.3 learning to do
This pillar focuses on developing skills and abilities. It is important for individuals to
be able to put what they have learned into practice. This can only be done if they have
developed the necessary skillset.

3.4 learning to be
This pillar encourages individuals to reflect on their own values, beliefs, and identity.

4. Qualities of a Teacher (25 points)

The following are some of the qualities that a teacher must possess;

• Adaptability
Adaptability is a must for teachers, who need to continuously evaluate what’s
working for their students and even more importantly, what isn’t working. Being
adaptable and flexible allows you to flow between different theories of learning and
modes of teaching — something we’ll discuss momentarily without becoming
immobilized by stress or indecision.
• Empathy
Empathy is the ability to understand what another person is feeling or
experiencing put simply, putting yourself in another person’s shoes. As a teacher,
it’s vital to practice empathy instead of making assumptions for instance, making
efforts to understand and address the root issue that’s causing a student to fall
behind their peers, perform more poorly than they used to, or lash out in class.

• Patience
Patience is important both to possess and to model for your students — who,
as we discussed in our post on theories of learning, may view you as a role model
and emulate your behavior. Having a reserve of patience will make it easier for you
to work through each student’s unique struggles and challenges, which may be
difficult or slow-going to overcome.

• Engagement
Students are perceptive from an extremely young age and can easily tell
when teachers are bored by or apathetic toward their own material. If you want to
generate engagement and enthusiasm in your class, it’s imperative to exemplify
those traits yourself, showing your students an infectious passion for learning —
and all the exciting discoveries and hobbies that it can unlock for them!

• Active Listening
Active listening is vital if you want to effectively diagnose and help overcome
students’ unique obstacles and challenges. Seek feedback, encourage honesty,
provide ways for students to contact you easily, and be attentive whenever you

listen, always trying to read between the lines and assess body language while
you’re communicating. Learn more about how and why you should improve your
active listening skills.

• Lifelong Learning
The best educators aren’t just interested in teaching they also have a passion
for lifelong learning, which is reflected in their enthusiasm and engagement as
instructors. Continued learning and professional development deliver invaluable
insight, keeping professionals “sharp” and reminding teachers of the real-world
challenges that their students may be facing creating a pathway for greater
empathy. Discover more about the importance of lifelong learning and how different
theories of learning could help you teach or understand new information.

• Free of Bias
As an educator, you’ll be responsible for teaching an extraordinarily wide
range of students. To combat inequality and discrimination and ensure fairness, you
need to assess your students’ needs in a way that is free from bias something that
requires you to continuously check in with your own judgments and assumptions
about others.

• Respectful Attitude
Even in classrooms of adult learners, there’s still an inherent imbalance of
power that exists between students and teachers. It’s imperative for educators to be
mindful of this imbalance and ensure that students feel respected and heard for the
people they are and what they contribute to the classroom.

• Creativity
Creativity goes hand in hand with adaptability another key trait we explored
on this list. Whether you teach first graders or doctoral students, you’ll need the
ability to innovate, think outside the box, and find novel solutions to challenges,
which will empower you to meet a wider range of students’ needs. Being creative
as an educator will also help you to foster creativity in your students — an essential
skill they’ll need for countless career paths.
